The Pirates have halted the rehab assignment of righty Keone Kela, the club informed reporters including Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic (Twitter link). He has been sidelined since early May with a shoulder issue that hasn’t yet fully dissipated.
Kela made one appearance at Triple-A on May 25th, at which time it seemed he was not far from a return to the majors. But he obviously did not bounce back and progress as hoped. There’s still no reason to believe that Kela is dealing with a major injury. His handling to this point suggests that’s not really a concern.
The team says recurrent discomfort has led to the decision to pull Kela from the assignment. He’ll be shut down for about ten days before any further steps are decided upon. What will happen at that point — reexamination, resumption of throwing, etc. — isn’t really clear.
It seems safe to presume that the Bucs will go without Kela for a decent while longer, even if he does show fairly quick improvement and is ready to begin ramping back up after ten days. He’s a reliever, which limits the need to build up innings, but the club will want to avoid any further setbacks by moving too rapidly. Once he does resume his rehab assignment, Kela will have thirty days to complete it.
Kela’s absence stings with the Pirates trying to weather a rough stretch for the rotation. The 26-year-old was not off to the best start to the present season, with a 4.63 ERA in 11 2/3 innings. His swinging-strike rate is down quite a bit and he had already allowed three long balls. Still, that’s a short sample and Kela is coming off of a very strong 2018 campaign.
Brittingham
Baseball insiders (similar to Buster Olney) have been expecting this for years. Kela has been spending too much “free time” with fellow teammate Chris Archer. Everyone in the clubhouse knows about his mental obsession with Archer. It has caused Archers career to falter ever since they came in contact with each other. Archers problems are caused by the mental strain Kela puts on him with unwanted HJ’s in the clubhouse shower room. He put up with it because he is a team player and doesn’t want to cause drama or divisiveness in the clubhouse. Kela, however is unrelenting. Recently he has been so aggressive that he couldn’t control himself. He doesn’t even bother using his wrist or elbow anymore. It is all continuous repetitive shoulder movement. That is why Kela got injured in the first place and his lack of self control is what got him to this point. It is a sad day in baseball when a Major League player has to be shut down on a minor league rehab assignment for a behavioral addiction. Let’s pray Kela gets his desires under control and let’s hope Chris Archer has not suffered any form of PTSD that would prohibit him from coming back to the form he was in prior to his teammateship with Kela.

You’re not funny at all
Brittingham
It’s purely satire nmendoza. I never want to offend anyone. I do think some people might find it humorous. If it’s not your cup of tea, I get it. It’s not for everyone.
walterfranciswhite
Britt, sounds like you’re the one that needs serious psychological help
Black_Pearl
It’s not satire. It’s stupid. I’m surprised the site has let it stay on this long. Grow up!
Brittingham
It is satire. It is the exact definition of satire. Satire can be (and often is) stupid. If you ever met me, I promise you would find that I am the least judgemental person you have ever met. Is it because the responders find it a sensitive subject? I never said anything judgemental about any lifestyle and I never will. I am in no place to judge anyone. I am sure I can do a better job of being more politically correct. That would make sure no one ever gets offended. It would also make sure no one ever finds it humorous. I don’t tell anyone to be judgemental because they shouldn’t. I never say anything to provoke the negative teatment of anyone. I was merely trying to make a post some might consider humorous do distract people from insulting each other in VERY negative ways over opinions on baseball trades. If you ever saw me in person, within 10 seconds you would realize what I posted was not meant to be offensive. I am not a person that hates or shames anyone. I can’t. I never put bad language or provoke poor behavior towards anyone. Like I said: If you read my comment while you were meeting me, it would take you less than 10 seconds to realize I have no reason or intent to offend anyone or any group of people. I am truly sorry if I offended you.

If you have to explain a joke to this many people, consider the possibility it wasn’t funny at all.
Save your fake apologies, and try listening.
Brittingham
I didn’t even remotely try to explain the joke. I see many jokes that are ridiculously unfunny on this site. It is routinely proven by the fact that everyone ignores them. If it “wasn’t funny at all” than why is anyone even bothering to reply to me?

