The Reds have claimed outfielder/first baseman Jordan Patterson from the Mets, per a club announcement. He was only recently claimed by the New York organization from the Rockies.
Clearly, the Mets had hoped to stash Patterson off of their 40-man roster. Instead, he’ll hang on to a MLB placement — for the time being, at least. He does not appear to be particularly clean fit on a Reds roster that already has plenty of options at his positions to face right-handed pitching, but it’s still possible he’ll enter camp with a shot at earning a job.
Regardless, it seems reasonable to expect that the Patterson will get a shot at some point in his age-27 season. He has little left to prove at the plate in the upper minors, after all, having slashed .282/.363/.516 over three campaigns at Triple-A — an impressive track record even though he was hitting at altitude.

That’s good, a left handed power hitter who can sub on the corners. Hopefully he works out. I don’t think there is any other lefty in real contention to be on our bench.

He will forever be the former mets great

Makes zero sense to me that he was never given a legit shot in Colorado, or traded for someone else who might have possibly filled a need.

Corner OF/1B aren’t in great demand unfortunately. Rox have been trying to interest teams in him for a while now, as he was firmly behind a couple other dudes in that organization.

You’re right. Although in 2017-18 Colorado had a struggling Gonzalez and an injured Dahl. Clearly they didn’t have faith in Patterson.

Two years in a row he was on the 40 man roster and did not receive a September call up. Colorado clearly had no interest in even showcasing him for a trade.

…. and in 5 days he’ll be claimed by the Twins.

Or by Detroit, to replace Adducci/Martinez.

You would have thought the Giants would have taken a stab considering their outfield situation.

Jordan, we hardly knew ya

And the Mets signed Dillon Herrera today. Reds and Mets have swapped bench players.

Honestly though, the Reds are almost guaranteed to non-tender him. They do this every year- make a few claims and release and re-sign them at the non-tender deadline so they can bypass the waiver process.
Past few years, see Kyle Crokcett, Juan Graterol, Gabby Guerrerro

This is the type of move you come to expect from the Reds. Why not grab a pitcher, they do need pitching don’t they????????
