The Dodgers announced today that they have activated righty Josh Fields from the 60-day disabled list. To clear a 40-man roster spot, the organization designated corner infielder/outfielder Rob Segedin for assignment. Righty Yimi Garcia was optioned to open active roster space.
Fields has missed a lengthy stretch owing to shoulder issues. His return is most welcome for a Los Angeles organization that has had its share of bullpen woes. In 34 1/3 innings earlier this year, Fields worked to a 2.36 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9.
The 29-year-old Segedin, meanwhile, received brief MLB action with L.A. in each of the prior two seasons, though he was not able to match his healthy Triple-A output at the game’s highest level. This year, he has fallen well short of his usual numbers at Oklahoma City, slashing just .211/.299/.325 in 134 plate appearances.
Plan the parade…
If fields stays healthy he could low key work his way back into being a starter, which was his original position with the Astros. Reds could trade for him and see what happens
Fields has literally only started 1 game in his entire professional career, which was almost certainly a rehab assignment as it was in the minors during his rule 5 year. Hell, in his 4 years pitching at Georgia, he only started 1 game.
Funny, could have sworn he was developed as a starter. Must be thinking of another Astros pitcher.
Devinski
Even if that was true, which it isn’t, Dodgers already have like 8 starters.
This bullpen needs him badly. Hopefully he can be productive and stay healthy.
Couldn’t come at a better time. Fields has been really good this year.
Yankee organization great Rob Segedin
Wish they would have designated/waived/released (whatever you like) Pedro Baez instead
You along with many many other Dodger fans.
Baez has something dirty on Farhan/ Friedman. Only way to continue to explain his presence year after year lol
Ahhh yes comments like these. Nvm he’s been pretty darn good since coming off the DL and even if he’ll never be a back end arm, yes DFA a productive pen piece who’s starting to dot it and actually improving. Because we want to keep a platoon only player who is not great defensively just to spite Baez. Stop it. I never thought I’d come to the defense of Baez, but sometimes it gets ludicrous.
