The Athletics announced today that they have designated righty Chris Hatcher for assignment. That’ll create space for just-acquired reliever Fernando Rodney.
Meanwhile, the Oakland organization has outrighted southpaw Jeremy Bleich after he cleared waivers. Bleich had recently been designated himself.
Hatcher still works in the mid-nineties with his fastball, but he carries a 4.24 ERA with even worse peripherals on the year. He’s sitting at 7.4 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9, while generating a 7.5% swinging-strike that sits well below his recent levels.
If you want to torture Dodger fans how about trade Chris Hatcher for Pedro Baez.
A plague upon your house for even suggesting such a thing.
But Baez works for a self – appointed genius like Friedman so he must be better than Hatcher.
YAY!!!!
4.5 walks per 9 innings??? Seriously??
Chatwood said “hold my beer”
It’s funny that you mention Baez in a Hatcher story. I invented new four letter words every time Hatcher took the mound in blue. Now Baez is carrying on the tradition. Look beyond the stats and speed gun and just watch these two train wreck every 7 inning gem by a starting pitcher without recording an out.
If Beane gets ANY kind of return for Hatcher then we should put him in the HOF immediately.
Does cash considerations count in this discussion?
Been prying for this since the day the A’s picked him up. Love the Dodgers also and knew this was a match made in hell.
It all depends on how much cash you have to send with Hatcher to get that plastic bucket of sunflower seeds for the guys in the pen..
We all deserve a 2nd chance! I believe Hatcher belongs with the A’s. I hope he can stay…
In Hatcher’s case, that would be his fourth chance. For some reason, this guy has more lives than a cat.
Can’t disagree with the “belongs with the A’s” part though. If you could just keep him captive in Oakland for a little while longer, and prevent him escaping to another team, all of baseball would send you a nice card of appreciation.
How about the Dodgers also send the A’s a great arm with “electrifying stuff”. He goes by the name Pedro. Oakland Fans will love him, until he is brought into a close or tie game.
As long as Hatcher doesn’t go to the Dodgers I couldn’t care less.
