4:04pm: Anderson could miss four to six weeks, according to general manager Rick Hahn (via Scott Merkin of MLB.com).
2:37pm: The White Sox announced that they’ve placed shortstop Tim Anderson on the injured list due to a right ankle sprain, recalled outfielder Daniel Palka from Triple-A Charlotte and selected the contract of left-hander Ross Detwiler from Charlotte. The team’s previously reported DFA of Yonder Alonso is now also official.
There’s still no official word on how long Anderson will be sidelined, though he was wearing a walking boot earlier this week when it became apparent that an IL stint was quite likely. The 26-year-old shortstop is in the midst of a his best season, having batted .317/.342/.491 with 11 homers and 15 steals in 281 plate appearances. The free-swinging Anderson is still loath to take a walk (2.5 percent) and has benefited from a .373 average on balls in play, but he’s also made dramatic improvements in his hard-hit rate and average exit velocity, per Statcast.
Detwiler, 33, will start tonight’s series opener against the Twins. The journeyman left-hander opened the season with the York Revolution of the independent Atlantic League but quickly landed with the White Sox and has thrown 43 innings of 3.89 ERA ball thus far in Triple-A (albeit with a 6.21 FIP and 4.75 xFIP). The longtime Nats hurler has bounced around the league since being cut loose by Washington — most recently appearing in one big league game for the Mariners in 2018. Detwiler has a career 4.36 ERA with 5.5 K/9, 3.3 BB/9 and a 46 percent ground-ball rate in 584 big league innings.

Hopefully the 18 inning game yesterday wiped the Twins out. Otherwise, this one will get ugly fast.

Especially with Detwiler starting. Apparently I was wrong when I said weeks back on here that the Detwiler signing was a meaningless transaction. It will be a meaningful transaction, though I’m sure for the wrong reason. I certainly wasn’t expecting him up this quickly.
I guess you have to throw somebody out there. It’s bad enough having one opener with a lackluster bullpen, I couldn’t handle 2 openers with this staff.

Hector Santiago was choice 2. A vacuum cleaner 3.

Higher draft choice for a team going nowhere.

It feels like Ross Detwiler has been making cameos in the big leagues since around 1985.
realgone2
Yeah. How the hell is he still playing?

Oh, man. This is it. The straw that finally broke the camel’s back. The White Sox were gonna make the playoffs before Anderson got injured. Now they stand no chance.

Your joking right? Playoffs for this organization isn’t even a reasonable expectation until, maybe 2024.
This mainly due to the cheapness and incompetence of their ownership. And this just gives them, more excuses for their gullible fan base to buy into.

@Dogbone
You crack me up LOL. You’re really taking trolling to a whole new level. If the Sox aren’t in the playoffs in ’20, they will be in ’21.
I’d ask why you think ’24 will be the year, but I don’t want to know. I take that back, I could use another good laugh.

I think alot of things need to go right for 2020 playoffs but moncada, timmy, eloy and gio are all looking like solid blocks to build off of. Still need some more of the young pitching to come up and see what they’ve got.
The weak division definitely helps. I think wild card in 2020 would be exceeding expectations. But not impossible.

Ross Detwiler? Was Collin Balester unavailable?
hallwagner1
Yes, he was busy playing golf with Jason Bergmann.

Too bad for TA, he was having a pretty nice season so far. Barring any setbacks, at least he will be back in August (hopefully early August). It’s not like there’s a need to rush him now, since the Sox are starting to fade, making their razor thin chances of making the WC even more microscopic. Realistically, the Sox are done, but mathematically they are still in it (for now).
Any word on Moncada? Looking at MLB.com, he wasn’t listed in the starting lineup, but I haven’t seen anything more on him. I’m assuming day-to-day.
At least we now know who pitches tonight for the Sox. I can’t wait until Cease is finally ready. We could use another jolt to excite us this season. TA, Moncada, & Giolito have been nice improvements, and Eloy’s had his moments, having Cease will further help us Sox fans get through the 2nd half. Robert and Madrigal probably won’t happen this season, but ’20 will be something to look forward to, especially with Kopech coming back. Hopefully Lopez can figure it out in the 2nd half. Despite his ugly numbers, I don’t think he’s that far off.

What interesting is that this essentially means Garcia will be SS for most of next month, and Cordell/Tilson will be in CF. Not sure how well that’s going to hold up defensively. And I I hope they don’t go with butchers row and try to put Palka out there with Eloy and Tilson.
