The Giants have placed outfielder Steven Duggar on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain and recalled fellow outfielder Alex Dickerson from Triple-A Sacramento, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports California was among those to report.
The rookie Duggar has been a regular this season in the Giants’ outfield, where he has split time between center and right. Duggar has combined for an impressive eight Defensive Runs Saved in those spots, though the 25-year-old’s offense has lagged behind. He has hit an ugly .234/.277/.343 (64 wRC+) with four home runs in 267 plate appearances, thus contributing to the generally terrible numbers the Giants’ outfield has put up in 2019.
Duggar’s injury means San Francisco will get its first look at Dickerson, whom it acquired from NL West rival San Diego on June 10. Dickerson enjoyed success as a rookie in 2016 with the Padres, hitting .257/.333/.445 (111 wRC+) with 10 HRs in 285 PA. However, back problems and Tommy John surgery completely kept him out of action from 2017-18.
Dickerson, 29, bounced back in a big way this season with the Padres’ Triple-A affiliate before the team dealt him, as he slashed .372/.469/.606 (168 wRC+) with five HRs in 113 trips to the plate. Although, since the Giants acquired him, Dickerson has collected just three hits (all singles) with their highest minors affiliate.

Terrible contracts for players who are on the downside of their careers (Crawford, Posey, etc.)
22jclark
Same comments no matter what Zaidi does. Dickerson and the slew of other outfielders they signed is all they can do besides drafting better, which I believe they did. The unmovable contracts and lack of production from the players with those contracts hamstrung Zaidi. He’s trying to find a guy or two who can stick in the of. He’ll get a few decent pieces when he trades some guys but this is going to take a few years. Blame Evans and the current, overpaid guys who aren’t getting it done. What else can he do? He’s trying, nobody feels sorry for them being that they have 3 titles in the last 10 years. Keep moving forward, keep foraging in the trash, something good is bound to turn up. Look at the dozen + teams perpetually rebuilding for years and years and be grateful that at least the Giants truly want to win. Division titles and league titles don’t mean squat. You either win the WS or your season was a failure. Giants going to have to deal with massive failure for a while but, they’ll be back
jorge78
Exactly!
Central Valley
Totally agree, great comment. I have no problem with Zaidi, he’s dumpster diving until the Giants find their Max Muncy type player. They are getting trash for production. Not one player with a respectable batting average, home runs, etc.
Bobby Evans should be fired again

And again, and again and again…. and once more for good measure. Good god, he put them in a bad spot. Ownership to blame as well, I’m sure they were pushing him to make those ridiculous moves. #hindsightis20/20

I completely agree. I don’t know what to think of Buster, but he looks lost. He shows no emotion. Vogt was a big reason why Beede got the win against the Dodgers this past week. Vogt was fist pumping, punching the web of his glove and emphatic about where he wanted the placement of the ball. Plus, Vogt is swinging a good bat. Meanwhile, Bochy continues to throw “Boring Buster” into the everyday lineup, SMH
rephaim
I would like to see Vogt catch Bumgarner. The reason, Bum is giving up a binge of home runs. I think Posey’s pitch selection and location have become very predictable. Vogt really mixed things up with Beede. Plus Vogt’s fiery demeanor matches Bumgarner’s.
As far as I’m concerned, Posey’s lifeless approach and his inability to drive in runs need to be addressed. Posey is now only a defensive catcher. He has no right batting third in any lineup. Sit Buster down, explain we can get Vogt for less money and Bart is waiting in the wings. Tell him straight, you can choose where you go. But, a young rebuilding team needs to be tempered by fire and will have to show emotion. Send Buster packing with a big thank you. Get a major league ready shortstop in return.
The demise of Posey is only exacerbated by the dementia-addled moron managing the club. If the diaper wearing fool had moved Posey to the 6th,7th,8th position in the lineup, Posey’s lack of production would hardly be noticeable. The Cardinals did it with Yadier Molina and extended his career gracefully. Bochy is so lost in the past that he fills out his lineup card like it is still 2014…
Posey for Crawford’s replacement. Time to move on. Bochy should be shut down today for mental health purposes. Then we might get a look at Gerber and Slater. Bochy has had a hard-on for Slater from the beginning. Which is funny because Bochy is a limp biscuit. Let Wotus take over until Ziadi can find his own manager.
So. Cal. Giants fan
Great post my friend. I watched the Giants/Dodger game on espn this past Monday night. Alex Rodriguez pointed out that Crawford seems to have lost his passion for the game. He opined it sometimes happens to players who have won multiple rings. He feels a change of scenery could do Crawford good as it can help bring back the drive and desire to win again. Although since then, Crawford has been knocking in some runs!!