You might want to look up the definition of satire. This homophobic piece of dreck does not meet the definition of satire, or humor, class or wit for that matter.
Brittingham
You might want to look up the definition of homophobic. That is a strong word to throw around about someone you know exactly zero about. I never said anything negative about any lifestyle or sexual preference at all. How do you know that I have not been in a same sex marriage for over 11-years with someone who traveled overseas with me for the sole purpose of adopting three orphaned children all of whom we raised along with my spouse’s mixed race niece? I bet you would feel pretty stupid if I posted a video proving that. Oh man… I just mentioned my mixed race niece. I guess that means your about to call me racist. Actually, by stating the fact that she is my niece, I told everyone that she was female. I guess that means your going to call me sexist. Like I said before: You know nothing about me. There is nothing disparaging nor phobic about anyone or any sexual preference in my post. If you see it that way it says a whole lot more about you than it does me. If the mere topic of homosexuality gets you upset to the point that you have to unjustifiably call people names then it is you that is homophobic. You don’t like something you hear but you are too inept to have an intelligent conversation about it… Or even read the many replies I posted afterwards, so you start calling people names. You are ignorantly judgemental, retire. You are judgemental and you are a coward.
SuperSinker
Have you considered the possibility that you’re wrong and that the avalanche of people telling you that you’re wrong might be an indicator?
Brittingham
Wrong about what? The belief that homosexuality is not offensive and anyone that finds it so is homophobic themselves? I have not considered that once. I never apologized for anything I said. I apologized if it made someone feel something they didn’t like because that was not my intent. I can’t help it if someone is a snowflake that gets their feelings hurt because they find a topic controversial. My 4 year old daughter gets her feelings hurt when I tell her it’s bed time every night. I wish she didn’t feel that way because I care about her and don’t like to see her upset. I certainly never think it is wrong to put her to bed on time because she feels that way though.
SuperSinker
I know you haven’t apologized for anything you’ve said. That’s what someone who listens to other people would do. You using homosexual tropes as ‘satire’ demeans every homosexual person, and reduces their identity to a punchline.
If your intent was to be funny, you failed miserably. If your intent was to be crude and cruel towards an already
SuperSinker
… marginalized group of people, you’ve done very well for yourself.
Brittingham
Every single person on this planet belongs to a group that has at some point been marginalized. Africans were forced into slavery. Women weren’t allowed to vote and were treated like property. Gay people weren’t allowed to be with the person they loved openly without the risk of getting executed. Native Americans were slaughtered by the thousands and forced out of their Homeland. Jews were executed by the millions during the Holocaust. Christians were fed to Lions while they were still alive. The list goes on and on and on. Are we supposed to never make jokes that involve anyone that may belong to any of those groups of people. That sounds like a terrible life. Nothing could ever be funny because someone might find it offensive if a marginalized group of people might be referenced in the joke. I’m not a big political guy but all this PC nonsense is a big reason why the least PC person ever is in the White House. People are tired of it. Is everyone supposed to live their lives assuming each person they see thinks like a sociology professor from a community college? I never made homosexuals or any specific group of people the punchline. Keone Kela and Chris Archer were the punchline. What is wrong with acknowledging homosexuality? Anyone who thinks that has a problem with homosexuality themselves while also marginalizing them by cringing any time someone brings it up. It exists. Even Alexander the Great was an open homosexual. People need to get over it.
SuperSinker
Being homosexual is fine. Using homosexuality as the punchline for a sorry attempt at ‘satire’ is not fine. Reducing someone’s sexual orientation to a terrible punchline is not fine. The fact that you cannot grasp this does not make your ‘joke’ any more funny.
IloveMACfootball
What the hell is wrong with you?
Brittingham
If you get a chance, please look at the last response I made to the person that made a reply. Like I said to the replier, I truly meant no offense to anyone. The subject might have been insensitive. I don’t think there was any statement I made that was critical or judgemental of any group of people. Like I stated before, it was obvious untrue satire.
Mendoza Line 215
With all due respect Britt,it may be satire to you,but it does not seem like it to anyone else.
This venue is for posting about baseball items and not imagined satire,
I do not doubt that you did not mean to offend anyone.
It was certainly a posting, however, that in my opinion did not really make sense and really served no purpose.
I think that you can do better than that.
Brittingham
Fair enough. I am nowhere near the only person that posts satirical jokes in the comments section on this site. Almost all of those posts get completely ignored. Why do people that find my posts unfunny feel the need to express it while ignoring every other unfunny post? I feel like I am striking some kind of ridiculously sensitive nerve or something. If someone is offended by something I post, I wish they would have the conviction to say so and the accountability to specifically point out which words were particularly offensive and why, without making some cowardice cop-out by stating something like,”the whole thing is offensive.” Anyone that says that is basically projecting their own prejudices on everyone else.
SuperSinker
You keep trying to become a victim and it’s boring and unoriginal.
sergefunction
The wittiest satire and funniest jokes are those needing repeated explanations.
Brittingham
You are good people.
SuperSinker
I don’t think you understood his sarcasm, which judging by your inability to understand satire is pretty unsurprising
Brittingham
I don’t think you understood mine. Why are you trolling me? Honestly? Who is playing the victim? If you want to live in your PC bubble where no marginalized group of people can ever even be mentioned without you assuming they are the punchline, go ahead. I don’t endorse, encourage or spread hatred/shame. If you read it that way that is on you. I can’t help everyone deal with their oversensitivity. Even my aforementioned 4 year old daughter isn’t this sensitive.
SuperSinker
Say something offensive*
Get told it’s offensive*
Play victim and say everyone else misinterpreted/is too sensitive to understand your cutting edge humour*
Rinse, repeat. Boring.
bravesfan1970
Honestly, I found it mildly humorous. But I don’t think it was offensive at all. Lighten up, people.
