The White Sox announced that they’ve claimed left-hander Ian Clarkin off waivers from the Cubs. It’s a quick turnaround move by the ChiSox, who only last week lost Clarkin on waivers to the Cubs.
Clarkin, 24 in February, was the No. 33 pick by the Yankees in the 2013 draft but went from the Yanks to the Sox in the 2017 David Robertson/Tommy Kahnle swap. The 2018 season was an ugly one for Clarkin, however, as he was hit hard in 68 Double-A innings. In 18 appearances (10 starts) at that level he posted a 4.98 ERA and averaged just 4.6 K/9 against 4.1 BB/9.
It remains to be seen if he’ll stick on the 40-man roster throughout the winter this time around, but the White Sox have now acquired Clarkin from outside their organization on two separate occasions, so they clearly see plenty to like in the former first-rounder.

Circle of Clarkin is complete. Reminded me of Trayce…

This is going to be the new Rangers-A’s battle over Adam Rosales

Ah what a classic that was

I played with him at Madison High school in San Diego, from 2009-2013. Really good pitcher, I think he will see big league tome eventually with the Sox. We had him and SP Corey Oswalt on the New York Mets in high school rotation from that same time span.
On a real baseball note- Good attempt to catch a nice prospect in limbo by the Cubs though. Worth a shot to claim and attempt to stash.
Why
This seems a little rediculous. I wouldn’t have believed the White Sox could just claim him back.

Clarkin is terrible. Was glad the Yankees dumped him in that trade. I knew he was a bad pick by the Yanks just by watching his ridiculous windup in scouting videos. Plus, he was full of himself. I seem to recall him saying he was worth more than the bonus the Yankees offered him. He sobered up and grabbed it, unfortunately for the Yanks, instead of going to college.

I would like to see a source for that quote please. (I’ll save you the time, there isn’t one. He never said that.)

I love when people get caught saying outlandish sh–, are proven wrong, and, well… crickets.

Yeah, that simply didn’t happen.
Clarkin is still a prospect. He’s not a great one. But he still has a big arm from the left side. He’s probably going to end up as a reliever. If he can find command of his secondary pitches, he can still be an elite pen option someday.

The Cubs will claim him back in a couple days.

Yes. It might then promote an Ian Clarkin edition Hot Potato game locally and in plenty of time before Christmas.

So I’m guessing he’s gonna be the next Adam Rosales/Alex Castellanos/David Rollins. Happens to at least one guy every offseason.

Don’t forget Brady Dragmire, I remember he was getting claimed quite a bit last offseason.
