In an appearance on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM this morning (audio link), Blue Jays manager John Gibbons addressed a recent Ken Rosenthal report stating that the Jays “seem destined” for a managerial change. “That’s the reality of these jobs. Sooner or later it’s going to happen,” Gibbons said, though he didn’t believe he would be replaced anytime in the near future. As for the longer term, Gibbons raised the possibility that he might not be the best fit for a team “starting to get into a full-blown rebuild,” which could describe the Jays’ approach. “Maybe they would benefit from getting a new fresh face that could grow with the young players and things like that. I’m not so sure I want to go through one of those things, a total rebuild, but we’ll probably sit down before it’s all said and done and talk it out,” Gibbons said. The skipper’s deal runs through the 2019 season, with the Blue Jays holding a club option for 2020.
Some more rumblings from around the AL East…
- Aaron Judge was originally projected for a three-week absence after suffering a chip fracture in his wrist on July 26, though Yankees manager Aaron Boone told MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch and other media that Judge is going to need more time. Judge hasn’t yet begun swinging a bat, and an examination on Thursday revealed that the fracture still hasn’t fully healed. Once the pain subsides, Judge and the team are planning on a fairly quick return to the lineup, as Judge has been otherwise able to stay in game shape and train with the game while on the DL. Judge told Hoch and others today that he doesn’t anticipate being out of action for much longer.
- In a wide-ranging and very candid interview with MASNsports.com’s Roch Kubatko, Orioles slugger Chris Davis provides some insight into his disastrous 2018 season. Davis is struggling to a near-historic extent, hitting just .159/.242/.297 over 388 PA and posting the worst fWAR (-2.3) of any player in the league. “I’d be lying if I said the frustration and the negativity and just the overall lack of performance wasn’t weighing on me. I think it’s definitely taken a toll on me this year more than ever,” Davis said, even noting that he’d thought about quitting the game. The interview is well worth a full read, as Davis details the various tactics he and the O’s have tried to get him back on track, the extra pressure he put on himself after signing his seven-year, $161MM contract to remain in Baltimore, and his clubhouse role as one of the few veterans left after the Orioles cleaned house at the trade deadline.
- The powerhouse Red Sox roster has come at the expense of a rather depleted farm system, though president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski tells the Boston Herald’s Jason Mastrodonato that it wasn’t his intent to deal away as many prospects in Boston as he did in his previous job as the Tigers’ GM. When the White Sox approached Dombrowski about dealing Chris Sale, however, it was an opportunity Dombrowski couldn’t pass up. “The Chris Sale trade came out of the blue, because we were not anticipating the White Sox (trying) to trade him and we wanted to get involved and we traded some talent,” Dombrowski said. While Boston has dealt a lot of blue chip talent, however, it was also firm in holding onto other youngsters that the Red Sox feel are cornerstone pieces, such as Andrew Benintendi and Rafael Devers. “I don’t think it was ever tempting to trade Devers,” Dombrowski said. “People continue to ask about him a lot. But we like him a lot, same thing with Benintendi.”
loumickeyjeter
Knew when they said 3 weeks for Judge it was a long shot. He’ll be out til September for sure.
MetsYankeesRedSox
I hope he doesn’t rush back only to injure himself further. It was a bad break…no pun intended.
bravesfan88
Yeah, wrist injuries for big-time sluggers is a tricky injury.
Even when Judge feels fully healthy, and he’s able to swing a bat, etc., he’s still not going to have his full amount of power in his bat.
Freddie Freeman was able to play after suffering an injury to his wrist, and while he was still able to be effective, the injury sapped him of a lot of his power.
Judge may have to alter his approach at the plate once he returns. If not, we very well could see a lot of pop-ups, and less HR’s from the big man.
Although, even with that being said, Judge has power for days, and he also plays in a sandbox of a park..So, he still may be able to overcome losing some strength in that wrist..I guess only time can tell the tale..
joshua.barron1
So glad that they traded Moncada for sale and not Benny. White Sox fans, are you satisfied with what you’ve seen thus far? Jw
bruinsfan94 2
Moncada is still very young and they also got Koepech. Probably gonna be good for all.
ctguy
Both Moncada and Koepech will be pretty good. White Sox did fine on this trade
Willy
Not really. If you look at other big time pitchers that were traded they got a lot more in return then what Chicago got for Sale. One pitching trade to look at is the one that Atlanta made with Arizona, the DBacks paid a ton for Miller.
lovethatdirtyh20
Bruins, Kopech is the guy that will soothe the pain for WS fans. Moncada is now 23 and K’s once in every 3 AB’s or so. Looks like he was over hyped.
Phattey
Yea I’d say we’re pretty satisfied , once moncada cuts down on the strikeouts he will be a top 5 second baseman for years to come
everlastingdave
More or less. We weren’t getting better value than Moncada/ Kopech/ plus by waiting, and while I’m less high on Moncada now than I was then, he’s still got ceiling.
bradthebluefish
Moncada has all the tools except for patience. It was a good trade except that the White Sox were dumb enough to have him play in the MLB instead of AAA. They are wasting precious controllable years now.
bradthebluefish
Devers isn’t producing yet. Some key moments, sure, but lots of fielding errors too. So the questions will keep being had.
Though to be fair, Devers is young and so ironing out his flaws will be very public on the MLB stage rather than down in AAA, which he skipped.
Disco Dave
DD is a slash and burn GM and has very limited success if one weighs out cost/benefit. we do not miss him in the D. Egomaniac.
racosun
Speak for yourself. You miss Randy Smith?
dust44
Technically yes he will gut a farm. But, in Boston he has staying power because they do have substantial young hitters. Betts, Benny, Boegarts, Devers, and JBJ. Plus there’s a couple of potential starting bats he hasn’t sold yet. He def gutted the pitching prospects tho.
thegreatcerealfamine
JBJ is in no way a “substantial hitter”
User 4245925809
Isn’t that a fact. 1 guy wanted Dombrowski to seel high on both of the last 2 offseason’s before it was too late, which now it is and he supposedly always loved the guy for some reason.
Why GM’s fall in love with BJ Upton, JBJ, Heyward types that have “all the tools”, yet never put them together for a myriad of reasons is maddening here. None of those guys ever to me were worth that much as on the field talent.
thegreatcerealfamine
That kid Buxton in Minnesota seems to be the same…
jdgoat
Buxton did have it put together, last year at least. He’s battled injury and regressed this year though.
MafiaBass
I think you are greatly under estimating JP Jay’s otherworldly defense. Mookie Betts would be the centerfielder on pretty much any other team. He has two gold gloves in the toughest right field in the majors because of JBJ is so good.

