2:17pm: Perez has accepted his assignment, president of baseball ops David Stearns tells Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel (Twitter link).
2:03pm: The Brewers announced Wednesday that infielder/outfielder Hernan Perez cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week. He’s been sent outright to Triple-A San Antonio, though he does have enough big league service time to reject that assignment and become a free agent.
Perez, 28, has struggled to a .235/.277/.383 line through 160 trips to the plate in 2019 — his worst production since landing with the Brewers back in 2015. While he’s never been any sort of on-base threat, Perez did hit a combined .262/.294/.411 with 36 homers and 58 steals in a part-time role from 2016-18 (1222 plate appearances), demonstrating an interesting blend of power and speed. Pair that with his defensive versatility — he’s played every position but catcher in Milwaukee — and the Brewers are likely quite pleased to have the opportunity to keep him in the organization.
The Brewers are currently utilizing Tyler Saladino as their backup infielder, although Saladino himself comes with an even spottier offensive track record, so it’s possible that Perez will get another look later in the season.

Sits comfortably on couch with legs tightly crossed.

You know the Brewers need to send Saladino down bring up Dubon . Then DFA Aguilar sign LoMo. Bring up Nottingham while sending down Pina too. Doing that would give the Brewers more pop along with versatility. Very surprised no one wanted Perez around the major league

Why do you give a long, drawn-out list of what you foolishly think the Brewers “need” to change? You post the same damn thing on every article about the Brewers.
kgreene3
Because what he said is exactly what needs to happen.

Dont like it then dont read it . I like to talk baseball with people and get others people view. Better then sitting here and ripping on others while trolling .

Stubby I agree. However, there’s a good reason why guys don’t get called up. The jump to the big leagues is much more than the transition from AA to AAA. The last thing we want to do is bring up a guy who just started getting his groove and kill his confidence. They always err on the side of caution
stubby66
Good point. So do we only need one bullpen arm say Smith or should also try and get Greene from Detroit. Plus do we finally let Erceg be traded and sign Moose to an extension. I also wonder if Cooper might be a good pick up?
Luckybrew
I agree with you and enjoy your opinion what you say makes perfect sense.

Everyone is in love with Aguilar for some reason. I dont get it. He has ONE good half for the Brewers last season and as soon as the book came out on him, he could not adjust. Its time to start making some changes. Pina, Aguilar, and Perez were essentially automatic outs. Need some more consistency from the bottom of the order. More baserunners for Yeli, Grandal, and Moose the better off we will be.

It’s what commenters usually do here…..

Love these ideas! Wish they get each of these transactions done ASAP!

Who’s LoMo?
CrewBrew
Stubby, i actually enjoy your posts quite a bit and appreciate your comments. They are usually insightful. I agree with this one as well. Salidino is Hernan Perez 2.0. Versatile but thats about it. Not a real threat at the plate. Dubon has been tearing it up. Also, Pina is about as automatic of an 0-4 as there is in the majors rn-although he barely gets any playing time. I say call up Nottingham and have him and Thames split time at first. Aguilar needs to go. Time to see some of these kids we have heard some time about. Waiting for Aguilar to return to form is killing our chances at making a big run. How many times has he come up with runners on and struck out or hit into a double play? Enough is enough.
stubby66
See I gotta agree with you too. I was thinking LoMo cause he is hitting good and wouldnt mind seeing what he could do in Miller Park. My only worry with sending Pina and bringing Nottingham is the defense we may loose. Gotta admit Thames is quietly turning it around. I hope Brewers give Devin Williams a chance after the break. I’m finally admitting we do have to trade for some controllable starters probably 2 at the least. I also wanna thank you guys for your talks
CrewBrew
We struck lightening with Miley and Chacin last year. Unfortunately, this is the real Chacin. Woody is coming into his own. Davies is solid, and I like Houser quite a bit. We need two for sure. Stroman would be a great fit, or Boyde from Detroit. Both of those are going to cost a bit since they have more team control than a guy like Bumgarner. I wouldnt want Bum anyways.
stubby66
Agree totally I hope we can get controllable starting pitchers not rentals How do you feel Grienke if Diamondbacks eat a bunch of money? Thoughts on Oslzack?
CrewBrew
It would have to be a significant amount for the Brewers to make a deal. I would love him back though. He loves Milwaukee and Miller Park so putting him in the middle of a pennant race would make him thrive imo.

I think getting Wheeler and Boyd would be helpful. That would give us a rotation of those two plus Woodruff, Davies and Anderson/Chacin. Then next year we can give Burnes/Nelson another shot when Wheeler is gone. Plus putting Hauser back in the pen would help. Something like Peralta, Erceg, Ray, and Bettinger for Boyd and Supak and Feliciano for Wheeler. Would really gut the system, but would be worth it to stabilize the rotation
stubby66
Wow I like that idea
CrewBrew
Yeah but getting those two would completely deplete the minor league system. Tigers already said Boyde is going to cost a ton since he has team control for a few seasons. Dont think we can get both Wheeler and Boyde
augold5
I agree it will cost a lot, but with the Tigers not looking to be contenders for at least 3 years, the FO might cave and sell high. Even if it costs Turang instead of Erceg. We would still have enough to get Wheeler.
ElMagoN9ne
Highly doubt Herman Perez will be back anytime soon