4 Ever
For those of you who were on the Giants MLB chat pages last year, and several years before that, my moniker was Sabean Spawn. The references to Muttonchops should have been a dead giveaway. 4 Ever, please read all my comments before jumping to conclusions. These are hard times for our boys in Orange and Black and I prefer to point out the obvious, rather than rip fellow posters. However, I am known to have a rather acerbic tongue when it comes to the clueless. Be forewarned.,
Before the all-star break of 2016 Bochy could do no wrong., Cueto was masterful, Bumgarner was superb, the players brought up as replacements for the injured were playing out of their shorts. The camaraderie in the dugout was evident. Something happened at the all-star break of 2016, Since then Bochy has not had the answers. Maybe the baseball Gods decided to forsake him? But nothing he does now makes a difference. His two mainstays, Posey and Crawford have decided to imitate Matt Cain, who left whimpering and asking would he get his buy-out if he retired. Management was so happy to see him go, the check was in the mail immediately.
When a manager loses his mojo, it is worse than a player that just gets to old to play anymore. Bochy had about three very special years as a manager. However, the bulk of his resume is nothing special. In fact, I would venture that my dog Muttonchops could have won titles with Lincicum, Cain, a young Posey, a young Crawford. etc. The truth is that Sabean built the team and Sabean has always been recognized as the master architect. Once Sabean decided that he was burnt toast, this club fell apart. Larry Baer and Bobby Evans never were a Sabean. Zaidi probably isn’t even close.
DougieJones
Giants won 10 12 and 14 by pure dumb luck. they were no where close to the best team in any of those years. I wouldn’t be so quick to give credit to Sabean. I think Zaidi will do fine. Give it a year or two. He just found a nice piece in Dickerson.
rephaim
Dougie,
Check out Sabean on Wiki. Yes, he made some very controversial moves, but the Giants became relevant because Sabean made the right decisions far more often than not. They are not relevant now, largely because Sabean isn’t scouting anymore. Would love to see him at the college and high school parks again. But, like many of us, he had grown a little grey and long in the tooth. Maybe we can ask BALCO to work on cloning him when the time comes.?
Kingman#26
Stat of the Day, Dickerson MLB minimum pay $560,000?
Posey $21,500,000 Mil but three rings.
rephaim
We could get 40 minimum salary players for Buster’s contract. If you dredge the minor leagues long enough a nugget has to fall in your lap. Posey is a burnt out relic since 2014. It is good that at least some Giant fans are now acknowledging this. Give the guy a statue. Let him choose the team he wants to go to. Get his lifeless bat and attitude out of the clubhouse.
While the Giants are cleaning house do the same with Crawford. When you have been out of shape for three years, there is no way he recovers to his former self.
For those of you who want to cry over these type of moves, remember that both Marichal and Mays were moved at the end of their careers., Neither Crawford or Posey were/are the equivalent of the two Hall of Fame Giants. Marichal and Mays.
SFGiants74
Based on your selling points, who are they going to get? Who is going to replace them.
rephaim
Vince,
Vogt is a fiery clubhouse guy.n He calls a good game for the youngsters and he still drives in runs. Bart may jump to AA this year if he recovers from the broken hand. He was tearing up A ball before the injury. He can sit behind Vogt and catch every third game next year, At the mid-point switch the catching duties to two out of three games. Vogt is valuable off the bench and supplies more than enough power and back up. When is the last time that Posey had a meaningful hit in a game? When is the last time Posey carried the club for a week? He just doesn’t have it in him anymore.
I think Posey has some trade value to a veteran team that needs a catcher.
As for Crawford’s replacement???? Well, I would have to check the AAA clubs top to bottom. However, the Giants have a 17-year-old in rookie ball who will make us all forget Crawford but he is a good three years away. The Giants need someone now
rephaim
Time to move Pomeranz and replace him with Suarez or Rodriquez. It is sad what these vaunted pitching coaches have done to these two young promising prospects. Young did far more with far less in Oakland.
When Ziadi brought back Hollard and added Pomeranz, these two were to be depth pieces in the rotation. The club has already moved on from Holland who is a garbage time reliever. Time to move on from Pomeranz and clean them both out of the locker room.
Let Rodriquez and Suarez build upon last years growth. and see if they can regain their confidence that has been crushed by ignorant management decisions.
