The Braves have designated lefty Jerry Blevins for assignment, MLB.com’s Mark Bowman tweets. Righty Kyle Wright was already optioned down, thus creating two active roster openings that will be filled by relievers Jesse Biddle (back from the IL) and Wes Parsons (recalled from Triple-A).
Blevins opened the season in the Athletics organization, facing the unfamiliar position of earning his way onto a major league roster. He ended up being acquired by the Braves and installed in their relief unit.
Things haven’t worked out as hoped for Blevins, who has allowed four runs with four strikeouts and three walks in his 3 1/3 innings over six appearances. That’s too short a sample to draw any final conclusions, but Blevins was working at or near career-worst levels of velocity (89.1 mph average fastball), swinging strikes (8.1%), and hard contact (50.0%) in th ebrief showing.

but he could throw strikes…
bravesfan 7
Not really, 3 walks in 3.1 innings and 4.9 BB/9 last year
RunDMC
An upgrade from his replacement (Biddle).
DarkSide830
…whose BB/9 has been lower then Blevins’s both of the past two years.
RunDMC
Well…he’s not walking them now…lol. But he sure ain’t getting them out…
jorge78
Well. throw strikes once in a while…..
bravesfan
I’m gonna have to change my tag cause there are two “bravesfan” and I make good comments and this guy makes odd comments
todd76
Well that was quick!

Here’s your chance Friedman.

Why is Jessie Biddle back? Serious question.
tim815
Presumably, they have nobody better, and aren’t willing to pay the minimal amount to get someone marginally better from someone else.
I’d imagine a few teams would give the Braves a better Triple-A option for (an early third day draft pick from last year) that’s been doing well.
efax0977
No kidding….have to figure it’s because he’s out of options??? Still seems a “rehab” assignment would have been in order.
Everyone is going to give up runs, but if walk-a-diddle Biddle can’t throw strikes Braves just need to suck it up and let him go.
DarkSide830
your really gonna let him go after 9 walks in just over eleven innings? its only May, and its not like he had a horrid ERA either.
mj-2
Are you really in here talking about ERA? His WHIP is above 2 lol
DarkSide830
the job of pitchers is to limit runs. theoretically, you can walk 3 guys every inning and still never allow a run. i dont care how many batters a relief pitcher allows if he doesnt allow runs. i know runners lead to runs, but you also cant assume runners in to be exactly proportional to runs allowed.
jorge78
Strand rate would matter more it seems to me…..
jorge78
Half his runs were unearned…..
mj-2
And right on cue Biddles era balloons to 5.30 or something.
You were saying???
DarkSide830
he was one of their best RP last year, managed to allow fairly few runs despite his walk woes this year, and for lack of other options.

Brian Jordon predicted today that there is a big trade coming, saying the braves are dangling camargo, Ender, and Tehran. Question is, what do these guys bring back? Camargo clearly has the highest value right now right? But why would we trade him? I understand trading Ender and Tehran as we have guys in the works that might be just as good if not better and both of SOME value right now. Albeit not a lot.
bhambrave
I could see trading with the Giants for relief.
petfoodfella
I’d be interested in seeing that happen. But I wouldn’t want Acuna in CF, I want Pache.
inkstainedscribe
Not sure where Camargo fits long-term unless he is the everyday 3B and Riley is in LF (or vice versa).
Camargo needs regular ABs to be effective, and frankly, I hope Riley can play LF because Camargo’s best position is 3B.
In ’20, I see Pache in CF and Acuna in RF (with Ender traded in the offseason if not sooner).
braveshomer
I like Brian Jordan alot but man he’s seems to be the most disconnected Intel of all the Braves media…good or bad i don’t bank on anything he says unfortunately
mj-2
If the Braves have “money to spend”, something for Ian Kennedy with Scott Barlow attached to offset taking on Kennedy’s contract would be a decent match and may not cost much in terms of prospects depending how much the Royals want to shed paying Kennedy
Mrtwotone
Wow he had one bad outing. Should have kept him
RunDMC
We would need to get back a nice piece(s). If a team has some/any bullpen pieces they’re dangling, consider that if you believe Swanson has turned a corner, you’ve locked up Albies, and Donaldson/Riley are your hot corners, with Culberson as the super-utility/4th OF (with Duvall swinging a distant emergency option)…what value do we really have in Camargo’s depth – and is it more/less than what some other team has in possibly seeing him as a starter?
lv braves fan
Unless we are getting controlable pitching that is a huge upgrade trading Camargo would be tough to swallow. Charlie Clutcherson is a great ph and guy to fill in a day here or there but he can’t fill in for an extended period of time like Camargo is. Not to mention Camargo should be getting at least 1 game in RF every week to help keep Markakis fresh all year so we don’t have a repeat of last year from Markakis because he got tired and played every game.
petfoodfella
Not sure I can agree it’s a hard pill on Camargo, maybe last year. Not this year.
chippahawk
Ender just came out, this smells like a trade coming..
Folty as an ace, gross. He’s your prototypical box of chocolates, just never know what youre guna get..
Solid 3 or 4 though.
braveshomer
Folty getting rocked again…man good thing we didnt waste any money or prospects on starting pitching. phew, close call!
walshanater
Designate Folty

I never liked the Blevins acquisition in the first place. The Braves had to pay over $1.34 Mill for that subpar performance. I hope we don’t trade Camaego. Donaldson and Markakis will be gone soon. Riley at 3rd, Camargo in Left, Acuna in right and Pache in center seems to be the best long term solution after next season.
