The Rangers have decided not to bring back pitching coach Doug Brocail, per TR Sullivan of MLB.com (via Twitter). The Texas organization has been evaluating its staff to serve with new manager Chris Woodward.
Brocail had been in his post for three seasons. The long-time MLB hurler took over for Mike Maddux after the 2015 campaign. Before that, he had worked in the Astros organization as a pitching coach at the MLB level and on the farm.
FINALLY
Ok I will give Jon credit for finally doing the right thing here. Doug was objectively terrible.
It’s about time
Say hello to Jim Hickey
Has he formally been let go yet?
No, and the waiting has me thinking Hickey may be staying in the org. as a developmental instructor.
FINALLY.
“Pitch inside”…
So do Brewer fans have to worry that Stern will want him? Can’t be any worse then Peterson could he?
Need someone who can develop pitching….just hired some one from Tampa bay.
Right? Anybody from the Rays or Pirates.
Big sexy
Yankees want him (they want everybody)
great article thanks
Sometimes we don’t have much to add and just convey the news!
Boom
they should pick up Brian Price. terrible manger but great pitching coach.
I always wonder how things like this goes between former players.
Woodward: “Doug this is a very difficult decision but we have to let you go.”
Brocail: “Ah stick it in your ear!! You’re only doing this cause you couldn’t hit me!”
LOL!!
….so that would mean Woodward could never use a former pitcher as his pitching coach!
Probably like this scene in “Bull Durham” where Crash Davis arrives in the Bulls’ clubhouse and meets the manager and pitching coach. Talking to the coach, Crash says, “You should remember me, Larry Hockett, because I faced you five years ago in the Texas League. You threw me a curve, a 2-2 pitch in a 3-2 game, and I tattooed it over the Michelin Tire sign and beat you, 4-3.”
Long overdue. Horrible pitching coach.
Not sure you can blame Brocail for the pitchers Jon Daniels Gave him to work with this year.
Replacing Maddux was always a tall task
