JUNE 18: Hendricks has a shoulder impingement, Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer told Jordan Bastian of MLB.com and other reporters Tuesday. “I feel like we got ahead of it,” Hoyer said. “We’re not sure how much time he’ll miss, but we’ll try to take it slow and take the length of the season into account.”
JUNE 15: The Cubs have placed righty Kyle Hendricks on 10-Day IL with right shoulder inflammation, per Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune. Righty Rowan Wick will come up from Triple-A Iowa to take his place.
Hendricks, 29, is outpacing his peripheral marks for the fifth time in six big league season thus far in 2019. The righty’s delivered 14 starts of 3.36 ERA ball with his typical microscopic walk rate, though his grounder percentage has dropped to an easily-career-worst 41.9%.
There’s no word yet on how long the command artist will remain sidelined, or who’ll replace him in the Cubs rotation. Tyler Chatwood, the only Cub apart from the opening five of Hendricks, Jon Lester, Cole Hamels, Yu Darvish, and Jose Quintana to get a start this season, would figure to be next in line, but he’s again been shaky in ’19 after signing a 3-year, $38MM deal prior to the 2018 campaign.

whoa
ChiSox_Fan
Afraid to face Giolito next week!
chitown311
Hahahahaha love it!
ncaachampillini
Yeah Hendricks a World Series Game 7 starter afraid to face the “yay we’re .500 for the first time in 5 years” White Sox. Okay.
ChiSox_Fan
Stupid comment.
Game 7 was years ago. What’s he done for you lately?
ElMagoN9ne
It was not even 3 years ago. he pitched a 83 pitch complete game shutout. White Sox haven’t had a complete game since mark buerhle
chitown311
K.
dewssox79
this is the dumbest post on here in a while.
ChiSox_Fan
2 this year by Giolito alone. Do your homework!
Priggs89
“White Sox haven’t had a complete game since mark buerhle”
Such a good effort. Maybe do a tiny bit of research next time though.
ElMagoN9ne
Cubs are not only sweeping all 4 games. They’re gonna light giolito up. 8ERs 5 home runs.
It the Cubs have trouble with the white Sox they’re in trouble
Kslaw
Oops…I hope you didn’t get your broom out.
Erik
I’m not gonna lie Giolito should all out win this game tomorrow. The type of year he’s having it would a devastating blow to him if he didn’t pitch the way he has been. Sox should by all means be 2-0 in this series
Priggs89
“Devastating blow” might be a bit of a stretch for one game… It’d suck, but I don’t think he’d lose sleep over it. Now if he strings together a couple bad performances in a row, then you might be onto something.
uncle1sock
You think Giolito will make it out of the 1st Inning!?
Cubbie75
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Erik
It’s over
chicagofan1978
Chatwood hasn’t been that bad, but this could be a great time for them to bring up Adbert Alzolay from the minors. Cubs have been on a rough patch lately. Playing a lot of hot teams regardless this is a bad time to lose arguably their best starter.
willyg60
Hadn’t been that good either
rondon
What? Up until the Dodger game he’s been killing it.
mattg3
The good news if any is if Chatwood does well he might be able to be unloaded at the trade deadline.
DarkSide830
id wonder if he’d improve with a return to Colorado.
dewssox79
omg
ASapsFables
Oy Vey!
Maybe White Sox GM Rick Hahn can talk his pal Theo into another trade for a SP by July 31st. He can have his pick from among Ivan Nova or Reynaldo Lopez for the Cubs two remaining top-100 prospects. Better yet, you can have both. Ouch!
petrie000
And which starting pitcher do the Cubs get in addition to that?
ASapsFables
Manny Banuelos AND Odrisamer Despaigne! That’s where GM Aaron draws the line. Don’t be greedy!
chitown311
Sox and Cubs. Two teams in Chicago headed in completely different directions
ChiSox_Fan
Yep! Sox moving UP.
Cubs moving toward the cellar.
