Catchers are a dime a dozen. Blake Swihart is a cheaper option that JTR and I believe with proper playing time he would easily put up production that is in line with a league above-average catcher.
driftcat28 2
Well That’s just silly
Mjm117
Silly and ridiculous.
JTR isn’t even expensive compared to his production.
Syndergaarden Cop
Arenado is overrated and needs Coors.
Career splits:
Home: .320/.374/.609/.984
Away: 263/.318/.469/.787

Never go for the Colo-inflated

Ya look at tulo he is a prime example. Injuries didn’t help him by any means but he was still average at best with the bat, was good in the dirt tho have to give him that

This.

facts don’t lie. but losers will still downvote
xabial
Says the loser who said he downvotes all my posts without reading them based on “principle”
“Principle” of what? Thread inactivity? Hypocrite
Syndergaarden Cop
lol troglodyte xababy just doesnt stop. think ill keep stringing you along for a bit while you have minimal comic relief value

Facts shouldn’t get down votes, but selective stats should. Maybe not look at BA so much, and include park adjusted stats in your assessment. Arenado plays in the NL West where 3 of the 4 other parks in the division are not hitter friendly..
And apparently you fail to realize that 263/.318/.469/.787 is actually pretty decent for road stats. His park adjusted stats, OPS+ and wRC+ are way above average, 121, and 118.
Almost all guys hit better at home. You have to wonder about someone when they think a guy that that plays elite defense, has well above average park-adjusted stats, and has close to an .800 OPS, on the road in a lot pitcher’s parks, isn’t very good.
Syndergaarden Cop
You have to wonder about someone who equates “overrated” to “isn’t very good.”
Jean Matrac
What happen to those facts? Now it’s about semantics huh? Sorry, I guess I should have said you have to wonder about someone when they think a guy that that plays elite defense, has well above average park-adjusted stats, and has close to an .800 OPS, on the road in a lot pitcher’s parks, is not exceptional, but just good.
Curtis Beale
Check out Jose Altuve home/road splits. If he could play all his games on the road, he would be touted for best player ever.
Jean Matrac
Home/road splits are statistically unreliable. There are too many small samples from too many varying situations. Why does Mike Trout hit better in Citi Field and Petco Park, noted pitcher’s parks than he does in hitter’s parks like Minute Maid, Great American, and Citizens Bank? Home/road splits within the division are more reliable, but why not just use park-adjusted stats like OPS+ and wRC+?

Hey wait a minute. I forgot to tell you guys where Bryce Harper signed. Whoops. Guess you’ll be surprised when you read the news that will be announced after the holidays. January 2nd.
shortytallz
White Sox fans will be so happy.
xabial
But my christmas is on January 7
You sure Bryce won’t sign past January 7th? 😉

Everyone go read the Frozone article. Doesn’t it sound like it was written by a 10 year old?
Michael Chaney
I wouldn’t necessarily say that, but he wrote that he wouldn’t have given McCutchen more than one year and $10-11 million, which is a fairly bad take.
I wrote articles for sites like that when I was 16 though, so it’s not like the next Ken Rosenthal is writing any of those pieces. I’m not sure if I want to go back and reread things I used to write anyway.
jbigz12
The guy who wrote that article is at least 40 by the looks of his profile pic…. He seems to fundamentally not understand FA in baseball. If he signed these guys to the kinds of deals he likes he wouldn’t sign anyone because that’s far below market value.
Drew Waters Bat
Gonna be nice here soon when Arenado is the starting 3rd baseman for the Braves. I hope Donaldson plays well enough to garner another deal with the Braves after this season. Maybe beat Arenado out of the future plans.
Syndergaarden Cop
I’m a Braves fan, an don’t want him. Would much rather have Rendon instead.
Phillies2017
I think they should make it a rule that you need to fill your ballot. It’s ludicrous to think that there aren’t at least ten guys on this ballot deserving of the HOF.
Not that my opinion matters but my ballot would be:
1.) Doc
2.) Mariano
3.) Edgar
4.) McGriff
5.) Bonds
6.) Mussina
7.) Clemens
8.) Walker
9.) Manny
10.) Rolen
its_happening
It’s ludicrous that the BBWAA still has the power to vote. Now that we know they, as a group in-general, vote based on feelings over fact means they are doing a disservice to the candidates, Cooperstown and the fans. Time to rip the vote away from the PED protecting hypocrites.
jjd002
Who do you propose do the voting? The only people worse at voting than the players are the fans. The writers are the best people to be voting.
jdgoat
Tony Larussa just shown lifelong baseball men can’t be trusted either…
Bubba 5
Manny, Clemens, Bonds for the obvious. Rolen ?? Messina why because he pitched in NY? Gooden you have to do it a long time not 4 years.
MWeller77
I might be wrong, but I think he meant Halliday, not Gooden.
MetsYankeesRedSox
How does Loggins feel about Messina?
laswagn
Remove Bonds, Clemens, and Manny. Then we can talk.
Rich Hill’s Elbow
No way should the Twins extend either Odorizzi or Gibson, just trade both now, or later at the deadline. Besides, I’m pretty sure they both could bring back a decent return (especially Gibson) considering how starved the league is for quality starting pitching.
ThatBallwasBryzzoed
Ryan Braun is not a hall of Famer.
baseballpun
Even if he wasn’t a cheating a**.
laswagn
Matt Kemp deserved that award, even before knowledge of Braun’s PED use
Michael Chaney
Yeah and I don’t really even think it’s close either
He was traded thata way.
Padres should sign Tulowitzski. Idc who they sign long as it means getting rid of pirela.
doxiedevil
Andruw Jones should get into the HOF one day. Think Jim Kaat should be in also.

MWeller77
Tulo: average with the bat, but rave reviews in the dirt
Edward Kohne
15 articles and not a single quote or cited one of many sites, blogs and newspapers that cover the Reds to hear their side of the story about one of the blockbuster trades of the offseasons. Congrats guys!
MWeller77
They did devote an entire post to “Reaction & Analysis: The Dodgers/Reds Trade,” but hey, don’t let that stop you from writing critiques of a free site staffed by people who are unfailingly nice in their interactions with the readers
Edward Kohne
Oh sure they did. But, do You see within their ‘sources’ a single freaking Reds’ beat writer, blog or site, You know, people who actually know the team?. Of course not. But hey, don’t let the facts hit you. I Guess since it’s a free site they couldnt afford to quote a Reds’ expert just a Dodgers’.
MetsYankeesRedSox
Then don’t come here.
