The Orioles have agreed to a deal with right-hander Gregory Infante, MLBTR’s Steve Adams has learned (Twitter link). It’s a minor-league arrangement for the Venezuelan hurler, who is repped by Godoy Sports.
Infante, 31, has seen action in each of the past two seasons with the White Sox — his first time in the big leagues since a brief showing way back in 2010. He provided 54 2/3 useful innings in the 2017 campaign, working to a 3.13 ERA with 8.1 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9.
Things didn’t go as well in 2018 for Infante, who struggled through nine frames in the majors. He did rack up a strong 51:10 K/BB ratio over fifty innings at Triple-A, though he was also touched for ten long balls and ended with a 4.50 ERA at Charlotte.
There’s opportunity aplenty in the Baltimore bullpen, so this looks to be a nice landing spot for Infante. As things stand, only a few O’s relief jobs seem to be sewn up, with most of the spots likely to be competed in camp this spring.
Maybe his BP meatballs can help Chris Davis break out of his funk?
Hard to see much upside here with a mediocre fastball that lost almost 2 mph last year, thrown 70% of the time
The fact that he throws it 70% of the time could be part of the problem He still averages nearly 94Mph on his Heater and perhaps if he mixes his pitches they could squeeze something out of him. Or if not he’s organizational depth. 99% of the time these deals don’t work out but there’s a chance.
x?
Gregory Infante is mildly interesting because he played 3 years on the Sox and wore a different uniform number in each.
Never even heard of this guy.
you have now
same
If it’s going to be a minor league deal, find the most likely path to a big league roster.
Yep, not a bad philosophy. Taking airplanes and getting blown out in Baltimore is better than taking busses across the country to go play in Rochester.
Could have been good for the Dodgers. They need pieces for after the tear down.
The scary thing is that they could pull a Thanos and just trade away half their roster for nothing and still be the best team in the NLW.
The NLW is still significantly stronger than the AL Central. The White Sox are on par with the Dbacks. The Giants are still better than KC. Col>Minn. LA and Cleveland we can all a wash. If the Dodgers started dismantling im pretty confident the Rox would take the division. If the Indians traded Bauer and Kluber they’d still be
favorites with the other guys and that’d be assuming they got nothing but prospects back.
what is a thanos
Finally the big news us O’s (and all MLB) fans have been waiting for!!
Hahahah!
Any relation to Omar Infante?
Who said the O’s won’t spend money?
Its exactly the type of move the Orioles should be doing. Depth for the lean years.
He passed the physical?
Got him mixed up with Omar Infante for a second.