Mikel Grady
Yes with cubs tv deal next year and legal sport betting at Wrigley where will cubs find the money ??
bitteroldman
The question isn’t revenue, it’s the luxury tax and its punitive effects. Theo has sunk considerable money into a couple of contracts that haven’t panned out in Chatwood and Heyward and painted himself into a corner.
desertbull
Sure, chubby
bucknerkingmansutter
Two typical blowhard Sox fans who don’t even go to Guaranteed Loser Stadium but they’ll always continue to show off their GED certificate on this Cubs board.
mike127
@buck——you really think they got that GED??? Come on. Imagine their horror tomorrow when they wake up and it’s Father’s Day. Mass confusion asking their mom to please tell them who their daddy is. There’s always hope that there’s a Cub story on MLBTR to keep them occupied for most of the day.
ChiSox_Fan
Both parents dead.
Karma is a bit$h. Good luck.
bigbluerulz
I’m just curious how the Cubs home games at guaranteed rate are going to go? Will the big blue wrecking crew hit 6 or 8 homers each game?
ChiSox_Fan
“Cub’s home games at Guaranteed Rate”?
If you knew anything about baseball, they would be “away” games.
Maybe your little sister can explain this to you.
brian_james
Hawk Harrelson hates Wrigley Field because he’s not used to stadiums that aren’t quarter capacity
bigbluerulz
Do you realize how stupid that comment is or has your envy blinded you.
Fred K. Burke
Like I predicted at the start of the season and drew heavy criticism. I’ll need to say it again and once again take criticism. A third place finish for the Cubs this year. Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs. Kimbrel will likely help solidify the back end of the pen-They hope. But as mentioned earlier the starters are and will likely continue to wear down due to age and /or in Yu Darvish’s case-injuries A shoulder injury to Hendricks should be a major concern as I’m sure the front office is. The offense once again goes cold for for a week at a time. Little to offer sellers with the lack of high end minor league talent to make an impact deal at the trade dead line. The highest trade chip Nico Hoerner is injured once again. That leaves Miguel Amaya as the only other higher end prospect.
chicagofan1978
Just because our team is getting hot finally let’s not get a big head like Milwaukee it Cleveland fans
johnrealtime
It’s ok guys, we understand you lash out because you feel feelings of inferiority. Its all right that your team isn’t the most popular in the city. Tell us what really upsets you. Does it hurt that cub fans don’t bother trolling posts pertaining to white sox players?
Priggs89
“Does it hurt that cub fans don’t bother trolling posts pertaining to white sox players?”
Not even close to accurate.
petrie000
That’s not physically possible, since the ‘nowhere’ the Sox are headed isn’t actually a direction…
ChiSoxCity
Meh… cubs are toast anyway. Even if they were to somehow slip into a wildcard slot, that starting rotation would get smoked. Enjoy the run, Brewer fans. The Central should be yours for a long time.
Ry.the.Stunner
“That” starting rotation is 3rd in the NL and 2nd among teams that will actually make the playoffs.
Giolito can’t pitch 5 times through the rotation. The White Sox’s glorious #27th ranked starting rotation won’t even sniff anything over 4th place.
Priggs89
I’d love to know who you think will pass them for 3rd place.
bigbluerulz
Congrats your finally back to being mediocre. Enjoy that state, it that’s your destiny for the next 3 years before the worst front office in the mlb convinces the lamest fan base in baseball it’s time for another rebuild. It’s well know and proven no big name free agents want to play for Jerry. Accept reality and crawl back into your hole to save yourself from the ridicule you so rightfully deserve when the reigning Chicago champs win another title this year.
