The Tigers have selected the contract of infielder Harold Castro, per a club announcement. A roster spot was freed by placing injured starter Michael Fulmer on the 60-day DL.
Castro, 24, has not done much at all with the bat in the upper minors. Through 367 plate appearances this year at Double and Triple-A, he posted a .265/.283/.319 batting line with a pair of home runs and just nine walks.
Still, the Venezuelan could perhaps be a candidate to hold a 40-man spot through the winter if the Detroit organization feels he can contribute over time in a utility role. Castro has spent most of his time as a professional at second base, but has also lined up at short, third, and all three outfield positions.
As for Fulmer, the move doesn’t tell us anything new. It was already clear that he was done for the season when he underwent knee surgery yesterday.

Speaking of injured pitchers, anyone know what’s up with Grayson Long? He was outstanding in the southern league when the Tigers nabbed him for JUp and was ranked in the middle of top 30. He had thoracic outlet surgery in the spring and was supposed to be back late summer. Ther has been no news and now he’s not even ranked. He seemed like a solid bet for a 4th starter next year.

In reality it takes two years after surgery to regain the strength to play again

Thanks for the reply. The last news story after surgery said he’d be back late summer, but guess that was way off. Just curious how he’s recovering. Seemed like a solid prospect

Are turtlenecks mandatory for Detroit players?

Yeah, when player pics are taken in Michigan during certain months.

Tigers will not be exciting next year but they will have a few players who could take huge steps up: Candalario should hit 25 homers & up his average to .265 Jacoby Jones could hit 15 homers & up his average to .265 Goodrum by playing everyday could easily hit 20 homers & bat .265 & Christin Stewart could duplicate Candalario .230/.250 20/25 homers. If these guys step up they should score more runs. They had over 40 1 run games in which they lost 75% of them. Get to 50% it’s a nearly.500 team. Tigers 2020 to be over .500 seems doable!
