Always active on the offseason trade market, the Dodgers have been having “lots” of discussions with the Indians regarding a variety of potential scenarios, tweets Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Los Angeles unsurprisingly is intrigued by Cleveland’s pitching — as all teams would be — and Rosenthal notes that catcher Yan Gomes could make sense there as well. Conversely, Cleveland has a significant need in the outfield — an area of depth for Los Angeles. There’s no indication that there’s anything especially close to fruition between the two sides, and Rosenthal even notes that both clubs are chatting with several other teams. The Dodgers, for instance, are one of the many clubs with interest in Marlins star J.T. Realmuto.
Some more chatter on the trade and free-agent markets…
- Carlos Santana’s name has come up on the rumor mill early in the offseason, but Fancred’s Jon Heyman tweets that the Phillies also have relievers Pat Neshek and Tommy Hunter “on the block.” Reports since the team’s late-season collapse have indicated that the Phillies will be open to trading just about any player other than Aaron Nola and Rhys Hoskins, so it’s only reasonable that they’d be open to moving either relatively high-priced setup man. Neshek is owed $7.75MM and has a $750K buyout on an option for the 2020 season, while Hunter is owed $9MM and will be a free agent next offseason.
- Heyman also tweets that in addition to the Reds, Matt Harvey is drawing some level of interest from the Athletics. Cincinnati’s interest in Harvey has been well-documented, as he won over some decision-makers in the organization during his four-month run with the Reds. As for Oakland, their search for rotation help is no secret. It’s unlikely that the cost-conscious A’s will be players for the highest-priced options on the free-agent market, making second- and third-tier options
- The Twins checked in on Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, tweets Jon Morosi of MLB.com, though the report describes the talks as “preliminary.” While Minnesota has an obvious opening at first base following the retirement of Joe Mauer, though, Dan Hayes of The Athletic downplays the possibility of a Goldschmidt pursuit for Minnesota (Twitter link); Hayes notes that the Twins did make some form of inquiry but adds that this “doesn’t appear to be a path the Twins will go down.” The fit is obvious, but Arizona’s asking price on the perennial MVP candidate will be quite high, and he’s a free agent after the 2019 season.
- Morosi also tweets that the Cardinals have “maintain[ed] interest” in free-agent outfielder Michael Brantley, although Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch suggests (via Twitter) that Brantley isn’t a top priority for St. Louis. Per Goold, the Cards would need to miss out on more preferable targets and perhaps move other pieces of the roster before embarking on a legitimate pursuit of the 31-year-old. Brantley is coming off a strong season in which he hit .309/.364/.468 with 17 homers, 36 doubles and 12 steals, but the Cards do have in-house alternatives and are known to be looking at bigger fish (i.e. Bryce Harper).

Tyler Austin is garbage. Just saying.
justin-turner overdrive
Cron for DH and Goldy for 1B is a nice goal for Minn. That combo would be a massive upgrade and instant 3-4 or 4-5 hitters in the Twins lineup.
Bdd1967
Guaranteed Minnesota will not spend the kind of money it would take to get either of those guys long term. As usual they’ll sign someone that is a mediocre producer at a mediocre price hoping to get a slightly above average showing out of them for a year or two.
stymeedone
Goldy is already signed to an affordable contract. Cron was dfa’d. Dollars won’t be a problem.

I think Thames to Yankees for Sonny Gray is deal that could work for both teams.
Julio Teheran for Domingo Santana as well for that matter.

