Today: Castillo has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Double-A Mobile, per a team release. He will remain with the Angels organization.
Mar. 27: The Angels announced their previously reported waiver claim of outfielder Brian Goodwin, adding that they’ve designated right-hander Jesus Castillo for assignment in order to open space on the 40-man roster.
Castillo originally came to the Angels in the 2016 trade that sent righty Joe Smith to the Cubs,. The 23-year-old spent the 2018 season with the Angels’ Double-A affiliate, pitching to a 4.94 ERA with 5.5 K/9, 2.8 BB/9, 0.6 HR/9 and a 45.4 percent ground-ball rate. That represented a significant step back from a 2017 season in which Castillo recorded a 3.32 ERA with a 118-to-26 K/BB ratio in 124 2/3 innings between Class-A Advanced and Double-A. The Halos will now have a week to trade Castillo or attempt to pass him through outright waivers.

The Angels designated Jesus for assignment…
I think someone wrote a book about this once.

Entering 2018, Castillo was a top 7-12 prospect in the Angels system according to multiple top prospect rankings (MLB, Sickles, Fangraphs, etc)
That is quite a fall from grace in one short season; even in an extremely shallow system like the Angels have
precision
Not sure what you’re using to determine the Angels system, but it’s definitely not “shallow”.

does thin work better?

No it doesn’t. Do your homework and look at their recent ranking.

if their so deep in the mimor league, why don’t they have a lefty out of the pen
calangelfan
Nope, never cared for mimes. Do note though that the Angels right-handed relievers have done well against left-handed batters. I think that they have 3 right-handers that boast 2.5 or lower era against lefties.

The angels farm being weak has been accurate but not so in the last 2/3 years….people just love to act elitist towards rival clubs and act as if the success of their team is something that they helped to contribute too…they also are quick to put down the efforts of smaller less successful teams like the angels. Just give it a rest 4/5 prospect in top 100 not weak.

Stewart: A “lefty out of the pen” isn’t the basis for whether a team has a strong farm system or not.

Sometimes my brain bleeds just a little reading these comments. He isn’t out of options. This whole article is worthless.

I do agree with you although my brain is not bleeding…that would be death…The Angels need outfielders badly due to injuries and this Castillo kid was the next one in the “expendables” list due to his regress in performance in 2018. If he gets claimed, he will be returned in no time,

Ummmm okay… and?
