10:30pm: Cano indicated after the game this isn’t a serious ailment, saying (via Laura Albanese of Newsday): “[The injury is] not even close to what it was. I just have tightness. If it was the same feeling, I would have said it right away…They just wanted to be cautious.”
8:38pm: Mets second baseman Robinson Cano departed the team’s game against the Giants on Wednesday with a left quad problem, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News was among those to tweet. Cano suffered the injury while running down the first base line, as video from SNY shows.
This is especially noteworthy because Cano just returned from a left quad strain Wednesday. The 36-year-old went to the injured list May 23 with the issue, which ended up costing him 12 games. Before that, Cano – a much-hyped offseason acquisition for the Mets – got off to a slow start in his return to New York. The former Yankee and Mariner has slashed a career-worst .238/.384/.366 (76 wRC+) with three home runs in 183 plate appearances. That’s a far cry from the star-caliber production Cano has typically offered since his career began in 2006.
Another IL placement could now be in store for Cano, whom the Mets replaced with Adeiny Hechavarria on Wednesday. Excluding Cano, Hechavarria and Jeff McNeil are the only Mets who have started games at the keystone this season.

Classic Mets
Goku the Knowledgable One
Why’s it seem like they’re not aware of dudes ages this year?
2 big additions were Cano and Lowrie. Both are super old and injured AF
Ichiro51
SMH how quickly this guy fell off. Bummer
Melchez
It’s amazing what those “vitamins” do to improve a players production. Everyone expected this.
Joseph12992
What a disaster this trade could turn out to be, especially with Kelnic and Dunn playing so well.
o and by the way his obp is .287 not .384.
Ichiro51
How far are Kelnic and Dunn till they are majors ready?
Joseph12992
Kelnic is only 19, he is in high A already though and that aggressive promotion and his advanced plate approach put him on a fast track. Dunn is at AA and pitching well, he is close but the m’s are obviously in no rush.
lowtalker1
A ball? It’s cool to check out but you don’t really see what they got until they are in double a
Koamalu
Kelenic is in High A and is crushing it there so far. .348/.400/.652/1.052 in 6 games.
He hit .309/.394/.586/.981 with 11 HR in 50 games in the Sally League before being promoted.
jdgoat
I think this trade will eventually end up being Kelenic and Dunn for the prospects the Mets acquire for when they sell off Diaz.
kahnkobra
Cano and $20 mil werew traded for Swarzak and Bruce
Reimagined Mariners
That’s the comical part of the trade
n13gmlb
Well, Mets GM is the new Dave Stewart, will be fired, maybe not this year, but his days are numbered. Diaz doesn’t have the trade value this season to trade and get some of the losses back and Canó seems to be done for the season. Dang.
sufferforsnakes
Great off season move, Bro dude. Hahahaha, Mickey doesn’t stand a chance.
chippahawk
His muscles are confused/dehydrated after being infused with those peds.
I played through the same injury for a season and it never got better until season was over, not fun out of the box to first..

Go Mariners!

Question for baseball experts… on 6/5 Trumbull of the Tigers gave up a triple to Meadows and he scored on a throwing error and it was ruled a earned run. Another runner scored later on a throwing error and it was an earned run also. Why?
“Meadows tripled to deep right center, Meadows scored on throwing error by second baseman Castro.”
“Choi singled to center, García scored on error by center fielder Jones, Choi safe at second on error by center fielder Jones.”
In the 8th “Díaz grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop, Heredia scored on throwing error by second baseman Castro, Meadows out at second.” This was ruled an unearned run.
ExileInLA 2
Because Choi’s single would have driven in the run.
DanielDannyDano
Don’t worry, there’s plenty of time for Cano to redeem himself. There are how many years left on his contract?
mets1536
Mets Don’t Need Cano …. McNeil should be playing 2B Everyday; If CANO WANTS TO CONTRIBUTE he can go Help CESPEDES OUT ON HIS RANCH with LOWRIE & stay there for the remains 4 1/2 years of his contract.
64' Yanks
Say it ain’t so Robby Cano…how do you get hurt if you do not hustle? Oh for the days of Earl Weaver and Billy Martin!
bleedblueandorange
Unfortunately that’s the truth. That’s why Wally will never get the gig. Players now will cry to their agent if a manager chews them out.
youcannnnnputitontheboard
LOL
jvent
Leave Cano on the il, they don’t need him. What a disaster of a trade that was made for him and Diaz doesn’t look good here in the NL and he dominated the AL which doesn’t make sense when the say the AL is better offensively than the NL especially because of the DH. So what’s happening with Diaz, and now the Mets are probably stuck with Cano or maybe he should take ped’s again and get suspended lol.
DTD
Cano is another classic case of roids working and then when he stops, the numbers fall off and the body breaks down. What a moron
coastalcarolinachamps
I can’t believe he reaggravated it running down the 1st base line!
caryloyd
Without steroids he is below average.