Very interesting
Samuel
“Reports since the team’s late-season collapse have indicated that the Phillies will be open to trading just about any player other than Aaron Nola and Rhys Hoskins….”
I’m sorry, but this is not at all how successful “rebuilds” are done.
Absolutely stumped why so many believe this team is on the cusp of contention. The White Sox and Padres as well.
Samuel
In rebuilds that work, a team brings up a group of young players that establish themselves as able to play in the majors together, with a few older veterans showing them the ropes. Then the FO works trades and free agency signings to shore up what’s missing.
None of those 3 teams have established anything approximating a core of young players that can play decent fundamental baseball at the major league level.
Those 3 rebuilds resemble a fantasy league draft.
The Braves did it correctly. Impressive. They’re at the point where the right additions can carry the team to a 3-5 year contention window. And the payroll is low enough to slowly add people.
Notice how Markakis and Suzuki did their jobs, and then are rotated off the roster as the younger guys take over. John Hart oversaw the rebuild. Brilliant. Solid.
Priggs89
Seeing as the White Sox have only been at this rebuild for 2 years and the only position player they’ve brought up so far is Moncada, I think you might need to give them a little more time before writing them off…
Samuel
Seeing as the White Sox have only been at this rebuild for 2 years and the only position player they’ve brought up so far is Moncada, I think people might need to give them a little more time before saying that if they sign a star free agent they can win the AL Central in 2019.
By the way, are you saying the pitchers are up?
Pax vobiscum
Only mild cheating involved.
Samuel
Oh, so which of the those players are on the roster?
Seamaholic
Gotta say, I know the Braves have done some things well, but it seems to me that what they have right now is … well, they have Acuna, Jr. And he’s a full on superstar. And of course Freeman. But beyond that I see a whole lot of question marks and decent young players like Camargo, or older ones like Inciarte. I have real doubts about their pitching, and their vaunted pitching prospects seem to me like a whole lot of good and not a lot of great. Compare to the Phils, who also have two superstars in Hoskins and Nola, and some promising pitchers, and more money to spend. I know it pains Braves fans to hear it, by the time this off-season is over the Phils will be in the better position on the rebuild. I think the Braves re-build stalls now, unless a few other guys break out.
NelsonCobb
Hoskins is a little questionable himself. His last 55 games, he hit just .215. Calling him a superstar right now is a bit of a stretch. Just saying.
Slevin
Nobody is a “full on superstar” after less than a full season.
steelerbravenation
Must be coming from a true Phillie fan.
Phillies are not on the Braves level.
jleve618
The Braves level is not something that anyone should strive for.
Cashford64
The Phillies fooled everyone with their record the first half, which was skewed by playing several games against bad or underperforming NL East teams. When it was all said and done, they had below average hitting, below average pitching, and the absolute worst fielding. Their current roster is not a contender.
Samuel
Going into this season all I read and heard was that the Phillies rebuild was to the point where the team was on the cusp of contention.
One year later they’re open to trading any player on the roster other then 2 guys.
Is this a joke?
The GM comes off as a sleazy used car salesman. The owner says he’s ready to spend stupid money. The manager looks at statistics and makes moves that leave his players, the broadcasters, and the fans wondering what’s going on. And now this.
Think I’ve read 3 articles the past week by local writers around the country wondering what the Phillies hyperbole is about. People are catching on. Don’t look now, but the Phillies are becoming a punch line.
Pax vobiscum
What are the three articles?
Pax vobiscum
Also how does Matt Klentak come off as sleazy. Your hyperbole is curious and I’m not a Klentak defender.
johnrealtime
I feel that it is good philosophy for a GM to be openminded about trading basically any player on a roster. It doesn’t mean they’re looking to trade everyone, but doing your due diligence and hearing other GMs out certainly doesn’t hurt. Really don’t understand how that’s some kind of negative. Really seems like you’re reading too much into that
Kevin Kmett
Which NL east team did the Phillies dominate? Maybe try looking up the results before commmenting.

