The Orioles announced that shortstop Tim Beckham and catcher Caleb Joseph have been non-tendered. Both are heading onto the open market; the former had projected to earn a $4.3MM salary, the latter $1.7MM.
Beckham seemed to have turned a corner when he landed with the O’s last year, but he fell back to earn in 2018. Over 402 plate appearances, he slashed just .230/.287/.374 and did not grade well at short. As for Joseph, he has bounced up and down with the bat in recent years but turned in a miserable .219/.254/.321 season last year.
No not Caleb
Just here to bump up the comment counter
Burn it down! Please!
Caleb will only be remembered for not driving in a single run in 2016
Not surprising at all. Some people thought we might keep Beckham but there’s really no reason for that.
Guess you’re right. Time to turn our attention to others.
We certainly need to sign a SS but Beckham wasn’t the guy. Guy had a great start to his Baltimore career but I never liked the move. We need to move away from that kind of high K/no plate discipline player.
Correct you are.
Good Elias. Just remember to not rush the kids up to the train wreck that is the major league squad. With that said, we will need to put SOMEBODY out there while we restructure a bit.
Seriously, if you get non-tendered by the Orioles, it might be time to consider the next stage of your life’s journey.
Hysterical
Both 2008 1st round Beckhams were a bust!
You should have seen the comments after the Beckham trade to the O’s on Rays blogs when he had that good month after the trade. He was always a streaky hitter that never lived up to being the 1st overall pick.
I just saw that the Brewers didn’t tender Schoop. Why not move Villar to SS & re-sign Schoop to play 2nd?
I wish BOTH Caleb & Tim good luck wit heir future endeavors.
When you aren’t good enough for the Orioles, where does a ball player go? Independent League?
With Arbitration there is a cost value consideration. You might be a serviceable backup catcher like Caleb Joseph but not at $1.7 million per year.
