Three White Sox hurlers are out for the season, per reports from Scott Merkin of MLB.com and James Fegan of The Athletic. Right-handers Ryan Burr and Jimmy Lambert have undergone Tommy John procedures, while fellow righty Zack Burdi has a ligament tear in his patella.
Burr’s the lone member of the trio who has pitched in the majors to this point. The 25-year-old debuted with the White Sox last season and has since registered a 5.52 ERA/5.60 FIP with 7.98 K/9, 4.3 BB/9 and a 43.7 percent groundball rate in 29 1/3 innings. Chicago placed him on the injured list May 28 with a right elbow capsule strain.
Lambert, 24, has posted a 4.55 ERA/4.68 FIP with 10.62 K/9 and 4.1 BB/9 in 11 starts and 59 1/3 frames at the Double-A level this season. MLB.com ranks Lambert, a fifth-round pick of the White Sox in 2016, as the team’s 18th-best prospect.
Burdi follows his brother, Pirates reliever Nick Burdi, in missing the rest of the season. Nick Burdi underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery earlier this week. Zack Burdi’s injury may not be that severe, but it still pushes back a potential major league promotion. The 24-year-old, whom the White Sox drafted 26th overall in 2016, has experienced his first Double-A action this season and logged a 6.41 ERA/6.11 FIP with 10.98 K/9 and 5.95 BB/9 in 19 2/3 innings. Burdi checks in at No. 15 on MLB.com’s list of White Sox prospects.
These injuries are a farce. They are pulling a Bill Belichek. They are all healthy and will each pitch this week. They just want to psych out their opponents so they don’t prepare to face them.
The White Sox were afraid that teams might prepare to face their 1st round draft pick from three years ago. It only took him three years to get to Double A and pitch to a devastating 6.41 ERA while he was there. If opposing teams think he is injured they will never be able to handle him when they discover he is not. What a good draft pick.
Are you trying to be the king of sarcasm?
And failing badly…
Does the White Sox ownership enjoy endless ineptitude and mediocrity?
@nmendoza7
Not sure how you can blame injuries on ineptitude. I’m sure you can find other things Sox ownership has done that you can blame on ineptitude, but injuries are out of ownership’s control (for the most part, anyway).
Three White Sox posts on this site in a row. I don’t think we’ve seen that in a very long time.
That’s because the White Sox are so good they are obviously gonna win it all this year. How stupid could Manny Machado be to not take a $125 million pay cut for the opportunity to sign with this team.
@SecsSeksSecks
$125 million pay cut? Um, your math’s just a little off. If the options wouldn’t have kicked in, it would’ve been $50MM. It’s still a significant amount, but a $75MM math error on your part.
Get over the Machado crap. He’s with the Padres and has a lower AVG than both Moncada and Anderson. Tack on the piss-poor attitude and lackluster hustle capabilities, and the Sox aren’t missing anything.

Watch it… the MLBTR writers have been stomping their feet mad that more teams didn’t spend hundreds of millions for him or Harper.
Kopeck is the only pitcher they really miss, that was counted on. This just gives them more ammo to tank.
They are an embarrassment to Chicago and all of baseball.
They are an embarrassment to all mankind, and artificial intelligence. Hell even mans best friend hates them. Though the feline community is split on their support.
A bit harsh!
Yeah, those contrarian Cats!
They are just rebuilding, that doesn’t make them an embarrassment.. those 1976 uniforms with the shorts make them an embarrassment.
And you’re an embarrassment to spelling: it’s Kopech.
If you can’t do that right, why should your comments have any validity?
Embarrassment to Chicago? How the hell can anyone or any pro team be an embarrassment to a city that is an embarrassment to this country, not to mention the Cubs that were nothing but mediocre for over 100 years!
Somebody needs to seriously reevaluate their training and conditioning programs this off-season
Boy, the good news just keeps coming, doesn’t it?
Now I’m wondering if I was premature in my post (on one of the other stories) about assuming Moncada is day-to-day.
Never miss an opportunity to troll, boys. Good work.
It’s a tough job, but I feel we’re up for the task.
Considering how the cubs have been playing (drek), we’re bound to see more of their sheeple trolls emerge as the season progresses.
They’ll be found on stories involving teams like the Cardinals and Brewers… teams that actually matter to a Cubs fan…
And still, you’re here?
but not trolling, so there goes your entire theory
A troll says what?
And don’t forget … “Triple-A right-hander Ian Hamilton will also miss the remainder of the season after being struck by a line drive a few weeks ago. He’ll need surgery to fix facial fractures and to repair his jaw. Hamilton, 24, was struggling in recording a 9.92 ERA in 16 relief appearances.” 670thescore.radio.com/injury-issues-piling-up-whit…
Yah, that one hurts a little. This was basically a lost year from the beginning for him. He was in a car wreck during the spring and never really had a chance to get going before this injury. Despite the lackluster numbers, he was posting some elite K/BB numbers when he wasn’t getting hit hard.
This is bad luck certainly, but there also has to be something off with conditioning, and how the team evaluates and prefers pitchers.
Not sure what changed, but they had a really good (probably lucky) stretch without many serious injuries before this current rough patch. It very well could be a stretch of bad luck, but it’s absolutely something that needs to be looked into.
It’s time. Someone must start producing a remake of Major League starring the Pale Hose.
