The Mets announced today that lefty Steven Matz is headed to the 10-day injured list with radial nerve discomfort. He’ll be replaced on the active roster by first baseman Dominic Smith.
While Matz had hoped to avoid a stint on the shelf, it seems he’s not bouncing back quite quickly enough. The Mets already placed Jason Vargas on the IL, replacing him for the time being with just-added righty Wilmer Font.
Fortunately, the outlook is still favorable. Matz is expected to be ready to make a start on Thursday, MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo was among those to tweet. As for Smith, it seems that this’ll only represent a brief return to the majors unless an injury occurs before his roster spot is needed.

In a few hours the sun will set. That may be more shocking.

Who won the DL pool for 5/9?

At least the Mets fans have all those championships, Cy Young Awards, All Star team appearances, and that Mets Dynasty that the media promised from the great Hall of Fame pitching staff of deGrom, Harvey, Syndergaard, Matz, and Wheeler. If these achievements never happened, this whole thing with the Mets would be just sad…and I’m saying this as a Marlins fan.
@DaOldDerbyBastard
Stanton and Yelich and Ozuna. That is all.

32-year championship drought and counting. One thing Marlins, Phillies, and Braves fans can enjoy laughing at together. That is all.

The kicker Miami has the same amount of ships all time as the Mets.

The marlins have made the postseason twice ever
GarryHarris
Its happened before: Generation K pitchers Bill Pulsipher, Jason Isringhausen and Paul Wilson along with Bobby Jones and Paul Byrd made the Mets pitching staff media darlings…. before they ever threw a pitch in MLB.
If everything was fair and even, every MLB team would be in the WS once every 15 years.

Miami still has a team??
MarlinsFanBase
Mets fans should know this. Did you miss the last series of both the 2007 and 2008 seasons?

Miami has TWO professional sports franchise; the Dolphins and the Heat…..oh…..
MarlinsFanBase
Yet, the Miami franchises have more championships than the rival franchises of the rival Mets/Jets/Knicks fan base.

Miami has South Beach..NUFF SAID

True. That’s where LeBron took his talents when NY was selling those “I LeBron NY” merchandise.
Hey, does everyone remember when Mets fans thought Juan Lagares was one of the best OFs in MLB?

Marlins season is so miserable that fans are in a met thread flexing about LeBron James. Lol equal parts funny and sad

I think all Marlins, Braves, Nats, and Phillies fans will agree with this. It’s always great to be a fan of a NL East team. We enjoy the moments when our teams are good like all fan bases do. However, in the NL East, no matter how bad your team is at the moment, you can always take comfort in looking at the Mets to know that your team is not the biggest joke and laughing stock in the division…and they make sure that the media puts it on display at a national level so the entire world can enjoy in the laughs.
ShieldF123
Not an NL East fan, but pretty sure that the Marlins are the joint laughing stock of the entire league right now along with the Os
