The Diamondbacks have reached a minor league agreement with infielder Carlos Asuaje, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Asuaje’s now returning to a major league franchise after spending the first few months of the season in the Korea Baseball Organization. The Rangers released Asuaje last December, allowing him to sign with the KBO’s Lotte Giants, but the Korean club let the 27-year-old go on June 9. Asuaje hit .252/.356/.368 in 194 plate appearances with the Giants this season.
To this point, all of Asuaje’s major league action has come with the Padres. He debuted in San Diego in 2016 and then managed a .240/.312/.329 line (75 wRC+) with six home runs in 586 PA through last season. Asuaje picked up nearly all of his playing time at second base along the way.

Fast stint in Korea. Wonder what happened?
DarkSide830
he started off strong but faded really quicky for whatever reason. probably would have stuck around if Lotte didnt need his roster spot for the guy they just picked up from fresno.
jbigz12
Probably the .724 OPS in Korea. You can only have a couple foreigners on the squad and those kind of numbers don’t play.

It doesn’t help that he’s never had much home run power. That lack of home run power and a low babip killed his career in the KBO.
DarkSide830
i doubt he’ll ever be more then a AAAA player, but there’s worse depth options out there.

Geez, I thought this guy was one of those can’t miss Padres prospects?
jbigz12
Never even cracked 15th in their organization. Good try.
sufferforsnakes
Good try what? Was just asking, but thanks for your response…..not.
jbigz12
That comment reads sarcastic. Read it again and tell me it doesn’t. It’s not like it couldn’t have been easily checked yourself if you were genuinely curious…
sufferforsnakes
Read it again? Dude, I don’t have to. Did you forget that I wrote it?
jbigz12
This guy was never even close to being considered a top prospect and you said “ Geez I thought this guy was one of those can’t miss Padres prospects.” If you don’t see how that could be interpreted as a sarcastic dig I’m sorry. If you meant it as a legitimate question hey look that’s fine but it’s very easy to interpret that the other way. If you don’t see that you don’t see that but I’ll guarantee at least 2 other people thought that who upvoted my post. It sure sounded that way.
jbigz12
You threw in a “Geez” in front of all that. Really makes that sound like you’re not asking that as a legitimate question. And calling any prospect a “can’t miss” prospect is a joke let alone referring to Carlos Asuaje as one. Makes for a comment that can easily be taken the wrong way since you said that wasn’t your intent.
sufferforsnakes
Dude, stop and take a deep breath. Now exhale. Feel better?
Good, because you seem to be getting all worked up over nothing.
jbigz12
Just explaining it there Chief. I’m not worked up at all. Ya know since you seemed to be completely shocked that it sounded like that.
sufferforsnakes
Chief? Everyone knows that the Chief is no more.
Shocked? You need to stop assuming that you know how people feel. Just stick to yourself, ‘cause you failing elsewhere.

Fair question. Hey, some of have lives…..
jbigz12
I don’t have a problem if it was a legitimate question. (Though it takes just as much time to slap that up here as it does to google search the man.) It sounded like a sarcastic dig at the Padres. Considering they’re an organization who has been collecting top prospects for years and has had a couple busts(as will happen) it’s not hard to read it that way. This is the internet.

Just chiming in here to note it sounded like a sarcastic dig to me as well. Not trying to stir up trouble, just pointing out that the wording directly led to the line of discussion.

Can’t miss no. He was an add in for the kimbrel deal for the Red Sox. He had a great rookie year in triple a then nose dived.
sufferforsnakes
Okay. Thank you for clarifying that for me….civilly.
DarkSide830
i dont think anyone ever even thought he would be a starter in the long run
zippytms
This. A backup utility player always seemed like a reasonable ceiling. His arm and range limit him to 2B, albeit a pretty solid defender there, but if you can’t hit and you can’t play SS you won’t stick in the majors. Great guy though, hope he finds some magic and gets another shot at MLB some day.
martyjay75
My favorite part of him being a Padre was saying “Asuaje.” The novelty wore out fast as we learned he wasn’t very good.

Dudes a bum
zippytms
Dude’s a good guy who’s worked his butt off to have the career he’s had. He deserves a little more respect. It’s really really hard to make it to the show, and he got there. He’s no bum.
disqus_g3cAw8QJKq
Hope he streams more gaming sessions with MLB players like with Wil Myers. That is the most entertainment he has ever provided.
Sheep8
He does have a great twitter account! Made fun videos in Korea
jorge78
Maybe he should have spent more time studying his at bat videos!

Purple Rain! I wish him well, guess Guerra’s reclamation as a pitcher is the best we can get out of the two infielders we got in that deal. Margot’s swing needs retooled, not expecting much if anything from him these days.. Not sure who I rather see less- Margot or Myers in our lineup. With that said, Logan Allen-has produced more in the bigs this year than Kimbrel. That will change in short order but it’s fun to think about! As a Padres fan we typically learn how to think on the bright side because the alternative is rarely fun.. Go Padres! Wishing Prince well with the DBacks AAA.