Morning Pope, in a town like Boston, prospects get traded for stars, especially those on bargain contracts like Sale. How can you turn down one of the top 3 or 5 pitchers in the game?
DD was brought here to win, JH isn’t paying him to have the top rated farm, he’s paying him to win a World Series.
Sale was a no brainer trade imo, even if the prospect cost was high.
PopeMarley
The best line on prospects, prospects are just suspect until otherwise proven. Prospects are that spare change in your car, it is there when needed to complete a transaction.
lovethatdirtyh20
Pope, remember Casey Kelly? He was all world after the Sox drafted him in 2008. He was just recalled from the minors by SF.
He turned into a career minor leaguer.
When a team acquires a young player in his 20’s that’s one of the best players in the game like Sale? I don’t care what the prospect cost is.
You’re right on the money. Suspect until proven otherwise.
jintsjason
Yeah, that fifty games over .500 is a real drag. How dare he “slash and burn” our farm system for a pitcher who struck out 12 in five innings (albeit against a AA team) and has a 0.20 ERA in his last seven starts.
bradthebluefish
Chris Davis, can’t quit that money, eh? If I were Chris Davis, a multi-millionaire and not producing anymore, I’d move on after three years of sucking. Seriously. Three strikes (years) and you’re out!

Only reason I don’t want the jays to fire gibby is he is just so laid back and clearly just loves his job. That and he is probably one of the few guys that if you walked up to him on the street with a case of beer he would sit down with you and get nice and liquored
jdgoat
If he wants to stay, he deserves it for sure. He’s always ranked as a good manager and if he does end up getting canned, he’s strictly a scapegoat.
canadianyankee
That’s not a fair statement to make, in Canada if you walked up to just about anyone in the street with a case of beer your chances of sitting down and getting nice and liquored are pretty good
ellisburks
As a Canadian it would depend on the beer you were offering.
its_happening
^Burks has a point. As for Gibby, unless the Jays were prepared to hire Joe Girardi they may as well keep Gibby for another year. Eric Wedge is not the answer.
lilpartialbaldo
$92 million to go for Davis after this year. Yikes. Maybe the Orioles should offer to cut him a $50 million check right now to just go away. Maybe he’d take it.
nyy42
why?
lilpartialbaldo
Can’t figure it out, huh?
bluejays92
Why waste 92 million on a broken toy when you can get it off of your hands? Either way you’re wasting money but at least that way you’d save 42 million.
petersdylan36
But why would he take it? I would think it’s very unlikely that he could make up the rest of the 42 million in three years time.
If the worst team in all of baseball doesn’t want him, who would?
cxcx
Yeah apparently multiple people didn’t understand the “why” comment at all.
GareBear
His contract, along with 99% of all MLB deals, are fully guaranteed. Davis will force their hand to outright release him and pay the entire salary (much more likely when he’s owed almost 1M) before he would ever walk away.
jimmertee
Gibby is a great guy and okay manager. Haven’t always agreed with some of his decisions.
He is a walk, single, 3 run homer Earl Weaver style of manager. He has done his club, the city and the fans well over the years.
It is not his fault that this current BlueJays crap is going on. As called 2 years ago, the Jays rebuild is way too late. They have lost 2 years of rebuild time.
This mess squarely rests on Atkins and Shaprio. I would love to see Atkins gone.
sovtechno
They haven’t lost two years of rebuild time. I would agree with you if the team was squandering assets in order to try and compete…. but they are not. Atkins has been rebuilding for the last year. He just hasn’t admitted as much.
osonvs
I really don’t understand how people say this mess is on Shapiro/Atkins. When AA made all those trades to make the Jays competitive it was a well known fact the window of opportunity would only be 2, maybe 3 years tops. The core was aging. Atkins is not the guy responsible for Tulo and Martin’s huge contracts. Atkins did not trade away ANY prospects. Atkins is not responsible for all of the injuries we’ve seen these past couple of seasons to the core- Tulo, Donaldson, Travis, Sanchez, Stroman etc. etc. etc. I would probably say the only fault Atkins has had was trying to stretch the window 1 year too many. But even while trying to stay competitive Atkins has done a pretty good job keeping their prospects while compiling more for the future. His work is the reason the Jays have one of the top farm systems in baseball and a bright future to look forward to. But to blame the losing on Atkins is foolish. No one knew that core of the Blue Jays, which are all AA guys by the way, would either be often injured or regress so much. It’s easy to hate on the new guys when the losing starts. The hard part is identifying What went wrong. And a lot of what went wrong is really out of their hands.
BoldyMinnesota
The thing I always think about is how the fans screamed and moaned about Shatkins not signing Price or Fowler and then they’d be the exact same fans screaming and moaning if they were on the Jays putting up their current numbers. Same with EE and his production this year. The problem with those people is that Shatkins is not AA. Oh, and theyre also the ones who hated AA during the first 5 years of his tenure
its_happening