As a Brave fan short term the Mets scare me more than the Phillies do.
DeGrom, Thor, Wheeler & Matz potentially could be best SP in the NL.
Long term the Nats with Robles, Soto, Rendon, Strasburg & Scherzer scare me more than Philly.
Philly has a 1B playin 3rd a 1B playin LF
The all world CF took a huge step back
Bullpen is suspect and the only SP that is any good is Nola. They got a long way to go to be on the Braves level.
Vizionaire
all world cf? he lives in new port beach, ca during the season.
debubba
Verdugo and Santana would be a boon for the Tribe. Give them Gomes and Kluber? Not only are you freeing up several dollars for free agency, you’re also bolstering a bullpen and get the best prospect back. Fair deal for an all star and cy young candidate for the last 4 of five years?
longlivethechief
They’d need way more than two players.
debubba
Think about the market and starters… Degrom and Grienke are also to be had. I don’t think you’re going to get any other players that would make an impact on the team this year. This is okay. They can pull one of their many catchers from the top 30 list since they will have Beto and haase for a few years on the big team.
Mattimeo09
DeGrom isn’t getting traded, that’s a bunch of wishful thinking from bored reporters and fans.
Greinke could switch teams but Kluber has a much better contract and more recent success.
In fact, Kluber has more value than Paxton, so what the M’s got is the minimum in a trade for Kluber
sufferforsnakes
Christian Santana?
fred-3
Think he means Dennis Santana
Michael Chaney
Kluber alone should bring back 3-4 players (two probably being in the top 50-100 or so), so adding Gomes would require a little more on top of that
Polish Hammer
And turn the catchers job over to Perez and a minor leaguer? SMH…
debubba
Perez could start for several teams. Besides, they have Gomes on the block. If they didn’t have confidence in Beto, they wouldn’t have done this. He calls a great game and has a bit of pop. Oh, and unlike Gomes, he stays healthy.
Mattimeo09
Perez hasn’t been an average hitter since 2015. His defense is great but his bat is awful. That’s not a good starting catcher.
Since Cleveland traded Mejia, their catching depth is gone. I doubt any team will trade enough to justify moving Gomes
sportsnut969
No even close to a Kluber Deal 5 time top Cy young award finalist 2 time winner front of the rotation starter 3 years left very team friendly deal. The Indians will look for 2 to 3 young control ready offensive players
Alex Verdugo CF is a guy that most likely would start for Cleveland out the Box
DJ Peters OF ETA 2019
Cristian Santana 1B ETA 2020
Gavin Lux 2nd Base – ETA 2020
The Above is what i believe a Kluber deal would look like
Now adding Gomes 3 Year control top major league catcher at a unbelievable reasonable contract to the Mix IMO would add
Will Smith – Catcher Most likely would break spring training as the starter behind the plate.
Gerardo Carrillo RH Pitcher – ETA 2021
But I really would like trying to pry Franmil Reyes, MacKenzie Gore , Josh Naylor out of the Padres or Anjudar , Frazier . Loaisiga out of the Yankees or Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, William Contreras Out of Atlanta rather than the Dodger Players for Kluber. Jmo.
This is not a rebuild they are trying to retool on the fly and it is only cause of the depth of the starting rotation that they can do this so the indians cannot swing and miss on any of these deals they will shed payroll by dealing hi end talent for major league ready or very near major league ready talent .
Slevin
Why should they even think of a retool?
Friarfaithful117
Ownership is at their payroll limits. I think they should keep pushing
Friarfaithful117
If the deal was Reyes, Naylor, and Gore for Kluber I would do that. I do really like Gore but Kluber is a TOR arm. Maybe add Stammen in for good measure.
bigrman
They’re not going to include Gavin Lux in that… I would say take him out and add Joc Pederson or Brock Stewart and the deal gets done.
andthelordspoketh
A more likely deal is Strippling, Urias, Verdugo, Will Smith, and Christian Santana for Kluber and Gomes. That is a fair deal. No way the Dodgers add in DJ Peters (who is the replacement for Puig in 2020) and Gavin Lux as well. though I could see them part with Strippling since he would be fighting with Ryu and Hill for starts and hits arbitration in 2020.
Indians would be getting 2 MLB ready pitchers with 1-3 years of pre-arbitration control and a top 7 prospect plus another top 100 prospect and another good upper-mid level prospect…
Lefty Grove’s right hand
Harvey could definitely come back to form under great coaching and a pitcher friendly ballpark and a great pitchers catcher like Lucroy again or Maldonaldo. Hopefully he can stay healthy, but he would be a good target for Oakland. GO GET HIM A’S!
Dock_Elvis
Harvey would also be getting a great pitching coach in Cincy
nikki29a
but the not so great american ballpark is not so pitcher friendly
Dock_Elvis
Yeah people downvote that because Derek Johnson just sucks. And GABP has a pretty serious misnomer when looking at park effects. It increases HR but not run totals
And because guys on rebounds get to all choose to toss in some cavern like Dodger Stadium
hammertime510
Absolutely – Add Harvey and trade for both Kluber and Gomes. If they have room to add Kikuchi, do that as well.