Priggs89
Kenny Williams has as many rings as Theo does with the Cubs. Congrats on your self-proclaimed dynasty.
petrie000
You predicted it, so odds are the Cubs are about to go on a 12 game win streak according to past trends…
ChiSoxCity
It really doesn’t matter what the cubs do at this point. They can’t beat a quality team in a wildcard game or playoff series. That’s the salient point here. All the regular season wins and stats won’t translate when the cubs face quality teams in a playoff series. It’s going to look like a home run derby in a best of five. Playing from behind doesn’t suit this lineup, either. They’re just not that good as constructed anymore.
petrie000
your ‘salient point’ is actually an unfounded prediction of future events by an observer with an admitted bias and no history of knowing jack about the subject at hand
which kind of makes it less of a ‘salient point’ and more worthless gibberish… but i’m sure using a big word you didn’t know the definition of made you feel smart.
you can let the adults talk baseball now
dewssox79
This. They play great at home, they cant be consistent against good teams and they live and die with the HR. Lester is aging, Quintana is now just a 3/4 in a good rotation, even with kimbrel their BP blows.
rondon
petrie000 The only “point” he ever has is the one on top of his head.
Pickle_Britches
What’s wrong with the rotation there skin Flint?
walterfranciswhite
All the usual suspects. Degenerate losers with nothing better to do than troll and show how pathetic they are
chicagofan1978
As a Sox fan I apologize for them but to be fair there is a few cub fans who troll Sox posts too.
ChiSoxCity
Sycophant. cubs fans are thumb suckers. You thinking kissing hiney will get you respect? Grow a spine.
chicagofan1978
I don’t need respect from people on a chat forum, bud. The cubs /Sox argument is dumb and has been for years. 2 teams in a huge market like Chicago with 2 championships in a 100 years fighting over who is better is laughable. Both organizations equally suck. New York, California and Boston fans laugh at us. My alliance is to the Sox but I’m not gonna play baby games and talk trash about a team that is not in our division. This week i’ll root against the Cubs. After that they are just another team in baseball that I follow
ChiSoxCity
See, hear’s the thing “bud”. Nobody’s talking trash about the cubs. If you’re not talking rainbows and skittles, the smurfs get offended. They can’t talk baseball, so they make it personal in a hot minute. You coming here to apologize for Sox fans who just want to talk baseball about the cubs just makes you look like a punk. You’re appeasement to the people won’t make them say nice things about the White Sox or White Sox fans. They’re too small, ignorant and petty for that.
chicagofan1978
Cool thanks
dewssox79
^^^ pretty well said. 2 teams and 2 championships in 108 years is nothing to brag about. the marlins alone have the same amount and that is one team that was an expansion team. both sides of town should be embarrased.
ChiSoxCity
Not as pathetic as your bullpen. Better worry more about Javy looking like his old self, and less about what the world thinks of your favorite baseball team.
Kayrall
They can’t contribute anything so they do this.
em650r
Dodgers wore this guy out.
Speedy recovery
some guy 2
Adbert time
Erik
I prefer just to call him Albert. It’s easier to say. It’s Albert Time!!
ChiSox_Fan
“Fat Adbert”
Cosby would be proud.
Hey! Hey! Hey!
WillAlexander234
You guys go ahead and call up your pitching “prospect: Adbert, Albert or whatever. Luis Robert was MVP of Southern League All-Star Game last night. Dylan Cease and Andrew Vaughn. Zack Collins – Welcome To The Show!
dewssox79
being excited for a guy just squeezed into the top 100 isnt really something to be excited about
ChiSox_Fan
Sox’ Robert #5/100!!
Yay. Can’t wait for him to be called up.
Cease, too.
Break up the Sox!
biffpocoroba
The Cubs are one of the few teams not on Jeff Smardzija’s no trade list. And Zaidi would likely pay that contract down a lot. For an innings-eater.
Just sayin’.
dewssox79
the issue is hendricks out and lester being bad, Q just ok, and darvish needing more than one good start to prove himself. Ya gotta go bigger than shark.
dewssox79
anytime there is a shoulder issue i cringe
ChiSox_Fan
Shoulder “Impingement” 3-6 months to heal completely.
ChiSoxCity
Sox Win!
jorge78
Maybe his peripherals should be adjusted?
themed
This is just the beginning of disaster for that cub rotation. Do you really think Hammels and Lester are not going to miss any starts? And that closer they overpaid for will be this years version of Greg Holland.