Atkins was responsible for Morales. And Granderson. And Jaime Garcia. And Estrada this year. And NOT starting the rebuild 14 months ago. A lot of money with those 4 players where 2 big signings and 2 league minimums probably do a better job. Big signings aren’t in Atkins or Shapiro’s DNA. Don’t believe me just look at Cleveland prior to 2015.
Atkins could have stretched the winning further. He chose the early 2000’s Maple Leafs approach with a few million on this vet, few million more on another. No studs. No take-no-prisoners approach. This was all a ploy to buy low, risk low, and bring the fanbase to a realization it’s time to reset.
Again, they waited 14 months beyond their expiry date.
AA is part of the mess also. Yes he emptied the cupboard to win in 2015. When it was time to win in 2014 he did nothing. 2015 was a big F-U to Shapiro and a way to keep his job while winning the PR battle in the city. No lose situation. Did AA go for it in Atlanta this year? Not really.
turner9
Jimmer. I like you and your insights as well as the inside information you provide
But please enough of this “like i called it 2 years ago”
We all got it already. You called something we all saw coming. Its been evident last year this year and next year the jays arent going to be in a playoff hunt.
But outside of that. Enjoy your comments
jimmertee
Thanks Turner appreciate the nod. FYI, I don’t remind folks for the sake of being irritating or self promoting, only that I[and others] could see this long ago and Atkins either didn;t see it or lied to the fans.
If you read other commenters some are saying it is easy to critcize with the hindsight etc. As you know, this was all called just after the ALCS appearance which means there are scouting types capable of seeing the regression of the Martins, Tulo’s etc.
It was called last year to trade Donaldson, Estrada, Happ, Smoak, etc etc all while they were healthy. What that means is the prospects they would have gotten a year ago would have accelerated this rebuild dramatically.
As far as the one commenter saying Atkins has only been doing good things. What a load of rubbish. There are so many bad moves it is scary. I won;t list them here like Latos, Bolsinger, Howell, and and and, its endless. Even the so called good moves are not.
Grichuk will not be core player on a championship team, He cannot hit a curve ball and AL teams are starting to figure it out. Diaz won’t be a core player. Sure he can hit mistakes and is dead red, but his lateral SS defence is awful. The cards moved him to 2nd for a reason. , The Jays really messed up Biagini, They are as many in the industry who call call them, “good players but not anything that is going to be core to help win a championship.”
I take my hat off to Hernandez acquisiton, even though he plays AA defence as called in spring training.
Here are some positives: Borucki[AAnth guy] will be a #2 starter eventually in this league, Stroman will settle in as a #3 starter or he can be an elite closer, which they now need; Vlad jr[AAnth Guy] will be a superstar. Gaviglio will be a #4 starter. Pannone likely a bullpen guy. Gurriel[Atkins guy], barring injury will be a borderline star.
Here is one prediction that will start being public soon. Aaron Sanchez days as a starter are done. He will be a Bullpen guy as long as he is a Jay. They cannot figure out his hand issues so the move is to put him in a less hand=stressful role in the bullpen.
turner9
At this point I’d rather see stroman and Sanchez traded for younger arms that fit better with the young core coming.
Not that either are old. Just seems to make more sense for the direction of the club. Get 2 or 3 stud under 20 pitchers for 2020 and beyond
BoldyMinnesota
Wait are you going to say that every minor move is a bad move? Litterally any depth pickup or cheap player? Because if you are, you’re going to have an awfully fun time picking through EVERY OTHER gm in the leagues minor moves. Bolsinger, Latos? Really man. You’re going to get worked up over 14 combined games between two depth guys?
It’s a good thing you weren’t around when AA was running the show. Moises Sierra, Jo-Jo Reyes, Francisco Cordero. You might have had a heart attack with the players that he put on the team.
jimmertee
The Jays could get a haul for Stroman probably not nearly as much for Sanchez.
I wonder what the Jays are going to do next year for pitching beyond the kids. Garcia was a failed experiment, I had him for 8 wins this year.
Most [all?] of their depth pitcher signingss have been busts.
its_happening
Gaviglio is a long man at best. Not a starter. He should only start if guys get hurt.
I presume guys will get hurt.
May 2017, rebuild should have begun. Not the trades, the preparation for trades leading to the trade deadline. They didn’t. That was a massive mistake by Atkins and it’s a stain on his record.
Jays haven’t had a top tier GM since Gillick. Ash was up and down, Ricciardi was one of the worst GMs during his time, AA was average and now Atkins. That also explains why the Jays have had their mediocrity for 25 years with 1 division title and 1 WC. Gillick started the downfall when he released David Wells and traded Derek Bell for Darrin Jackson within 24 hours.
Sanchez is the best starting pitcher on the staff when healthy. He needs to pee on his hands, use some magic formula or whatever is necessary to avoid blisters. Call Al Leiter. Sanchez has the stuff to be a stud. Period.
BoldyMinnesota
Damn Atkins why didn’t he blow up that team that went to the ALCS?

