that’s not the definition of free.

It’s free once you pay five dollars though

Sponsored posts on MLBTR are usually better than this, this one is pretty yikes.

Pay 5 dollars and get 15 for free.
JJB
And you don’t even get to “withdraw” or keep that $15 for a few months — 30, 60, 90 days or whatever. You have to keep it in your account if you don’t lose it right away.

Why is an ad displayed as a story?
Kayrall
I figured it’s probably some long term contract from back before Tim was a website mogul and understood the business.
Tim Dierkes
Nope, we don’t have a long-term contract. We have been running sponsored posts of this nature for the last seven years.
deweybelongsinthehall
I have no issues with ads at the bottom or on the side. I just don’t believe it should ve displayed as an article.

Hey Tim, can I borrow $5?

“With a first deposit of $5 or more . . . “
And why would there ever be a need for a second deposit? Guess it’s also possible to lose “shiploads” of money gambling on MLB with the DK lowlifes.
“Act quickly, this is a limited time offer!”
Credibility, so hard won yet so easily pissed away.

Majorflaw – we have had this discussion a few times and I believe we have gotten to the point of agreeing to disagreeing. I do wish, however, that you could phrase “gambling on MLB with the DK lowlifes” a little bit better. Sounds like you are lumping those of us who enjoying playing on DK with those who run the site ( technically I gamble with the other players in any particular contest). I personally don’t think the people who run the site are lowlifes but from our past discussions I can see why you would. They are many of us who play daily and are not lowlifes.

“ . . .I believe we have gotten to the point of agreeing to disagreeing.” (sic)
Not agreeing to disagree so much as recognizing that we come at this from different but not incompatible angles. I have no issue with you, all of our arguments/discussions have been completely civil and invective-free. That counts for a bunch with me. Disagree without being disagreeable and I’m fine with it.
“Sounds like you are lumping those of us who enjoy playing on DK with those who run the site . . . “
That was not my intention, riffraff. My problem is with those who own and run the DK company, not with those who choose to “play” there. It wasn’t you who flooded my MLB.com premium subscription service with ads encouraging gambling—which was then illegal in my state.
“They are many of us who play daily and are not lowlifes.”
See above. I tend not to care about what other folks are doing unless it impacts on me. Playing daily fantasy, Lotto, the “ponies”, poker (which is not and never will be a sport) or any other form of gambling is something that grownups are allowed to do. Not my thing, obviously, but playing doesn’t make one a bad person. Some of the players profiled in the book I cited seemed decent enough, as do you. My wrath is carefully targeted at those who interfered with my enjoyment of my MLB subscription.

Majorflaw – I was 99% positive you were not referring to the DK players , I just wanted to make certain lol. Perhaps “the lowlifes that run DK” can replace “the DK lowlifes” for future reference
majorflaw
“Perhaps “The lowlifes that run DK” can replace “the DK lowlifes” for future reference.”
Fair enough, and I’ll try to keep it in mind. What I should do, when I have a spare minute, is refer back to that book and call the handful who own and run DK lowlifes by name. Perhaps somebody can harass them while they’re trying to enjoy a game.

Oh come on guys. Really?
Would you rather pay a fee to use MLBTR? This is America! You are FREE to NOT do things like read obvious ad postings.
ReverieDays
How could they ever charge a fee? All they do is paraphrase other people’s hard work 90% of the time.
oogadebob
And yet here you are.
dclivejazz
Yes, really, running an ad like this disguised as news reflects poorly on the site. Why isn’t the ad running as a regular banner ad at least? If you’re OK with it, fine, but other people are also free to voice their concern.
oogadebob
I wonder how many years DK will run first deposit promos…
I’ve only seen about 2000 since I made my first deposit a few years ago.
