The Angels have claimed right-hander Austin Brice from the Reds, per the Cincinnati organization.
Brice, 26, has not exactly distinguished himself in the majors to this point. Through 84 innings over the past three seasons, he carries a 5.68 ERA with 7.7 K/9 against 2.7 BB/9.
Clearly, though, the Halos like Brice’s arm. He works in the mid-nineties with a pair of heaters and also has shown two varieties of breaking balls. That arsenal has allowed the former ninth-round pick to compile a 2.70 ERA with 9.3 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 in his 53 1/3 total innings at the highest level of the minors.

Why did they do this did he need TJS
southi
Probably because they think that he has potential despite the injury. They also probably hope to be able to remove him from the 40 man at some point later without him being grabbed by another team. Those types of moves are not altogether uncommon with injured pitchers who don’t have much,of a track record but have potential still.
In other words he is a lottery pick in a way, they hope to sneak through claims later and hoping a change of scenery (and instruction) benefits.

He is not actually injured, that person was merely making a joke.
That said, he does come with an illness he battles – an irregular heartbeat.
While not your typical injury, we have seen an irregular heartbeat hospitalize guys like Kenley Jansen, Victor Martinez and Dusty Baker the last couple seasons.

Thanks for the clarification for me, because although I didn’t KNOW of impending TJS I thought that maybe the original poster knew info I did not.
If his misinformation was meant as a joke I fail to see any humor in it.

Because seemingly every pitcher the Angels have needs or is recovering from Tommy John, it is joke about that.
Long Duc especially likes to be the first comment in each Angels pitcher related post to make such a remark.

This is 100%, the Angels M.O.
Quality over quantity and hoping to catch lightening in a bottle. It’s been mildly successful for them so I can’t assign blame.
