I was waiting for this.
Strike Four
Liam Hendriks belongs on the Rays, I wonder what TB and Oakland could out for a package of Hendriks, Canha and maybe Mengden?
Lefty Grove’s right hand
I like the idea of trading all those guys, but particularly Mengden. A’s need to make room for Montas and Luzardo for the rotation. Zunino and a prospect maybe? Throw in Phegley so the rays are not without a catcher.
Lefty Grove’s right hand
I also don’t understand why they are saying Mengden is guaranteed a rotation spot. Weeks before spring training began, he was not guaranteed a spot but now they are saying he is. Why?? It’s not like he’s been pitching great this spring. Apparently, he still has options remaining too.
Strike Four
Mengden was just optioned to AAA – reported by Slusser. He looks like the odd man out now both Montas and Luzardo look like locks for the rotation.
sacball
Mengden has looked awful all spring
damon389
Hendriks last year got DFA’s, cleared waivers, pitched in AAA, then got called back up and has suddenly been very good in the “opener” role. Even though Mengden was sent down, he’s still on the 40-man roster and will be back up soon enough.
The A’s biggest need (other than a top-shelf SP, which doesn’t come cheap) would be another LH reliever. Doesn’t appear that Blevins has enough left in the tank. A’s do seem to have a glut of OFers and I think Canha or Fowler could be had for the right price.
Lefty Grove’s right hand
Wang has been impressing this spring. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make him the second lefty in the bullpen. Blevins was a good minor league pick up to gamble on though.
damon389
I’ve yet to see him throw, but I did see the latest box-score. He’s been close to perfect in spring training so as much as I like Blevins, Wang has certainly earned that final roster placement.
lowtalker1
Mitchell needs a dfa but I feel like aj will allow him to make the 25 man roster with one final shot
mikevm3
Didn’t the Nats release Solís?
Steve Adams
They did. I updated to remove that. He hadn’t been released when Tim started putting this together. Leaving him on was an oversight — apologies on that!
Beisbol1600
Scared for Alen Hanson, Chris Stratton. Both could miss the opening day roster, and as a Giants fan I think the two of them have great potential. Hanson > Solarte, Stratton > Pomeranz
Strike Four
Wow, massively wrong on both.
Monkey’s Uncle
Are we talking about the same Alen Hansen? The one with the career .269 on-base percentage? His chances of sticking around in the majors for awhile improve with rosters expanding to 26, but he’s never going to be more than what he’s shown so far, which isn’t much.
Beisbol1600
Was still an overall better play than Solarte in 2018. He figured it out when he got to San Fran, and I think Stratton will have a big year this year. He relies on his offspeed, which isn’t as good in Arizona, which is why his Spring stats aren’t good right now.
bastros88
eh he could play many positions on the diamond, he’s 26 and is cheap. might as well give him a chance
pustule bosey
they aren’t going to expose stratton, if he doesn’t have a rotation spot he’ll either be a long reliever or very traded
geronimoradio
If this wasn’t about baseball, this would be the most depressing headline ever.
HalosHeavenJJ
Noe Ramirez isn’t pitching well in ST and the Angels have a decent number of replacements: Hudson, Jennings, etc.
I can see a number of relievers, platoon outfielders, and third catchers hitting waivers at the end of camps, like usual, across the league.
cookmeister 2
every time Ramirez comes in, it’s a guaranteed run. Same with Bedrosian. Wouldn’t mind neither of them being back
xabial
Great list, sir Tim.
Comrade Tipsy McStagger
Xabial — An honest question: Do you miss the downvotes? Do you kind of miss being the MLBTradeRumors villain?
johnrealtime
Ha, villain

Seems like a lot of teams are going to have to make tough cuts in their bullpens, particularly the Phillies, Mariners and A’s. Could lead to some very intriguing names on the waiver wire.
Side-Note: Hanser Alberto should be on the Orioles
Michael Chaney
Of the Indians’ out of options guys, Bauer, Olson, and Plawecki are obviously locks to make the team. Salazar will be on the injured list, and Moroff and Neil Ramirez are on the fence.
Ryan Flaherty has looked surprisingly solid this spring so he could possibly get the utility job over Moroff, and I think the Indians have enough bullpen options that are better than Ramirez.
Monkey’s Uncle
As a Bucs fan I wasn’t overly disappointed to see either Luplow or Moroff leave, but I can at least see Luplow potentially being a platoon corner outfielder for a few years… the new Brandon Guyer, if you will. To me Moroff is not a big leaguer. He doesn’t really do anything well enough to stick around, including his defense at any position he’s tried.
twinkietime
It looks like the Twins win with 10. It sure impacts roster flexibility.
mstrchef13
FYI, Hanser Alberto is with the Orioles again, having been claimed off waivers from SF.
todd76
I remember when Manny Banuelos was a sure thing Hall of famer since he was a Spankees prospect.
sheff86
WOW. Manny Banuelos. That flowers pedals fell off real fast.
TrueOutcomeFan
Seems inevitable that one of the three Red Sox catchers will wind up in Chicago.
Rich Hill’s Elbow
With Sano out and Marwin in at 3B, it seems as though Adrianza is safe for now, but what about Austin and Magill?? I mean, I could stand losing Magill, but losing Austin is gonna hurt. Hopefully the FO doesn’t let him go for nothing.
nentwigs
Perhaps Austin will be traded . To a team looking for a RHB to platoon at 1B and/or OF. Surprised the Twins are not giving Austin time in the OF.. Unfortunate result of signing a “Batter Only” player in Cruz. To SF for Stratton, if he doesn’t stick?.
Ninth 3 Year Plan
Altherr to the Giants
Vizionaire
cam bedrosian stayed long enough with his name alone.
CuddyFox
Why is Mikolas on this list? He just sign a contract extension.
gleybertorres25
They don’t exclude anyone. Hence Trevor Bauer being on the list
klarmore11
This is the kind of content that Hoops Rumors often posts which I find really useful. They’ll put up stuff like “teams with open roster spots” or “teams below salary floor”… not great examples but it’s nice to have that kind of stuff in one place. Especially with MLB stuff like options, which I always have a hard time finding.
Would like to see more of posts like that MLBTR, for example a post with Super 2 eligible players,
canocorn
Most of these guys will stick on the 25-man.
ThatBallwasBryzzoed
If the Cubs are smart they offer mike Montgomery at least a 3 year deal.
andsc
FYI, if someone cares to correct the list, Hanser Alberto isn’t a Giant any more. The Orioles claimed him off the waiver wire on March 1st.
GarryHarris
If the player gets picked up on a waiver, does the new team have to keeep him on the 40 man roster?
andsc
I don’t believe so. Although to remove them from the 40-man, they would expose the player to waiver claims again. The Giants have been living off the wire this off-season, and have seen a lot of players come and go.
