MLBTR needs to stop allowing so many Harper questions every freaking chat. Nobody knows anything new let’s stop going in circles and having bs responses over something that hasn’t changed since offseason started like come on. More chats a week doesn’t mean more covering of something we have no clue about.
@ Tim dierkes.

While Harper questions are tiring, there is new info. For ex, who is this other bidder vs. PHI if not SF? Will Harper get the largest contract ever (free agent & extension)? How stupid is Middleton’s money?
bravesiowafan
I trust zero reporters on Harper news look at MLBTR Harper feeds with updates every hour or two new contradicting info on Harper
davidcoonce74
Man, you know you can just ignore stuff you don’t feel like reading on the internet, right? Harper is a huge name; he has a huge buzz around him and his Free Agency, which is really good for baseball – baseball needs stars and unique personalities. It needs its Lebron James’ and Tom Bradys and the like. People complain about how baseball doesn’t market itself well, then they complain when lots of people are interested in a baseball player. It’s a catch-22.
Mike Trout is the best player in baseball, and may end up as one of – if not the – very best of all time. But he has the personality of a slice of bread, and will probably never hit free agency unless he’s adamant about it. Harper and Machado are generational talents, hitting free agency at incredibly young ages. They are polarizing guys – in good and bad ways. That’s good for the game. Baseball needs faces and heels, to borrow a wrestling term.
petfoodfella
The other bidder has been a mystery, that’s not new. SF has never seriously stepped up (at least that can be linked) for Harper. They wanted shorter contract. There has always been a mystery team, and my guess is Atlanta or Seattle.
This is all fluff – w/ the only new note being the Phillies plane went to Vegas. But, we’re still here hitting refresh bc it’s nothing new.
chesteraarthur
Those last two are not new, at all. You’ve defeated your own argument.
CursedRangers
Heyman stated their were two bidders yesterday. But it seems illogical. A owner flies his personal jet into Vegas. Spends all day with Harper and Boras, flies out late in the day. When was this other team negotiating with Harper? Did Middleton take a multi-hour break and let someone else have a turn? Heyman seems to be a mouth piece for Boras. So I’d take the second unnamed mystery team with a grain of salt…

White Sox gonna get Harper.

I see media people are STILL picking Washington to win the NL East. lol
So silly.
jleve618
East is a 4 team race at the moment.
petfoodfella
I beg to differ, but it’s just my opinion. It’s just hilarious that Washington is ALWAYS picked by media people. Always. it’s like they have to keep picking no matter what.
Mostly w/ the WS picks over the years, since they have won the division, but done nothing in the post season. But I think they just can’t help themselves.
I don’t think Washington pulls it out, I don’t think they even make the playoffs.
bravesiowafan
Agreed 2 of the three best starters they have are notorious injury risks
dugdog83
It’s only the Braves and whatever team Harper goes to.
bhambrave
The Braves pitching staff is still full of ???’s. Until that’s resolved, I don’t think you can call them a favorite.
bravesiowafan
Wasn’t that the case last season? Didn’t several pitchers take steps forward? Don’t the Braves have more SP depth then any team in the majors?
bhambrave
I’d characterize the Braves as having the most pitching opportunities, but until several pitchers actually pitch well for a whole season, you can’t say they have depth.
ChiSoxCity
LOL at Heyward’s 12-team no trade clause. As if that deal couldn’t look any worse.
Also, I don’t get why baseball bloggers keep saying the Sox should trade for a longterm asset at the trade deadline. To what end? They’d be right back in the position they started five years ago. They had Sale, Quintana, Eaton and noting else. With no quality FAs accepting contract offers, you need depth on the roster before trading away young players. The Sox basically have to follow the Cardinals model. Build a perennial top 10 farm system, then trade from your depth when the team is strong enough to contend.
petfoodfella
Heyward is just plain terrible, and simply unmoveable. He would have to be moved w/ someone like Bryant to even get that deal done. Like when Atlanta traded Kimbrel w/ BJ upton (or w/e his name is now) to move his terrible contract.
Nothing else can get Heward moved.
ChiSoxCity
Any trade of Heyward would require the cubs eat a sizable portion of his contract. They’ll never do it, not their MO.
Worst signing in MLB history. Virtually no one thought he was worth that kind of contract when the cubs signed him.
bhambrave
Chris Davis -Orioles beats the Heyward contract as worst ever.
ChiSoxCity
Heyward: 8 yrs/$184M
Davis: 7 yrs/$161M
1 less year for Davis seals it for Heyward.
maximumvelocity
That’s not true at all. That was the off-season when every defensive WAR advocate was clamoring why Hayward was the best free agent outfielder to hit the market in years, but fans were too stupid to recognize his value. The big debate was between cepesdes and heyward, and anyone who suggested that cepesdes would be a better signing was excoriated by dWARheads. Both don’t look great now, but at least cepesdes has an excuse.
Cubguy13
The Cardinals apparently thought he was worth that kind of money and then some as they offered Heyward more than the Cubs did
ChiSoxCity
And they’re glad they dodged that bullet.
chesteraarthur
Heyward is worse because of 1 extra year only works as an argument if you’re ignorant and completely ignore the value they do provide.
jdgoat
Wow chisox you don’t even try and hide how biased you are against the Cubs. Every post embarrasses yourself.
bhambrave
Over the last three years, Heyward has cost $77M and produced 5.2 bWAR. His offense has trended up the last two years. He’ll start the season 29 years old. Davis has cost $69M and produced .4 bWAR. His offense has fallen off a cliff the last two seasons. He’ll start the season at 33 years old.
Melchez
As a Tiger fan, I wish we had Heyward. It’s better than seeing guys like Ty Collins, Mike Gerber and Mikie Mahtook roaming the outfield.
Tiger salaries have come back down to earth… send Heyward, Zobrist, and Happ and we’ll send you an assortment of AAAA garbage. Farmer, Machado, Lugo, Stumpf, Lewicki… There’s more where that came from if you want it.
With Zobrist and Heyward gone, you could sign Harper.
Central Valley
I keep checking in on the SF Giants sites and crickets on Harper. No new info, even if they’ve rescinded their intersect in signing him. Strange not having any updates.

If the Giants are bad this year his career W-L will be under .500 with the Giants. But he more than likely will go into the HOF for obvious reasons. Just a weird thing being under .500 as a manager and being a unanimous HOFer.
