Here’s a look at the latest noteworthy draft signings, with the newest moves at the top of the post. - The Red Sox announced the signing of second-round pick Matthew Lugo on Tuesday. The high school shortstop from Puerto Rico will receive $1.1MM, a fair amount more than the $929,800 slot value accompanying the 69th pick, Jim Callis of MLB.com tweets. FanGraphs’ Kiley McDaniel and Eric Longenhagen ranked the 18-year-old Lugo as the 26th-best player available entering the draft, writing he has “50 or 55 tools across the board.”
- The Marlins have agreed to sign fifth-round right-hander Evan Fitterer to a deal worth far more than slot value, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. Fitterer will earn $1.5MM, even though his pick (No. 141) called for a bonus in the $390K range. Callis and Jonathan Mayo write that the 18-year-old high schooler from California “reminds some of a young Kyle Hendricks, perhaps with a bigger fastball, but with a similar feel to pitch.”

I don’t think I’ve read any news regarding Phillies signings yet. Weird.

They’re waiting for Mike Trout.
todd76
Trout is content never winning a World Series with the Angels.
redsfan48
They’ll be waiting 12 more years then.

I heard the Phillies first round pick’s agent is Scott Boras. When that A-hole is involved you know its going to be dragged out at the detriment of the kid that needs to prepare for the season. He might lose the season or come in to season and get injured or have to repeat it. These first 10 round guys agree to the money during the draft so its stupid that they don’t sign. Boras is probably holding out to get him his own seat on the bus LOL. The kid is stupid if he lets Boras run his career in the ground

You hate Boras because he’s good at his job?
mlbfan1900
lol.. Ask jason varitek if Boras is good at his job when he turned down 17 mil his last year (b/c Boras wanted Posada money) only to sign for 4 mil later. Ask last year’s 1st round pick, the SS committed to UCLA who initially agreed to sign for 2.6 million or so but end up not signing because Boras changed the terms with the team and demanded 3 mil. The kid (Matt McLain) played outfield this year and batted .203. He will likely never see that money again as a college player coming out. Boras cares about Boras and the money he can make. I care about the players getting in and developing with their teammates so they can advance and contribute to their big club

exactly this. he’s trying to be his own brand to the detriment of his clients, for the most part
