The Reds have acquired utilityman Rob Refsnyder from the Diamondbacks, according to the Reds’ official Twitter account. In return, the Diamondbacks will receive a player to be named later or cash. Refsnyder will report to Triple-A.
After signing with the Diamondbacks during the offseason, Refsnyder’s stint with the team is over already. The 28-year-old will join a Reds team that has sorely lacked outfield production during the young 2019 season, representing a depth option behind Matt Kemp, Scott Schebler, and Jesse Winker. Should any of that trio’s early season struggles grow into a significant concern, Refsnyder will be in the minor leagues, capable of filling in at a corner outfield spot. Refsnyder can also play first base and, in theory, second base (though he hasn’t appeared at the keystone in the Major Leagues since 2017), but the path to infield playing time in Cincinnati is crowded.
Refsnyder, who broke into the big leagues in 2015 with the Yankees, has appeared in parts of four seasons with three different teams and owns a career batting line of .218/.308/.302 in 423 MLB plate appearances. Last season, he worked to a .760 OPS in Triple-A, though the .588 mark he posted in 40 games with the Rays was less impressive. Refsnyder, out of options and not on the 40-man roster, largely represents organizational depth at this juncture.

I started to but…… didnt have the energy.
It was funny the first thousand times, dip.
The GOAT himself. Reds can’t lose now.
I don’t understand all the Refsnyder Goat comments. He was never ranked higher than 4th in a weak Yankees system that was regarded as a bottom 10 system. When he received his first promotion to the Majors this site didn’t see fit to announce it. They put it into a quick hits article later in the day. He came up and hit a home run in his first game and he gave the Yankee fans who had not seen a home grown hitting talent in over 5 years since Gardner came up. The Yankees were in a rare season where they were not considered contenders when the season began. So, I don’t understand the anymosity towards him. He was a failed prospect who received the acclaim from scouts and the professionals equal to someone like Estrada or Wade. A few fans thought he could become a star not the Yankees brass. Now if you wanted to say these things about Greg Bird I could understand but Refsnyder wasn’t expected to be an all-star. Cashman didn’t even view him as a starter. That is why he resigned Drew. Which wouldn’t have happened if he expected Refsnyder to compete for 2nd base. Will somebody please fill me in on this?
I think it’s making fun of a group of Yankee fans who call every pinstripe prospect a future Hall of Famer…?
Pretty much. Its just light hearted sarcasm
Well this move sure won’t help them score a run
The Reds couldn’t hit, and now they REALLY cant hit.
Excellent point. With Refsnyder on your team the team average has nowhere to go but down.
Sonny Gray and Refsnyder on the same team. The universe is in perfect harmony
Did they send sonny gray down to L’ville?
Just need Swihart now to complete the HOF hat trick……
Swihart? Stewart?
Who else mistakenly spells “Swihart” as “Stewart” Lmao
Autocorrect
The legend himself will turn this 1-8 team into a 154-8 team. Bravo Reds management, bravo.
Dont sleep on Player To Be Named Later or Cash. Could breakout this year if given the right opportunity.
Loved him as a BlueJay. Difference maker. Sarcasm heavy.
Thanks for clarifying the sarcasm
I have to say, the Refsnyder HOF comments weren’t funny the first time…let alone the 500 times since
“boo hoo i hate when other people have fun!!!”
This is confusing to say the least
The one thing the Reds didn’t need more of was terrible, yet they traded for it….
i mean they didnt really give up much
Lol, Refsnyder terrible? You gotta be out of your mind. Refsnyder is going to break Pete Rose’s hit record, and Barry Bonds’ home run record.
Future HOFer Swihart will break those records first
Wow. The Diamondbacks are so dumb to give up baseballs best trade chip for a PTBNL or cash!!!!! They couldve gotten Trout, Harper, and 2001 Bonds for him. Reds make out like bandits on this one.
So when does he break Pete Roses hit record?
Future participant in the Yankees old timers game
I see this as a precursor to a bigger trade…
Instant playoffs.
Should have played to win in spring training. Losing anytime is bad but getting used to losing breeds more of the same. Owners and Manager to blame. Players not ready or good enough to compete. Time to get some fire in the players where they dont accept not winning, and get mad at failure. Pitchers should be learning how to hit. On days off hours in batting cage. Major league players need to learn how to slap ball or bunt against a shift. For millions of dollars failure should not be an option or accepted.
Go home. I’m sure there are some kids you can yell at to get off your lawn
Man talk about selling high on Scooter Gennett… Reds fans get ready!
I think the Reds picked him up to play the outfield in AAA… Phillip Ervin may be called up for Tuesday’s game…
Not to worry….he won’t be there too long. No doubt he’ll be flipped at the trade deadline.
Eh, flipped, DFAd, what’s the difference …
I’m thinking the editors at MLBTR, before posting about Refsnyder, should include some sort disclaimer similar to that of prescription drugs on TV….”talking about Refsnyder’s HOF status can lead to blurry vision, dry mouth, and in severe cases, kidney disease…)
Can’t wait until the Giants and Reds play …
“Here we are again in this series, the Giants and Reds tied 0-0 in the 15th.”
Refsnyder does not receive rave reviews.
This is the culmination of years of mlbtr comment evolution.
I mostly stopped commenting but I had to read through all of these for old times sake
PTBNL = Yasiel Puig
I think picking up a first ballot Hall of Famer like Rensteffer is going to change the Reds fortunes dramatically in this young season.