That best team in baseball this year so far….yes but remember, they have a penchant for being #1 one year and then in the cellar the next. Also a team in transition who’s going to lose their closer, has the highest payroll in baseball and has very little minor league talent to shore up next years weak spots..
Plus, Little Petey is probably finished which means Jack Buck is probably going to commit suicide.
No doubt they are #1 in the AL, and probably 1 or 2 in all of baseball but and this is a big but, everybody starts off the playoffs at 0-0. No guarantees they win just because of the regular season.

The R Sox may have the second worst farm–I ask how they measure that. I follow the Sox affiliates daily. They have two 3 B’s in Chavis 30 HR’s last season and Dalbec 30 this season. They have 2 good looking starters–Sharwyn and Houck who will probably be at Fenway within 2 years. A fast moving closer from TCU that was drafted in June has moved through 3 levels in 2 months; Durwin Feltman could be a Sept. call-up.
Current home grown players on the roster and producing: Benentendi, JBJ, Mookie, Devers, Bogaerts, Vazquez, Barnes,, Brian Johnson &Workman,
The purpose of the minor leagues is to teach kids and prepare them for the major leagues.
thegreatcerealfamine
Besides his glove JBJ produces what exactly?
start_wearing_purple
The glove isn’t enough? I don’t care that JBJ’s a streaky hitter who can’t reach the Mendoza Line. When you take into account the Red Sox lineup as a whole I think they can sacrifice some offense for what I can only describe as incredible defense in center.
Bruin1012
JBJ May has to be one of the unlucky hitters this year. He had a solid season at the plate in 2016 and if you look at advanced metrics his LD% is higher his GB% is lower, his FB% is higher, his soft hit % is lower and his medium and hard hit are higher. I’m not saying he is a great hitter he will always strike it too much for his hitting profile but he isn’t as bad of hitter as he has shown this year. He is somewhat unlucky this year.
Bruin1012
“His advanced metrics are better this year then 2016”
jintsjason
Currently about .325 since the start of July. But, if you don’t follow the Sox closely I could see how his .225 average is an easy target for laughs. We’ll happily take him.