A staff of Anderson, Beede, Rodriquez, Suarez moving into 2020 makes far better sense that a staff of Samardzija, Pomeranz, Holland, and Bumgarner. If you need a veteran to lead the staff, you will have Cueto returning from TJ surgery. When Cueto went down, he was the real ACE of the staff anyway.
loach
Rodriguez has been terrible this year. Look for him to be sent down immediately after his bobblehead day.
rephaim
This is a typical reaction to the way that Bochy manages. Bochy would start Jake Peavy over any youngster if he had Peavy today. You mess with a kids head, especially a kid who doesn’t have blazing stuff, you crush their confidence. Bochy is the worst manager for Rodriquez or Suarez or Beede or Anderson. And Posey at catcher is Bochy’s clone. Why do you think we have to stomach Holland, Pomeranz, and Samardzija. Because that is what the guy who wears a diaper wants.
The true rebuild will come next year when the Giants get a manager who is pitcher centric. and these kids are going to have to battle back from being mismanaged by the guy with shat stained pants. Build Bochy his statue. Buy him a ticket to Cooperstown even though he isn’t a 500 manager. Just get him out of the dugout now.
loach
This is a typical reaction from someone who doesn’t go to games. Show up to a game and actually watch Rodriguez pitch and you will see he has trouble throwing strikes and gets hit hard when he does throw a strike. He looks lost out there. Blaming Bochy is asinine.
rephaim
Loach, He didn’t look lost last year. He needs work and he lost his rotation spot to Holland ERA 6.63 and Pomeranz ERA 7.09. I would say that might cause a little loss in confidence, especially since Rodriquez has an ERA of 4.96.
So you tell me, what is our Hall of Fame manager doing? Who gives you the best shot at winning. Rodriquez or Pomeranz or Holland. it is clear that Bochy prefers old washed up pitchers to young pitchers. Since 2014 the fans of this club have watched Bochy trot out his pet pony Matt Cain. Then he trotted out his pet bulldog Jake Peavy. Now we have to watch Holland who no one was going to sign this offseason and Pomeranz another waste of salary garbage time pitcher. I guess Bochy has decided three was enough and he should get the vets some more playing time at the expense of the kids.
I am so sick and tired of watching this complacent nursing home ballclub managed by a biased, doddering, no strategy, manager. “Move the line along”. This club can’t bunt. This club seldom advances a runner. I can’t tell you the last time I saw a hit and run. or hitting behind the runner. How many stolen bases do we have? How many sac flys.? But all we hear is “move the line along.” This club can’t score runs without high batting averages and we have no contact hitters.
I attended twenty-one games last year. I will attend twenty-something this year. I watch every single game on my computer that I don’t attend. Last year I sat right beside the Giants dugout. I watched Bochy nod off a half dozen times. I watched our all-star shortstop show up to spring training so far out of shape it took until mid-May for him to make contact. This year it is worse. I watched our hall of fame catcher limp to the batter’s box all;last year. Posey should not have been catching last year and as the losses piled up it took forever to get him out of the lineup. The guy has absolutely zero power and the reconstructed hip is not going to provide additional power.
:Loach, I guaranty, I watch as many Giant’s games as you do. What I see is a once-proud organization that has mortgaged their future for the benefit of an old tired manager and a couple of players who are past their prime. I don’t care if Rodriquez loses every single game he pitches and ends up with a 6.50 ERA. He is still better than Pomeranz. Period.
loach
Holland was demoted to the bullpen on the same day Rodriguez was sent to AAA. Rodriguez will not regain confidence getting shelled every 5th day in the majors and needs to be sent down to get sorted out. Last year he was good. not so much this year. In regard to the rest of your post, tldr
SFGiants74
Why not keep MadBum? Bring up Menez. Then you’ll have a rotation of Cueto, MadBum, Anderson, Beede and Menez.
rephaim
Simple answer to that. Trade Bumgarner for a major league ready shortstop. Go after Bumgarner when he becomes a free agent. Bum is going to get his, no matter what everyone thinks. Teams are paying 30 million for a front of rotation starter. So get a player that can help the team next year for his rental. If you think Bum has five good years left go get him for 150 million.
But Bum has maybe two / three good years left and onloy with a team that can score runs and back him up. This rebuild will take at least three years. Belt and Longoria will insure that.
Right now the Giants have one position player who will be there in 2022. That is Duggar and he needs to hit for a higher average. There is no one else.
Hopefully Heliot continues to climb. Hopefully Bart stays healthy. The Giants have a slew of latin American players in rookie and A ball.. And they are good.but 2-3-4 years away.

