5 weeks in a row no answer: What are your thoughts on pitchers going to these private coaches to gain velo? Is the risk of injury not worth it for teams to have these programs?
Jeff Todd
Honestly had not seen the question. And I can’t say I know enough about it to have an informed answer, unfortunately. It is an interesting subject, but one that deserves a very well-researched and detailed treatment.

It is definitely an interesting on-going topic, and one that’s certainly gaining some popularity, especially in and around Braves’ circles.
Bryse Wilson worked with a private group this off-season, and one that apparently specializes in helping pitchers gain velocity on their FBs. Well, after the season Wilson had, especially due to his improved FB velocity and command. It certainly raises some intriguing questions.
It makes you wonder how the organization feels about this..Whether or not the Braves and that private company ever held any discussions, either before, during, or after..Whether his success will impact other pitchers seeing those specialists, especially a guy like Kolby Allard, who really needs an extra 3-4 MPH on his FB, maybe a Joey Wentz who could use the same, or younger promising prospects..
And, then, it also makes me wonder whether or not the Braves could work out an off-season deal with that company, allowing them to work with any pitchers they think could benefit from their teaching techniques..
Like you guys said, it’s definitely an interesting topic, and one that deserves a good bit of research..Or at least more research and knowledge than I’m capable of providing…lol

I’m stunned at how in the world Chris at the 3:17 mark actually thought the White Sox had a chance to get two of Harper, Machado and Arrenado this winter? Nolan obviously isn’t even available but the penny pinching south siders don’t have a shot in hell to get anyone like that is he crazy????

Just looking at the 10 top salaries in mlb… only 2 have won a world series. Cabrera as a rookie and verlander after his trade to Houston. Teams looking to add Harper and Manny beware.