Jesus Sucre? Yeah, last I checked he was a free agent.

I think the pitcher of interest for Dodgers is Brad Hand, not a starter.
Michael Chaney
Why would the Indians trade Brad Hand? Their bullpen is already their biggest weakness and they’re taking advantage of the starting pitching market, not rebuilding
frankiegxiii
I think it would cost way too much to get Brad Hand, but there is an article by some clueless writer suggesting this trade, some other writer (Jason Reed) wants the Dodgers to trade Matt Kemp, Joc Pederson, Dennis Santana, Will Smith, and Jake Peter to the Mariners for Dee “9 walks in 588 plate appearances” Gordon… it wasn’t a joke article either
Slevin
There’s the annual mention of Brad Hand. Congrats you win a trip to the chocolate fountain.

Geez, I hope not. I’d rather have Christian Santana. Just finished up at High-A Rancho Cucamonga, but dang he can hit. Plays a good 3B, too.
Give me him, Verdugo, Ruiz, and the kid Rincon from RC, and let’s call it a deal.
justin-turner overdrive
-MLBTR you didn’t finish that sentence about Harvey.
Oakland works for Harvey in that he’s totally on the same tier as Sonny Gray. I still think the A’s -are- players for the highest-end SP’s, but Harvey just totally represents the backup plan for Gray.
Slevin
Stop with the A’s getting Sonny Gray crap.
rocky7
Yeh and JTO will also insist that Mateo goes the other way back to the Yankees…….been hearing this since he proclaimed the A’s were not only going to win the first wildcard, but then kick the Yankees _ss in the playoffs.

Personally, I don’t think the A’s will sign any top tier SP. I love the A’s, but it’s just not what the A’s do and I’ve accepted that. However, the Gray for Mateo swap is very plausible and it makes sense whether people want to admit it or not. I see the A’s trading for Gray, signing Harvey or Happ and resigning Jackson.
pojack
Right now, Happ and Harvey’s contract values aren’t close. Don’t see the A’s shelling the money out for Happ. Harvey I could see the A’s getting, maybe Gio Gonzalez.
Lefty Grove’s right hand
Yeah your probably right. Gio is more realistic.

