The White Sox announced that they’ve claimed outfielder Ryan LaMarre off waivers from the Twins. LaMarre was designated for assignment by Minnesota last week when Jorge Polanco was reinstated from his suspension. The ChiSox already had two open spots on the 40-man roster, so a corresponding move isn’t required. The White Sox didn’t announce that LaMarre is going to Triple-A (though he does have minor league options remaining), so it seems he’ll join their active roster.
LaMarre, 30, batted .263/.321/.313 through 109 plate appearances as a Twin before his DFA, logging plenty of time in center field with Byron Buxton struggling to stay healthy in 2018. Though his average and OBP were respectable, LaMarre also struck out in 30.3 percent clip of his big league plate appearances. He’s capable of playing any of the three outfield positions for the Sox and can be optioned back and forth between Charlotte and Chicago as a depth piece for the remainder of the season if the Sox hang onto him.

Good luck to Ryan on the ChiSox.

Great just what Sox need another big strikeout candidate… we are apparently collecting them!!!

Hopefully he doesn’t take a single base on balls. Walks are so boring.

The White Sox don’t play a game on Monday so they won’t have to decide Ryan LaMarre’s active roster status until Tuesday. My best guess is that he will be optioned down to AAA unless Avisail Garcia needs to go on the disabled list again. Garcia left Sunday’s game against the Astros with a tight right hamstring, the same one that landed him on the DL for two months earlier this season. He will be evaluated in the next two days and LaMarre’s addition to the active roster will likely be dependant on the extent of Garcia’s injury.

Or maybe for the possibility of a Garcia trade?

My gut tells me Garcia is headed back to the DL which will all but dash his trade value and mean LaMarre will be in a White Sox uni in fairly short order. I could be wrong

Let’s hope Garcia’s hamstring injury is simply some tightness and a day-to day issue. Avi’s been on fire since returning from his extended DL stint, even better than his breakout 2017 season with his long ball production.
Of course, the White Sox also have some other OF options this summer aside from Ryan LaMarre. Nicky Delmonico is currently on a rehab assignment at AA Birmingham and could be recalled soon. Top prospect Eloy Jimenez still figures to see his MLB debut later this year once he recovers from his minor left hip abductor muscle strain in another week or so. He can then resume his final minor league stop at AAA Charlotte before arriving on the South Side sometime in August or September.

Depth maneuver. Nothing to read into. Smart move. Upgrade for the 6th, 7th wave of plans. May as well see if you cant catch lightning in a bottle so to speak. Former 2nd roumd pick. Not that the White Sox are any good at developing talent historically. Worth a shot in a development year. -Jeffrey
