The Yankees announced Wednesday that they’ve traded infielder/outfielder Tim Locastro to the Diamondbacks in exchange for minor league lefty Ronald Roman and cash. Locastro was designated for assignment earlier this week in order to open a spot on the Yankees’ roster for DJ LeMahieu. Arizona’s acquisition of Locastro fills the team’s 40-man roster.
Locastro, 26, has just 15 MLB plate appearances to his name, but he’s a .307/.402/.443 hitter with six homers, 33 doubles, two triples and 30 stolen bases (in 34 attempts) in just 114 games of Triple-A experience in the Dodgers’ system. New York acquired him from the Dodgers earlier this offseason, but Locastro didn’t last the full offseason on the Yankees’ 40-man roster following several infield additions, including LeMahieu and Troy Tulowitzki.
Locastro has played all over the field in the minors and has spent most of his time at second base and shortstop. He does have a pair of options remaining, and he’ll give the D-backs some additional depth in both the infield and the outfield following today’s reported agreement with former Mets infielder Wilmer Flores (for which they’ll now need to make a corresponding move following the acquisition of Locastro).
As for the 17-year-old Roman, he’s yet to even begin his professional career with the D-backs in earnest. He signed as an international amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic back on July 2 when this year’s international class kicked off and has not pitched for any of the team’s Rookie-level affiliates. He’ll presumably head to the Yankees’ affiliate in the Dominican Summer League this coming season, where he’ll make his in-game pro debut.

Pitcher with upside. Cashman always killing it.

let’s calm down, he’s ways away

But getting a interesting lottery ticket for a recent waiver pickup ain’t bad. Better than nominal cash considerations.

Seems like a decent trade. Maybe he turns out to be something that can help at a major league level. Still years away put may be worth the wait.

How a team late in the draft every year can add “a few extra pieces” every season.
Nice add, however it plays out.

You sound like you’d be impressed with Cashman if he found a wod of used bouble gum under a Yankee stadium seat. We don’t know anything about him. It’s not a bad trade. We just won’t know if it’s good for another couple years.

It’s a good trade.
Locastro was gone, anyway. This way, NYY gets four years of developing a kid before being Rule 5-eligible. Which is a good way to add quality at a better value than the waiver fee.

make room on the 40-man by taking off a marginal guy for a guy they don’t have to put on it for 5 years… yeah I’d take that deal
sufferforsnakes
Yeah, all this action today has me really excited.
rjsuitor
Leocastro looked like a jab better then Sugar Shane Robinson who got in near 40 games for Yankees …nice knowing ya

Arizona really is a confusing club. Why haven’t they traded Peralta, McFarland and Ray? The signings they are doing remind me of a rebuilding team like this one and Flores. They traded Goldy and they haven’t tried to replace his production. They haven’t replaced Corbin either. Right now they look like they are a 72 win team with no direction at all.
Houston We Have A Solution
Jake Lamb moves to 1st. Escobar to 3rd.
Ray still has 2 years, they could QO Peralta, and brought in Luke Weaver as part of the Goldy deal hoping he regains his form.

I think Kevin Cron is the main reason the D-Backs haven’t brought in a bigger name to replace Goldy. Do NOT sleep on Kevin Cron, who plays 1B, and has done nothing but smash his way up through the minors.
Idk exactly what the D-Backs plans for Cron are, but he really doesn’t have anything left to prove at AAA. I honestly wouldn’t be all that suprised if Cron earns the 1B job with a hot start in Spring Training.
Cron has definitely earned a chance to prove himself at the ML level, and if they decide to give him a shot, me personally, I truly would NOT bet against Cron.
Kevin Cron obviously is not Goldy. He cannot match Goldy’s production at the plate nor in the field, but then again, neither can the vast majority of ML first basemen. However, even with that being the case, Cron very well could be the D-Backs next long-term option at 1B. He’s more than capable of hitting .275-.285, smacking 25-30 HR’s, driving in 70+ runs, and providing the D-Backs with a true power and run-producing bat in their lineup. Plus, Cron is also a pretty sure-handed defensive first baseman, so he will certainly provide the D-backs with plenty of value.
Yes, Arizona did bring in Wilmer Flores, but I feel they see Flores as nothing more than a versatile option off the bench, that can spell one of their infielders when he needs a day off..
Do not say Cron came from nowhere if and when he’s named their starting first baseman. I’m giving you fair warning, this kid is pretty dang good, and soon a lot more people will understand why Arizona didn’t sign or trade for Goldy’s replacement..

You know u suck when u get traded for a 17 year old who has never even played yet!!! Hahahaha