I could see smoak being traded to Minnesota
iverbure
Jays fans are in for a rude awakening if they think they’re getting a huge return for Smoak. Every year there’s tons of 1b/DH types available and only a handful of teams who need a 1b. With that said they probably should move Smoak. Astros, Yankees also could be fits along with the Twins.
its_happening
Yep. The motivation in dealing Smoak is to clear a spot at 1B for Vlad, Tellez or possibly Tulo along with Morales. Someone has to move and Smoak makes the most sense. Astros and Yanks should be on their radar along with Minnesota.
justin-turner overdrive
Wait, do Jays fans think Smoak has trade value? LOL
At most Smoak brings back one prospect from the 25-35 range from the teams prospect list.
gino 2
Nationals should be making a huge push for Goldschmidt. They could really use an upgrade at 1st. Trade for Goldschmidt and get rid of Zimmerman would be real wise. They should be all in here.
Also they should offer Stratsberg to the Yankees for G. Torres plus other assets
Adding Goldschmidt and Torres to the infield would make the Nats a lot stronger in the infield.
I wouldn’t stop there either. I would offer T. Turner to the highest bidder to and sign Manny M. to play SS.
They could then send A. Rendon to the St. Louis Cardinals for a ton of prospects.
Then they could sign Josh Donaldson to a one year show me deal.
Donaldson-Manny-Torres-Goldschmidt that would be a very good infield. Better then current lineup!!
Then with Soto-Robles-Eaton with Suzuki at catcher.
bernbabybern
Torres is untouchable, especially with the Yankees already needing a SS or 2B.
Kayrall
Lol
Mattimeo09
Yankees already proved they’re fine with trading young players for injury prone starters.
Strasburg fits that category perfectly
NelsonCobb
Yeah, cause trading an established MLB All Star is the same as trading a questionable pitching prospect, huh??
NelsonCobb
You’re kidding, right?? Yankees trade a soon to be 22 year old, 3 win Torres with 6 years of control for a 30 year old injury prone 3 win Strasburg who’s owed 35 mil this year, and will be a FA in 2020?? And not only that, Yankees are gonna need to send other assets with Torres?? That’s a joke. Yankees wouldn’t even consider swapping Torres for Strasburg straight up. No chance. Especially considering the fact they can keep Torres and sign Corbin, who was considerably better than Strasburg last year and is a year younger, for considerably less than Strasburg is owed for 2019. So WTH would they consider that deal??
Also, why would the Cards give up “a ton of prospects” for 1 year of Rendon when they could just sign Donaldson themselves?? Makes zero sense.
Kayrall
Lol okay
JKB 2
Nelson Cobb that was one of the best RESPONSES I have seen you nailed it! Thank you for saving me the time!
By the way did Slevin really try to mock you for saying the Yankees would not trade Torres straight up for Strasburg? I think I was seeing things. No one who actually knows baseball would make such a silly statement let alone mock you for it. Wow!himself
Slevin is just embarrassing himself.
iverbure
Everyone is now dumber having read anything past the nationals should get rid of Zimmerman
Slevin
Even stupider for reading @NelsonCobb’s post “Yankees wouldn’t even consider swapping Torres for Strasburg straight up”.
NelsonCobb
Yeah, cause the Yankees trading a 22 year old budding superstar with 6 years of control for a 30 year old injury prone SP with a 35 million dollar salary and just 1 year left before he opts outs, that makes sense, huh??
Slevin
Less than one year doesn’t make Torres anything yet. MLB history is littered with players that fizzled after a little success. Strasburg is a power arm, and it would take way more than Torres to acquire him. I’m not advocating the Yankees doing even if they could.
JKB 2
It would not take more than Torres are you high? It would take more than Strasburgh to land Torres. Cushman is not dumb. You think they will trade Torres because he may fizzle? Hahaha
pojack
Strasburg is an expensive power arm who is injured every year, Torres was an all star at 22.. Yanks would not trade him straight up, not with other options out there.
frankiegxiii
Wasn’t Torres plus assets just traded for less than a year of Chapman not too long ago?
NelsonCobb
Did the Yankees get an established MLB All Star that day, or an unproven #24 ranked prospect?? Things have changed quite a bit in the last 2 years. Torres is far more valuable today than he was 2 years ago. And the Cubs were looking to get that final piece to break their 100+ year drought.
NelsonCobb
An All Star at 21 actually. He’s yet to turn 22 years old. Next like 20 days though.
NelsonCobb
A power arm that’s turning 31 next year, threw only 130 innings this past season (only throwing more than 147 once the last 4 years), and costs 35 million dollars for the 2019 season. Not to mention, his ERA, ERA+, FIP, WHIP and HR rate were all career worst numbers. His value, cause of the 35 million he’s owed next year and the likelyhood he opts out, makes him a less valuable trade chip than James Paxton, and that return wasn’t half as valuable as Gleyber Torres. If the Nationals traded Strasburg, they’re looking at a similar return as James Paxton, not a 22 year old All Star 2nd baseman plus.
justin-turner overdrive
absolutely no one takes zimmerman’s contract, he has no trade value whatsoever despite being a decent 1B
Michael Chaney
I totally understand the logic of the Indians potentially trading a starting pitcher, but I don’t really see the logic in trading Gomes. If they still had Mejia then it would make more sense, but I don’t see him bringing back a return worth having Roberto Perez as the starter.
iverbure
Teams value defence behind the plate much more than offence. Perez played a majority of the time when they made the WS run.
Michael Chaney
Perez is a decent defender, but so is Gomes. If Gomes was a butcher behind the plate then it would make sense, but I still don’t get the logic.
Mattimeo09
Perez played the majority of the time in the 2016 Postseason because Gomes was injured. Good job cherry-picking stats.
Gomes has played way more games than Perez has over the last 4 years since they’ve both been on the team.
Gomes has been better offensively and as good/better defensively as well.
