Here are the day’s minor moves:
- Indy ball flamethrower Taylor Grover will get a shot with the Reds after signing a minor-league deal, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic writes on Twitter. Grover was a tenth-round pick of the Red Sox, but never made it past the Double-A level and found himself out of the affiliated ranks this year. The 27-year-old responded with an eyebrow-raising campaign in which he not only worked into the triple digits with his fastball but pitched to a 2.55 ERA with 11.9 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 over 53 frames split between the American Association and Atlantic League.

The first step:
Look for hidden gems in minor league signings
The second step:
Trade Iglasias, Gennett, possibly Suarez, and Hughes this season and look to get SP back.
DodgerNation
Are you kidding? With the exception of Hughes who MAYBE should be on the block depending on return available I say hold on to everyone, they want to start winning not keep loosing.
fruitsaladyummyyummy
Iglasias is locked up for 1 or 2 years. if youre gonna contend in 2020, they aren’t contending in 2019 so its a wasted year on his contract You could get back pieces that will help you more during your contention period given his value.
Gennett is a free agent after the 2019 season, which you aren’t competing in. Hughes is only controlled through 2020.
Only one that is possible is Suarez, but you can move him for long term assets, like pitchers and a CF, and put Senzel at 3B. Who helps more? Suarez or the assets he will bring?
You could hold on to everyone and lose Gennett and possibly Hughes for nothing. Not get the return Iglasias would command trading him with 3 years of control, not 2, not 1.
Sirsleepit
Iglesias literally signed for 3 years yesterday.
bigredsfan41017
Reds just signed Iglesias to a 3 year deal on Tuesday! He’s signed through 2021

Reread the 1st part: Iglasias is locked up for 1 or 2 years. if youre gonna contend in 2020, they aren’t contending in 2019 so its a wasted year on his contract
Reread the last part Not get the return Iglasias would command trading him with 3 years of control, not 2, not 1.
2019- not contending
2020- maybe contending
2021- maybe contending.
2 years during a time they may contend. Thanks though.
jcraft21
Wtf?
JFactor
You didn’t help yourself make any more sense.
No way they’d be trading Iglesias right now
rdsfan05
Wait if you’re proposing trade scooter why would u trade Suárez to put him at 3rd base when 2nd base is unoccupied
rdsfan05
I’m referring to Senzel in the comment above
fruitsaladyummyyummy
Yeah, Padres locked up Brad Hand for 3 years last off season, traded him last trade deadline to cleveland for Francisco Mejia (top 30 prospect in all of baseball).
Saying no way they’d trade Iglasias right now is pretty short sided considering his return, which could be Chapman even Andrew Miller levels, means the Reds would be turning down potentially 3 to 4 good assets or 1 great asset that would outproduce what Iglasias would give them.
You trade Iglasias and Gennett to the Dodgers for say Alex Verdugo as the centerpiece whod you rather have? 50 or so games of Iglasias or 150 or so games of Verdugo to replace Billy Hamilton in CF?
slpdajab55
Holy crap .. thank God your not a GM
SirPartyAnimal
the problem with that is the dodgers don’t trade their top prospects. the way their whole from office is ran. That’s not what they do. be on the lookout for the Giants new GM, Farhan Zaidi. Now that’s a team that’s may be sellers and looking to rebuild their farm. I wouldn’t be surprised if mad bum is delt this off-season.
stymeedone
So how many Reds games have you gone to recently? Obviously, putting butts in the seats is not one of your priorities.
Let’s trade all the good players for quantities only assures you of acquiring quantities.
Houston We Have A Solution
Oh the point of baseball is whoever has highest attendance? Here I thought the point of baseball was to win games and championships. Thanks for clearing that up for us.
You know how you put butts in seats? Winning games. It’s a proven science in every sports league. Winning increases attendance. and whoever the reds trade gennett Iglesias hughes Suarez for will contribute more to them winning in the future than these players will.
Thank God you don’t make decisions for the reds.
ksoze
Lol, I guess he didn’t read that one.
titanic struggle
Agree with the first part, but before even considering the second, give your weed, papers, bowl and bong to your mom and tell her you’re finished with it forever because you can’t make reasonable and responsible decisions when you are high… lol
ronnyalton
Hmm, interesting indie numbers. I wonder how that will translate to the Milb?
andrewf
My guess is that he’ll be sent to AA and will move his way up since Indie ball is A+ quality overall.
andrewf
Similar to the CPBL.
ronnyalton
Agreed. Im just wondering how well he can adjust to other AA/AAA hitters. He could potentially be a solid setup man. Depending on his deception and command at higher levels.
Dock_Elvis
It’s a Derek Johnson system signing. Take upside arms and put them in the system that Derek Johnson has control over top to bottom.
zachary08
I hope this isn’t the promised pitching for the team
Dock_Elvis
No…but it’s a potentially shrewd move that no one will recall happening if he pans out.
stymeedone
It’s more likely that no one will recall it happening when it doesn’t pan out.
Dock_Elvis
Except all of here that make way too much out of minor league transactions.
Dutch Vander Linde
Tommy John surgery waiting to happen. This guy is gonna rip his arm off if he keeps throwing that hard.
joeshmoe11
There are literally dozens of guys who throw 100+ and haven’t had TJ. Depends on mechanics, usage, and reliance on secondary stuff and luck
SirPartyAnimal
I’ve never heard of the guy but I hope he dominates. I don’t know why I like a good ol come back story
Monkey’s Uncle
If it doesn’t work out for the amazing Gover, he always has his work on Sesame Street to fall back on.
