Jeff, I think it’s safe to remove Klentak from the hot seat. His “boss” said recently that he has the greatest offseason in mlb history, and gave him the credit for being the commander behind it. All of that maybe arguable, but if your boss is giving you that kinda praise, and this thing goes south in Philadelphia, you’d think the owner would look to the players vs the GM in this case. Now the next year, sure he could be on the hot seat if it turns out poorly, this year, klentak has a fresh bucket of ice on his seat, layered with cool paks. He’ll sleep good this year.
Jeff Todd
I am not remotely saying he’s on the hot seat. That is what I was asked. But as I made clear in answering, there are few if any GMs that are truly “on the hot seat” in the sense that they are clearly facing make or break type years.
I simply listed him along with several other GMs who you could describe similarly. It is certainly notable that the Phillies are pleased with him now, but the stakes are high in Philly and he has been there for a few years. Just that I can see some further vulnerability in that situation than in some others.

My bad, my reading comprehension went MIA. Lol it didn’t recover after the 1st paragraph, I see now.

All good, I just wanted to be sure I was doubly clear in here on my feelings. Last thing I want is a call from the Phillies asking why I’m advocating for regime change!
Strike Four
No one sane can say the Phillies had “the greatest offseason in mlb history” with zero games played, they’re barely a contender as-is. They need Kimbrel and Keuchel, get them and then his seat will be ice cold.

Well .. you’re not sane so … 🙂

Why don’t the BoSox give Kimbrel his 6 year deal…but, FRONT LOADED. Give him $20M the first year…and $10M x 5 years after that. So AVERAGE Anual salary would only be 11.6M…(for tax purposes). And be sure he has an opt out after the first year…:)
Jean Matrac
I don’t think anyone wants to sign a closer, especially one who might be in decline, for 6 years. The reason being Kimbrel could flame out, or be injured, and not pitch for more than 2 or 3 years, Given that contingency the Sox would still be taking an $11.6M tax hit per year for the next 3 – 4 years with nothing to show for it.

Hill with the Marlins? Wasn’t he hired from the Yankees by Jeter? I think this is correct. No way is he on the hot seat.

Hill has been with Miami since 2002 and president of baseball operations since 2013

Thanks, my bad. Who did they hire from the Yankees?
