The Pirates announced a series of roster moves this evening. Starter Trevor Williams is going on the 10-day injured list with a right side strain, creating a need for pitching reinforcements.
Righty Clay Holmes was recalled. He’ll join Geoff Hartlieb in ascending to the active roster. With a need for one additional active roster spot and one additional 40-man spot, the Bucs optioned righty Richard Rodriguez and outrighted catcher Jacob Stallings (who had been on the IL with a neck injury).
There’s no clear indication yet as to the timeline for Williams. It’s unfortunate timing for both player and team; he was off to a strong start after an excellent 2018 campaign. Through 54 innings this year, Williams carries a 3.33 ERA with 7.0 K/9 and 1.7 BB/9.

So glad to see Rodriguez go down. He’s cost the Bucs at least 4 games with him giving up late game bombs.

I think we’ll be seeing more of DuRapau in the near future, which so far hasn’t been a bad thing.

How did they release Stallings if he is on IL. Think he will be a late bloomer and would be an Interesting pick up.
Kang Ho Polanco
They didn’t release him, just demoted him. Probably took him off IL to do it.

Eric Kratz 2.0?

Stallings was on the IL with a mysterious neck injury and they must have put him on waivers last week because they have evidently been able to take him off the 40 man roster and send him to Indianapolis.
I know that they did not want to lose him but there must have been no interest in him which surprised me as he is hitting better than either Cervelli or Diaz.It seems to me to be a very low key affair.
I am glad that they wised up on Rodriguez as he has single handedly lost four games for them.
I do not recall this many injuries for the Pirates ever.
It is a shame because I think that they actually had a chance this year but these small market clubs cannot withstand this many injuries and compete.

Who would have thunk it? Jordan Lyles is our most reliable & most consistent starter. Everyone thought it was Taillon but he’s gone 2 months at least & wasn’t dominating. I thought it was Williams, he’s been reliable so far but not exactly consistent. Musgrove looked great early, then recently had 2 horrendous starts that took his era from 1.80 to 4.0, then he had a good last outing in Arizona; so inconsistent. Archer has been hurt & inconsistent. Holmes, Kingham & especially Brault are both unreliable & inconsistent; whereas Brault could be consistently terrible.

NH suspected as much on Lyles so give him credit.I understood why they traded Nova, who in some ways was their most consistent starter, but they should have replaced him with a depth piece, and not Brault. They could have used Nova or his replacement with all of these injuries.Gio Gonzalez would have been fine.
I think that Williams and Musgrove have been consistently good except for one or two outings.Give credit where it is due.Unfortunately,Taillon my not be the stud that they hoped but he still has time.Archer is the enigma as he needs to be at least a strong #2 for that trade to have any chance.
I think that the three young pitchers that you mentioned are consistent- consistently bad.

Just shows the fact that the pirates are cheap asses once again. They should have picked up a quality starter and a short stop.
Prospectnvstr
They ALREADY have their shortstop of the present & future in house. His name is Cole Tucker.
Mendoza Line 215
Not for this year. His hitting will not cut it in the ML.He needs at least another year at AAA so that he has a viable chance to make it in the ML.
They should have signed Iglesias.
Meanwhile Newman deserves to play as he has been hitting very well.
I think that they should bring up Kramer and send Tucker down as Kramer has been hitting extremely well after a slow start.
