The Blue Jays will select the contract of righty Jordan Romano, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca. It’s not yet clear how the team will create the necessary roster space, which includes a 40-man spot.
Romano, 26, is a 2014 tenth-rounder who hasn’t yet cracked the majors. That’s not to say he wasn’t on the MLB radar. The Canadian hurler was selected in the Rule 5 draft last winter, with the Rangers (who had acquired his rights from the White Sox) ultimately deciding to send him back to Toronto.
Through 31 frames at Triple-A this year, Romano carries only a 6.10 ERA. But most of the damage came during his early work as a starter and in one abysmal performance in mid-May. More importantly, Romano has trended up in the strikeout department, posting 12.5 K/9 against 3.8 BB/9 on the year.

Aside from 1 bad outing he’s pitched well in the bullpen. Hometown boy. Considering the Jays haven’t been high on Romano, I hope he performs so well they have to keep him in the bigs.

Agreed. Let’s go Jordan, sink or swim brother !

“Through 31 frames at Triple-A this year, Romano carries only a 6.10 ERA.” You trolling?

It’s just the facts. Then Jeff explains why it’s not so bad overall…..

Please God let it lead to a Edwin Jackson DFA

I hope but I find it unlikely since he’s starting tonight so you’d think they’d make that move tomorrow. Who knows, maybe it’ll be Romano’s first start tonight though…

Derek Law is starting tonight. Jackson remains with the club though.

Jackson could not strike out my grandmother, who can’t hit than well. Move him on!

12..5k/ 9 is promising!

He is a quintessential bullpen arm. Very good fastball and slider combo but little else. The Jays gave him every chance to be a starter but that’s just not his path. Can be a very effective bullpen arm though and has shown that since the Jays got him back and moved him to the pen in AAA
Costandreward
he has a combines 3.52 ERA in the minors. I don;t think thats a bad starter whatsoever.

The change in baseballs helped kill young arms in AAA this year.
As for Romano, he’s got a good fastball, good power slider. Needs to either have a secondary slider thrown at 80-81 instead of 87-88 or a change up. His stuff would absolutely work out of the bullpen. Been wanting the Jays to give more young guys within the system an opportunity and glad Romano’s going to pitch.
Jays would rather give stiffs like Shawn Morimando (Cleveland guy) than Travis Bergen (now in SF). If it’s not “their” guy, “there” is little chance.

Ken Giles apparently going on the IL with elbow inflammation.

Nice to see Romano given a chance and he has done well so far. Everyone is talking about Charlie Montoyo and his talent at working with young players.
Montoyo did something in the Sunday game with the Astro’s that was terrible. Trent Thornton is pitching a gem and the Jays are leading 11-0 in the bottom of the 7th. Thorton has two out and a runner on 1st and 2nd. Montoyo comes out an pulls Thornton. Thornton is a rookie he didn’t want to come out like that, the game was in hand even if he gave up a home run, he should have been allowed to pitch his way put of it and walk off the field with his team, but as a rookie he had to bite the bullet.
Charlie aren’t you lucky it wasn’t a verteran like Jack Morris, but then you won’t have had the nerve to crush a kid ego even a little bit.
Thornton looks like he might be a keeper but you build him up not tear him down.

I agree. When you can give the bullpen a rest you do it. Every single time.