RedRooster
Reds FO is still dimwitted for not trading Harvey at the deadline or letting him go when he was claimed on August waivers.
AsNchill
Don’t really get how they thought they’d get a lot for him, even with slightly better performances and an uptick in velocity.
It’s hard to ignore the last couple of injury riddled seasons, the flaking for workouts and pre-game preparation and attitude.
RedRooster
Whatever they got would have helped them way more than two months of Harvey.
Michael Chaney
I doubt they would have gotten much more than a low minors lottery ticket for him in August so they probably just decided it wasn’t worth it if they like him so much
RedRooster
I’d take a low minors lottery ticket over Matt Harvey any day.
astros_fan_84
I don’t understand the Indians. Their window is now. They can easily win the division for the next two years. Instead, they are punting, and hoping to have enough.
I’m glad they aren’t my team.
justin-turner overdrive
Same, it seems absolutely insane to trade any of their SP, and instead they should be taking the path the Giants, Mariners and Phillies are taking, but those 3 teams are MASSIVELY behind them in terms of pure talent, so the nonsensical “trade assets but contend” method seems wildly horrible for them.
Like they should sign Kimbrel, Pollock and Brantley, but aren’t because “reasons”.
iverbure
So you don’t understand budgets or payroll restraints. Don’t worry you will once the Astros lock up Correa Springer and Bregman. Just cause a team is close to winning doesn’t mean they can just keep adding payroll that’s not how reality works
justin-turner overdrive
Its absolutely how reality works, but your reality is that billionaire owners are refusing to put mere millions of capital into their investment, because…they told you they were going to be cheapasses? And you just…accepted it?
iverbure
What business do you own?
Slevin
Obviously a lemonade stand by the Bay.
iverbure
The reality is most owners have made their money not by owning a sports franchise. They own the franchise because themselves are fans. The reality is most owners would make more money not owning the team. They could sell and buy something else that would make the money they make off of owning the team look like peanuts.
Another reality of the Indians is the attendance for a winning club this year is pretty low. Now ticket sales revenue doesn’t make a huge difference but if I’m the owner and I put out a playoff contender and the fans didn’t sell out most nights, I’m not spending to my maximum capabilities.
steelerbravenation
That theory was true in the past but not so much anymore. Sports teams are now run like businesses.
Dock_Elvis
What business has anyone owned that gained appraised value by 10 fold from 100m to around 1.1B? These teams dont even operate like same businesses at this time.
MahatmaGagne
I would say a lesbian kayaking business by the Bay
indiansfan44
They are far from “punting” and trying to have enough. The Indians had 12 total free agents which is the most of any team. They had one of the worst outfields and 5 of the free agents they are losing are outfielders which tells you what kind of MLB ready depth they have. It feels like we are an injury away from having to pull a fan out of the crowd to play sometimes. The pen was a weakness too and losing Allen and Miller, even after down years, will hurt.
Because the rest of the rotation is so strong you can try to get someone that wants Kluber to meet your price. If you fill an everyday outfield spot, a decent arm for the pen and possibly a top prospect or 2 while clearing salary to sign another reliever then you have to strongly consider it. Everyone moves up a spot and there is a competition between Plutko, Salazar and Anderson for the 5th starter if the last 2 are fully recovered from surgery as expected. Worst case is none of those 3 can pitch well enough to hold the spot and you give your top prospect McKenzie the job post all star break.
Wahoo What a Finish!
Welcome to my world. I’ve challenged the Indians front office for a decade… they make some of the most head scratching decisions in my opinion. Not tendering Brantley was the latest head scratcher. The recent trade chatter surrounding Gomes makes zero sense because the Indians are extremely shallow at the catcher position in the organization.
Polish Hammer
And they tender an offer to Brantley and he pulls up with one of his usual injuries and every fantasy baseball genius comments on how dumb they they were for wasting $18 million on one player when they have so many holes to fill. They’re not a big market team that can get out from under a bad contract quickly, one misstep and they’re buried and selling off any piece they can (see Hafner’s deal)…
indiansfan44
I feel the same way about the front office alot but I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt this year. I didn’t like the idea of like picking up Brantley’s option last year and not signing any of our free agents but that appeared to work out for us at least based on the performance they had last season.
sportsnut969
I’m a Indians fan live here so here is your answer in short the fans do not support this team like they should they do not sell out very many games anymore like they once did they only drew 2 mil to the park last year with having a record franchise payroll in 2017 and 2018 so that is killing this franchise.
They have a outstanding quality starting depth that they can retool from in a very week division if they trade a Kluber and Carrasco to retool offensively in the Outfield and other areas they should still win the Central without much of a issue.
jayfaraday
The Twins need Carlos Santana
NelsonCobb
They’re far better off just looking to add one of the DFA’d guys Cron, Bour or Dietrich. Better and much cheaper than Santana. Santana is owed 35 mil the next 2 years, to take him off the Phillies hands, a team needs to demand about 25 mil to come with him. Terrible deal last year, and even more terrible today.
colonel220901
The Indians aren’t punting, they are more squib kicking it, they will win the division clearly but they are smart enough to know that the future matters as well
iverbure
Indians could easily deal Kluber get back a haul and still win the Central quite easily in my opinion.

