The Rockies have designated outfielder/first baseman Jordan Patterson for assignment, per a club announcement. His roster spot was needed to make way for the club’s addition of several players who would have been eligible for the Rule 5 draft.
Patterson, 26, made it up to the majors for a brief debut in 2016, but evidently wasn’t in the club’s long-term plans. He had spent the past three seasons at the Triple-A level, where has steadily turned in good numbers. The former fourth-round pick carries a cumulative .282/.363/.516 slash in 1,517 plate appearances at the Rockies’ top affiliate.
Tigers make the most sense to be as they can give him an extended look at 1B.
The writing was on the wall when he wasn’t a September call up in either 2017 or 2018. For that matter, one has to wonder why he was even on the 40 man roster as long as he was.
Another casualty of the Ian Desmond signing.
The gift that keeps on giving…
Hopefully he will get a shot with someone like Detroit or Baltimore
Miggy and Chris Davis are there taking up spots at 1B. Could see either one of them move to a DH role though
Miggy can shift to DH full time with V Mart gone.
But he won’t. There’s still room though.
Somebody should give this guy a shot. All he’s done is hit in the minors
Kinda reminds me of Garrett Cooper
Rockies must hate his defense or attitude, because there’s no reason why he shouldn’t have been playing in the majors in 2017 or 2018. Had the offensive numbers in AAA to warrant a callup.
The Angels could really use a left handed bat, first baseman, and corner outfielder. In fact, that’s exactly what we need after pitching and catcher.
Is his defense decent?
.990 F% at 1st, Not bad at all. I don’t understand why this kid hasn’t been given a better look, especially since his one cup of coffee in 2016, albeit a very small sample with 18 ab’s, he hit .444/.474. But as someone else has said, he’s done nothing but hit at AAA. 52 home runs in the past two seasons.
Paging Mr. Hahn
Attitude is out of the question for Jordan . Went to high school with him and he is nothing but a class act . I’ve been wishing Rockies would trade him for a while now just so he could have a legit chance at the mlb level . Hopefully he gets on with a team and makes the most of it
Makes the fact that he wasn’t recalled in 2017 and 2018 worse. Makes Colorado look clueless.
Considering Polanco is injured for the first half of the year, Patterson would make sense for the Pirates. Also, Bell had an off year. If it continues, Patterson might be in the right place at the right time.
The Rockies were mediocre, at best, at the plate the past two seasons, and Patterson was never even given a shot.
Terrible roster management by Bridich.