And Vince, Rodriquez and Suarez were better last year than Beede or Anderson this year. It is the manager. Wait and see. The Giants have maybe 7 starters in the minors who will blossom when the fossil retires

The object of a forum is to voice one’s opinion. I’m sure you realize that I don’t drink the Bochy Kool-ade. I am old enough to remember Bochy as the Padres’ skipper and how he refused to play young talent. I also remember the Padres destroying their minor league system to feed Bochy the veterans he needed to win. (Sound familiar?) For all the talk about how Bochy is a player’s coach, I have come to realize that Bruce is a veteran’s players coach. We all get old and we all forget things. Unfortunately, Bochy has forgotten the basic fundamentals of the game. Look at your own name Mr. Squeeze Box. and you will realize just how detached Uncle Bruce is. Hey what the hell as long as your name is Posey you get to bat third. There are dynasties in every sport. The Giants have the ownership group to compete with any team in baseball. The owners of this team should be sorely disappointed in what they are now receiving from the core. But man you go ahead and drink the kool-ade. I know this team is crap and I know that it will take at least three years to be competitive again. Blame it on who you like but the Giants will lose 90 games this year and probably 95 next year. At least we have some young and exciting talent playing once in a while. Just think what could happen if our infield found a Dickerson? Naw, Bochy wouldn’t let him play.
After 56 years as a fan, I got to see the Giants win a world series. Then I got to see them win two more. But after the all-star break of 2016, this team has looked the equivalent of the Baltimore Orioles. Anyone with an ounce of brains could see the collapse coming. Sabean ran and hid. Baer kept spouting the company line. Evans, not the sharpest tool in the shed., took the fall. But most of all the die-hard fans should bear the brunt of the blame. Hell, even last year fans were screaming we can be competitive. Get us Cutch. How did that work out? Be a realist. Voice your opinion without insulting other posters. Have a good day and remember to eat bran…Constipation cloud one’s memory, ask Bruce.

I’ve been more impressed with Yas and Dickerson then I have ever been with Duggar. Not sure what the plan is when Duggar comes back but Yas and Dickerson have competent bats and Pillar leads the team in HRs. Duggar is a typical player the Giants are always so high on for some reason: a plus defender with absolutely no bat. How about try something new and play guys that know how to hit a baseball?

Buster is tearing the cover off the ball. He has my vote for the all-star game.
DougieJones
batting buster 3rd in the lineup completely defeats the point of putting Dickerson at cleanup. Dickerson hasn’t seen a single player on base in any of his at bats tonight.
So. Cal. Giants fan
Does Boring Buster even have a hit since he’s come off the IL? Why does Bochy continue to throw him out there. They should send him to the minors to fix his issues because whatever they’re doing is obviously not working SMH
rephaim
These are bad times for Major League Baseball. Attendance is down. The Giants are off 6000 per game. Ownership listened to Baer, Sabean, and Evans. Now they are stuck with players that are shells. Old, lazy and no incentive to get better. The only way Posey and Crawford return to anything resembling their former selves is steroids. Is Balco still open for business?
Times are changing. Ownership is adopting a hard-line stance against free agency and the no-trade contracts. You want to trade Buster and Craw, just don’t play them. Send them to Sacramento and leave them there until they beg to get out.
A typical family of four can’t afford to go see a Giants game..Ownership knows this.. Nobody in baseball is worth $30 million dollars. If Trout was worth it, he would be like Kawhi Leonard and will his team to win.
Buster Posey is not a leader. Quiet guys lead by example. The example Posey is setting is that of a replacement player. The same with Crawford. Their contracts are just like Cain’s contract. Between Belt, Posey, and Crawford the Giants are on the hook for $53M per year. What do they get in return? A total of 1.0 wins against replacement players.
There is going to be a strike and the players are going to lose. No one in baseball is worth $30m per year. You would have to have a WAR of 20.
Burntchef
I’m sick and tired of seeing your awful negative uninformed posts “rephaim”. Why don’t you get a clue and relax, the Giants mismanaged the end of their dynasty and stuff got sticky. Big deal, Zaidi is doing a good job with the minors and we have a potential MI and OF of the future, oh and Bart. Stop bashing Posey. I played real baseball, did you?.