Great comments. I think when they assess a farm system they should include their recent graduates as a reflection of the farm system. If the measurement included the graduates you would be hard pressed to beat the Red Sox farm system.

KD17
Farm systems exist to be depleted. The issue should be was it worth it. Sale was worth it. Even Pomerantz who hasn’t shined like expected has contributed enough to be worth it. Bragging about a farm system is something an old team needs to do. A young team like the Red Sox have depleted their higher levels to fill the gaps. It’s worked. Farm systems don’t play each other for WS rings, MLB teams do. Having a top 5 farm system and a team fighting to making the playoffs is not as good as having the number one team and less in the top tiers of your farm system. DD has used the farm system properly. It’s not supposed to be stocked all the time, it’s supposed to be stocked when you have an old team or a team with most of it’s contracts up. That’s not the case in Boston.
Most importantly, DD’s pick-ups have performed well and made the team stronger. No wasted resources sent to other teams to freeze out opponents, only needs were addressed!! Yes, the Britton trade was a complete waste of talent as a rental for a team deep in relievers. A bonehead move at the time, a bonehead move now and at the end of the year it will prove to be a bonehead move in retrospect, especially if Oakland gets the first wildcard position or both Seattle and Oakland beat out the Yankees because their starting pitching failed and one extra inning of daily relief didn’t save them..
bradthebluefish
I agree, though not extending Betts, Bogaerts, or anyone else besides Christian Vazquez (which isn’t looking so great given his lack of improvement) is troublesome once 2020 starts rolling around.
lucienbel
Agree with you entirely Brad. Seems like they still may have a chance to lock up Bogaerts if you want. After Betts most recent arbitration, he’s going to be incredibly expensive…and that’s assuming he doesn’t 100% want to test free agency at this point.
rocky7
With already the highest payroll in the majors any acquisition or arbitration loss that costs them money forces decisions about the roster makeup that could mean moving veterans. And this is a problem for a team not exactly rich in minor league talent ready for prime time. Oh I forgot, having minor league system with talent is an “old mans baseball approach”! I guess Houston, the Cubs, the Yankees and Atlanta are just suckers!
Bruin1012
The Cubs have completely depleted there farm to win as well. The Red Sox are trying to win this year and the next couple. They will be tough for the next few years. There team is very young and they will have decisions to make after next year when Bogey and Sale become free agents. There only real concern next year is there closer. This is going to be a good team for at least two or three years.
thegreatcerealfamine
I’ve been looking at the Sox farm and it’s not as bad as these guys are posting about. Then they’re shedding some payroll over the next couple seasons. Do you think Chavis or Dalbec could replace Devers at third? The Sox will still be tough in 2020…
Bruin1012
No Devers is their third baseman of the future.
KD17
Disagree. He will be there until the 50 errors a year becomes too painful to live with. Hopefully by then he will have another position where he doesn’t kill us. You and I will never agree on Devers. I can admit that he has potential as a hitter because someone can teach him discipline at the plate and he has the fundamental skills just not the brain right now to hit good pitches. At third, he could NEVER field well. He was big but not tall and too slow to play the middle infield so he was going to either be a catcher or a 3B. No soft hands, no range and a scatter arm. Not just this year but every year in the minors. The Double A coach loved him so he exaggerated his improvement. Fans want him to stay there so they exaggerate his improvement. Spent one night watching Arenado, Chapman or any other good 3B and you’ll realize just how bad he is. Heck, he made Nunez look like a gold glover while he was out simply because he played the right depth, effectively charged slow rollers and threw accurately to first. These are all things that Devers hasn’t done this year or any previous year since he was drafted.
I don’t hate Devers. I hate Devers as a 3B because he is so significantly worse than any other starter that he contributes 40% of the teams errors. Those are facts, not malice towards Devers. Nice kid with some very raw hitting talent. I don’t believe you can change his body type, improve his quickness, raise his baseball IQ and make him an accurate thrower. It’s too much to expect. If he stays with Boston and we plan on winning, he needs to be at another position! No hate just fact.
its_happening
^Reminds me of a young Edwin Encarnacion.
Can Devers play RF? Move Betts to CF? Or is Devers destined for 1B? Devers has some potential with the bat. Maybe a position change will help him thrive offensively. Certainly did with Encarnacion.
Bruin1012
Hey KD you know who else had 29 errors in there rookie season yep that’s right Adrian Beltre. I’m not saying Devers is ever going to be Beltre but you don’t just judge on errors. It is also especially a poor measure when you are talking about a 21 year old third baseman. The eye test tells me he will be fine he is way quicker then I expected him to be can get to a lot of balls definitely not a statue there and has been improving all the time. Just have to have a little patience with him. It’s obvious that the Red Sox Brass don’t agree with you and feel he is a legit third baseman that’s because he is.