Astros should trade for a Goldy/Grenkie package deal. They have the prospects to get it done.

I feel like they would be better off going after Realmuto, and any pitcher other than Greinke. I really doubt the Astros want to add such an expensive contract to be stuck with for 3 years, when their young guys are going to start getting paid big soon, and Altuve’s salary bumps up by $20 million after 2019.

Kendrys Morales to the Twins for the remaining salary owed to Phil Hughes.

What was the braves offer for Paxton? Doesn’t seem possible that they couldn’t beat the Yankees. Sheffield is regarded as an iffy starter, probable relief pitcher.

Regarded as that by who? Billy who won your fantasy baseball league last year? The people that get paid to know think much more…

What does it say about Klentak’s performance as a GM, when the players he signed to contracts only a year ago, are now on the trade block (i.e. Santana, Hunter, Neshek) or have under-performed their contract (i.e. Arrieta)?
As a Phillies fan – I’d say this is a make or break off-season for Klentak.

I’d rather see Kapler go honestly. He’s gotta find a way to end that late season tailslide before it gets out of hand. There was no urgency until it was too late.

As a Cards fan, I’d prefer Harper. But I’d rather take my chances with Fowler than sign Brantley.
Cardinals17
It is only a traditional annual hype orchestrated by the Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak concerning extreme interest in signing Bryce Harper. The history of the past 4 year with John Mozeliak indicates he will publicly make it known he’s going after the top players on the market each year. These early chase of name recognition players is and always a hoax by him and the Cardinals only to psychologically influence Cardinal season ticket holders to continue to purchase their tickets in false hope of seeing the Cardinals add 2 impact players. In the end, history will repeat John Mozeliak’s past. He will be at most, a second place finisher in the race for star players. Then he will do as he always does. Select Low Hanging Fruit for multi year contracts for big money and then they those players will be on the disabled list for over half of the season. (Past fiction efforts began with Pujols, Heyward, Price, etc.)

Past History of John Mozeliak would indicate the Cardinals are out on Harper and Machado. John Mozeliak is incapable of final phase big bargaining. Bill DeWitt won’t part with huge money for just one player. Hence, go buy your season tickets Cardinals Fans. But…… You will receive nothing in return.

You just explained the Cards management perfectly

Out of curiosity,
What would it take for the Twins to get Goldschmidt?
