The Pirates have placed outfielder Corey Dickerson on the 10-day injured list, per a club announcement. A right posterior shoulder strain is the cause of the placement.
It’s not entirely clear what kind of absence is to be anticipated. Dickerson will cease throwing for at least ten days, according to Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic (Twitter link). Whether there’s any possibility of an activation after the minimum absence isn’t known.
Righty Jordan Lyles was activated from his own season-opening IL stint to take the open roster spot. He’ll step into the rotation, but obviously won’t be much help to a lineup that is now missing another of its best bats.
For now, the Bucs won’t add another outfielder to the active roster, preferring instead to lean on Melky Cabrera, JB Shuck and Pablo Reyes in the corners. Infielders Colin Moran and Kevin Newman are each getting some preparatory work in the outfield in case they’re needed, MLB.com’s Adam Berry notes on Twitter.

Maybe the Pirates can sell some more players for CASH hungry Nutting. How many days until the Pirates dump Cervelli’s salary. Can’t wait for bring your own bobble head night and bring your own fireworks night at PNC Park. Open the books let’s see the balance sheet.

“Bring you own…..”
LOL!
baseballhobo
The Pirates may start picking ballplayers out of the crowd.
greatone14
If the Bucs “dump Cervelli” it will be because Diaz is going to man the position everyday and Diaz has a lot more up side with his bat
The Ghost of Bobby Bonilla
It’s interesting you mention that – I just got a telemarketing call from the Pirates and they said if I buy two Pittsburgh Baseball Club tickets, I’d get two free ski lift tickets to use at Nutting’s 7 Springs (for use in May/June only).
Also, a 50% off ticket to SkyBlast…err Bring Your Own Fireworks Night against the Marlins.
Pirate Fever! Catch the Excitement! which is sort of like ebola.

Lots on the disabled list this year
Dan_Oz
I think the only guy still on the ‘disabled list’ is Ellsbury
Melchez
I don’t think it’s any more than normal… it’s just there are some Yankees on there so these writers are very concerned. They love them some Yankee news.

For the love of god I can’t take it anymore half my gosh darn team is on the dl

Should have added better OF depth. Even if this is just a strain and Dickerson is out for a little over a week, the Pirates should have added more OF depth over the off season. Little injuries like this happen all the time and with Gregory Polanco out, it’s insane to think that they thought they acquired enough OF depth with Melky and Chisenhall alone. They should have signed Adam Jones, and/or Gerardo Parra instead.
geejohnny
Jones wanted a full time spot. The Pirates had none available especially when Polanco comes back. Wasn’t as if Jones couldn’t find a job.
mlb1225
There were still better options than just Jones though. Like I said, they could have gotten Parra who went to the Giants on a minor league deal. That goes for Granderson as well. I don’t know how much I like Denard Span post Spring Training, but he was another guy they could have looked into. But I’d take anything than to have JB Shuck as the 4th outfielder right now.
Goku the Knowledgable One
The main issue is they got ChisenDL on the cheap because of his nickname..
Big surprise, he’s hurt when his team needs him.
Huntington has got to go. No more excuses.
If the cheapskate owner gives you 10Mil to spend, then spend it on one player to actually fill a need.
Tired of this splitting up 3 different overpayments of league min non-difference makers.
Lyles, Lonnie, Erik.. all completely worthless.
Like really? He gave Lonnie 2 years? That’s atrocious on every level.
Should be fired for that alone.. let alone the Cole trade return …
greatone14
There are so many flaws in this comment it’s hard to know where to start…
greatone14
There are so many flaws in this comment I don’t know where to start… ok well let’s address the Cole trade, there has only been 1 piece in that trade that hasn’t worked out (Feliz) Musgrove has been basically as good as Gerrit Cole in a Pirate uniform, Colin Moran is a solid defender and can swing a good bat, Jason Martin once he comes up full time will be a stud he’s doing really well in the Minors. Gerrit Cole whined and complained and got us no where. His return is way under valued because of whiny yinzers who don’t look at the business side of the sport. If people would get over losing Cutch and Cole and realize this team can compete in this division then they’ll have something to do this summer. Cole was losing control and cutch was declining both were highly over sold for what we got in return. Remember people crying about Mark Melancon getting traded for Rivero and Hearn? Look what that got us. (Hearn was dealt for Kela)
Now the Lonnie deal. He is signed to a ONE year pact worth about $3 million to be a 4th OF and take Polanco’s spot until he’s healthy, they knew the risk in signing him.
Erik Gonzalez was a good trade to get a solid defensive shortstop since they were worried about Newman taking over full time at short and add competition to the position.
Lyles is a 5th starter who will literally go out there to get you minimum 5 innings pitched you get lucky for 7+ innings pitched.
billbucs
Yes, Lyles really got crushed last night. Give it time

Agree with most of this post.
One criticism that could be levied is they have been waiting too long to trade some of their players (Cole, McCutchen, Harrison, Nova to an extent…traded them when their value was down.) Seems to have done the same with Cervelli.
They should trade high on Marte, Polanco, and Archer if they get healthy and play well. But then everyone will complain they are trading away their good players. And if they had traded Cutch and Cole when they were great everyone would have complained that they are trading away their great players while they are trying to win. It’s really a no-win situation for Huntington overall.
Goku the Knowledgable One
No that wasn’t my argument on Cole.
Point is we didn’t receive anyone of value for him.
Musgrove is decent with some upside.
Moran is a bench player, Feliz is worthless.
Cole should have returned Clint Frazier or Forrest Whitley..
Actual real prospects instead of AAAA depth guys..
When they work out, he’s a genius.. but people negate how many worthless assets he’s acquired ,, not only worthless but suspected to be worthless upon arrival.
Bay trade, Cole trade 2 biggest trades of each era for Huntington..
Return: Brandon Moss, Andy LaRoche, Craig Hanson, Joe Musgrove, Michael Feliz, Colin Moran and Bryan Morris.
Point is, the guy is not a good GM and gets too much credit for his rare good moves.
I don’t think he had any determined targeting of Lopez, other than it made sense for the Nats at that point to swap a prospect for a proven vet in their run.
Goku the Knowledgable One
Also, I DO like the coaching staff and overall direction of the team.
Just don’t think Huntington should be calling the shots on trades and free agency anymore.
Nothing he does is ever a real upgrade,,just always taking a chance on maybe replacing the guy who left the spot to fill..
Example: Erik Gonzalez… Litterally the only worse option than Mercer…
Could’ve went for Beckhum or Galvis, who both signed reasonably , and actually are good defenders unlike Gonzalez, who is terrible .. people just said he was because they assumed he was a good defender while scratching their head at why we’d hand a starting SS job to a feather bat….
Rant over. Love yinz. Go Bucs!
Robbyw90
Did he hurt himself after swinging at J Hicks slider?