A). You sound like a kid when you say that bragging about a farm system is what an old team says…..or at least a millennial approach to knowing better than anybody else.
B) The A’s aint going to get the 1st Wildcard slot.
C) You definitely sound like a Red Sox homer in your comments all.
D) You never have enough depth which is why the Yankees went after Britton….sour grapes over the Sox not having the old mans farms system in assets to compete to get him?
E) Remember your comments about Britton when Kimbrel bids farewell most likely in free agency at the end of the year because the Sox are tapped in funds with already the highest payroll in the majors.
F) Talk about Bonehead moves….how about the $millions of dollars the Sox are paying Panda, the Cuban, and other players to not be on their team.

How about Ellsbury with the Yanks this year, Not one single at bat. Bonehead move by Cashman just to keep him away from the Sox, great signing by Cashman.

Rocky you left out that the Sox reduce payroll by 47.35MM in 2019: Kimbrel 13MM, Hanley 22MM, Pomerantz 8.5 MM and Kelly 3.85 MM. Only Kimbrel needs to be replaced. Those $$$ can be used for extentions and/or arb awards.

Rocky7 – farm systems replenish major league clubs through trades or graduation. Whatever the MLB needs they either grab it from their minors or trade their minors to get it. The maturity of the major league club usually dictates how much of the minors have graduated or been traded. We have graduated Betts, Benintendi, Bradley, Devers, Bogaerts in recent years. Our SPs, like the Cubs, have mostly come through trades and free agents. This strategy has worked for the Cubs and has given the Red Sox success this year.
The Yankees have Sanchez (who lingered much longer than expected in the minors then broke out with a fury and now has sizzled a bit) Andujar (who is very similar to Devers), Torres (a Cub prospect), Bird (excellent when healthy), Judge (shockingly good player who came out of nowhere) and Severino. The reason you have a deeper minor league system isn’t because you’ve done a better job growing it internally it’s because your team performed so badly that you traded off assets to get them. So far it looks like Andujar, Judge and Severino are legitimate stars at the MLB level and possibly Sanchez if he can recover from this year. I’m not counting Torres because he’s more comparable to Kinsler or another player traded to the Red Sox, he’s not home grown.
Betts, Benintendi, Bogaerts, Devers and Bradley are guys no longer in our minors. They graduated. They are a reflection of our minor league system. I’ll take those 5 over your 4 any day.
So, if you actually understand why a farm system exists then you’ll understand why the Red Sox farm system is better than the Yankee system. Your system is about potential and ours is about results. Results leads to more rings than unrealized potential!!!
Farm systems are measured incorrectly. They should be measured by what they produced not what they might produce. Guys like Greg Amsinger get excited by how many guys are in MLB top 100 prospects from a team, I get excited about how many guys are playing on our team from our minor league system because those are the guys that win WS rings, guys who have graduated our minors.

KD17′ you left out that Moncada,Kopech, and Marjot were traded for Sale and Kimbrel. I wonder if Cashman had a “Mulligan” he would trade Andujar, Frazier and a P prospect for G. Cole?

Great assessment. I’m never a fan of rentals unless it’s cheap. A’s have been doing rentals right IMO. Dodgers and Yankees have been doing it expensively.

Bone takes 6-8 weeks to heal. Announcing it would take 3 weeks was Cashman making that fanbase believe they didn’t have to trade for another players at the deadline. Bigly mistake.
