The Twins have placed outfielder Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list, per a club announcement. He is still recovering from a right wrist contusion that was suffered recently on a hit-by-pitch.
It had been hoped that the injury would not require a trip to the IL, but Buxton evidently needs a bit more time off. The placement is retroactive to June 15th, as he has not appeared since being struck. He’ll be eligible to return as soon as Tuesday the 25th.
While this seems unlikely to be more than a blip, it’s still unfortunate to see even a brief pause in the season for the 25-year-old Buxton. The long-hyped youngster has come into his own thus far in 2019, turning in a cumulative .266/.324/.527 slash with nine home runs and ten steals over 227 plate appearances.
Jake Cave will get another look at the majors in Buxton’s absence. He was demoted after a weak start to the season but has been on a tear at Triple-A (.321/.373/.552).
not LA TORTUGA?
La Tortuga can’t play CF.
How little you know, mi amigo.
La tortuga has proven that he is AAAA.
LOL, well, I might not know everything, but I know placing arguably the slowest runner in MLB in center field is a bad idea. I remember when Gardy put Chris Parmelee out there, and Parmelee looks like The Flash compared to Astudillo.
Willians actually has played CF in an MLB game. It was in Chicago at Wrigley. Kepler and Rosario got pulled because of heat. Logan Morrison in left field. Robbie Grossman in right field.
He’s definitely gonna be an all star this year, right?
Deserves it more than anybody else in the Twins OF, but isn’t going rn in voting and is now on the IL
Buxton has been the more valuable player, when he’s playing. Kepler and Buxton have almost the same overall value contributed this year.
Is the “Byron Buxton Porcelain Doll” giveaway coming soon to Target Field?
He was hit by a pitch.
Cave needs more than 49 AB’s.
He was good the year before!
he looks like he could be a nice 4th OF, or perhaps a minor trade chip at the deadline.
Gives them a chance to showcase Cave for any trade partners wanting ML ready talent in return.
Agreed, but I suspect the Twins will want to keep Cave as they don’t have much in the way of center field options right now after losing Granite and releasing English. It’s basically Buxton, Kepler and Cave.
Cave going 0-14 since his recall sure isn’t helping him as a “trade chip”——only making case he’s a AAAA player
As a Yankees fan I feel like Jake Cave might be the best player Cashman has traded away recently. Guy has a future as a solid OF in the majors.
Only competition I can see is Jorge Mateo if he translates to the bigs well.
Wish Cave all the best.
