I’M ON MY WAY STEVE! I know your chats are huge and always sell out, so save me a spot! I’m stuck in traffic right now, but I’ll be there as soon as I finish three or four more things.

How about a compromise with shift. Each team allowed 3 per game. Makes it a real strategy and one that would open door for questioning managerial moves. Or not questioning. Second guessing which we as baseball fans love. Thoughts.?
ABCD
Kyle and Rizzo would like that.
Mattimeo09
How is that more of a strategy than infield/outfield moving to better spots for specific hitters?
Hitters need to learn to bunt. You can say it’s harder than it looks and I’m sure it is. But I’ve seen Roberto Perez (backup catcher, awful hitter) lay down perfect bunts against the shift and make it easily.
If he can do it, anyone can

62tonow…….Here’s a thought….it’s worked for years and years..it’s called “going the other way” as in hitting to all fields. Of course that goes against the “pull everything and hit it as hard as you can” mantra now employed but it works even in recent history.
When Ryan Howard first came up he hit to all fields, he took what was given him and all he did was win RoY then MVP. After a while he started pulling everything and his stats dwindled until he got hurt and eventually ended up useless.
Kids are taught (or at least they used to be) to go the other way, it’s not that hard and just takes practice and desire to be productive at the plate.
ABCD
Kyle is much improved hitting to the opposite field, too.

I love this site and I respect Steve’s opinion but to say bunting and going the other way no longer works because of pitching is, in my mind, a fallacy. Not every single pitcher throws 98+. Pick and chose your spots to go oppo and or bunt. Taking the stand that the only way to beat a shift is power, launch angle and hoping for the best is just drinking the Kool-Aid and giving up.
ABCD
Kyle can do that, too. 6 for 8 on bunts the last couple of years.

“Teams don’t care about ERA when trading for a pitcher?”.
Julio Teheran: Hold my cerveza.

Hey, don’t pick on Julio, he’s actually one of the few pitchers, when he’s on, that’s consistently outpitched his advanced stats..
Right now, Julio is doing a pretty solid job. He’s basically giving the Braves a quality start time in and time out, his past few starts. With Sanchez finding the fountain of youth, Folty looking like a true ACE, Newk doing a solid job, Gausman showing some positive signs, and showing the minor changes they’ve made are so far working out, AND with the phenom that is Touki Toussaint looking like a possible rotation fixture, All the Braves need from Julio, is for him to pitch well enough to give the Braves a chance to win, and keep them in the game.
Yes, he had some terrible starts before these past few starts, but he seems to he turning a corner, hopefully….maybe..possibly..hopefully..lol
Like I said, either way, with the likes of Folty, Newk, Gausman, Sanchez, and Touki on board, the Braves don’t need much from Julio..Even his 4.30 ERA here on out would be solid enough, and considering he’s basically their #5-#6 starter, I’ll take that any day from my team’s #5-#6..And even if he falters, yet again, they still have some extremely talented guys like Max Fried, Kolby Allard, and former top pick Kyle Wright all in AAA waiting for another shot to make an instant impact…
