Here are a few players to hit the disabled list today…
- Rangers outfielder Ryan Rua has been placed on the DL with back spasms, the club has announced; they’ve recalled center fielder Delino DeShields to take his spot on the roster. Rua’s been worse than a replacement level player this year, according to both Fangraphs and Baseball Reference, hitting a meager .194/.223/.371 across 132 plate appearances. He’s struck out in exactly a third of his plate appearances while drawing just five walks in that span.
- The Padres announced that Luis Perdomo is going back on the disabled list due to a strained right shoulder, while left-hander Jose Castillo will activated from the DL in the same transaction. Perdomo allowed six earned runs in just 2 1/3 innings in his most recent start, and the former Rule 5 Draft selection has endured an ugly season to date. The right-hander has barely averaged four innings per start, walking nearly five batters per nine innings while posting a 7.94 ERA for the Friars. It’s surely a disappointing development for a San Diego ballclub that’s been very patient with him in his development since holding him on their active roster for the entire 2016 season.
- The Indians’ outfield woes continue, with Tyler Naquin becoming the latest player to hit the disabled list. Naquin’s been dealing with a hip injury, as was earlier reported, so the official move comes as little surprise. Right-hander Adam Plutko will be recalled in his place, as tonight’s scheduled starter Mike Clevinger is dealing with a minor illness and may have to miss his start. Naquin’s been only marginally above replacement and sports a .264/.295/.356 slash line, but he was one of few options in the Tribe outfield worth playing and they’ll now likely be intensifying their search for a viable replacement for Lonnie Chisenhall.

I reckon Perdomo won’t be able to throw his glove at folk whilst he’s on the DL.

Perdomo ain’t hurt, he just sucks. He has gotten rocked all year but okay Luis. Go ice up, we will see you back in 3 weeks for your next helping.

Just like Bryan Mitchell isn’t hurt either. Just trying to hide mediocre players within the constraints of the rules since they can’t be optioned without being claimed by another organization most likely.
It’s like they feel indebted to certain players for whatever reason to not try to option them because of the struggle it took to acquire them. Mitchell being attached to Headley’s 12 million dollars, won’t allow the Padres to option him because if another team claims Bryan Mitchell they get a project for league minimum because they didn’t have to pay for Chase Headley to acquire him originally. Perdomo’s case different, he had to be hid in the bullpen as a rule V pick until really put on display as a starter last year where he flashed some good signs but was nowhere near what a big league pitcher should look like. This year has has regressed more than ever. But once again The Padres won’t cut bait guys that were brought here in an unorthodox way, regardless of how bad they are. Unfortunate.

If that was it they would have just sent Perdomo down. He isn’t out of options like Mitchell.

Preller doesn’t like egg on his face. He hides/keeps his mistakes. Packaging all those young players for Archer is nuts. Send Myers back to TB….wishful thinking admittedly.
sufferforsnakes
Could he send Myers to Cleveland, instead?
The-Beast
That would be a “duh” move. So it’s definitely less likely to happen. If it did probably require Mckenzie + Valera as a return since you could prorate Myers massive backend over total control $14.5/y.
sufferforsnakes
That’s insane. Not getting those two for him.

Padres homers continue to come up with the most ridiculous valuations and proposals.

The cord on Mitchell should have been cut months ago. But nope the lingering stench of Headley will remain.
He doesn’t want to admit the mistake with Perdomo and just finally DFA’ing him, getting him to the appropriate level and letting him develop. It’s abuse at this point, the kid had never pitched above A ball prior to 2016, the Padres take him and take a big chance in which has he developed? Yeah for sure. But not enough to be a consistent major league pitcher yet.
Get him off the 40 man roster so you can tinker with him, try him in relief, do some different things with him in AA or something, don’t continue to throw him out there expecting different results.
RedRooster
They don’t need to DFA Perdomo to do that. He has all his options remaining.
bleacherbum
But to gain a precious 40 man spot they do, for someone who is actually going to deserve it. Like Paddack, Urias, Espinoza, Wingenter, all prior to the rule V draft in 4 months. I would rather experiment with Perdomo way outside of the plans until he can figure it out. Too many arms we still need to get a look at.

If he does that people will call for his head

Preller is mush. Everything he touches as far as trades, free agents, $ contract to Myers.

Watching Padres game live….Maton…another teachers pet….preller has rushed him through the system and the kid doesn’t have big league stuff…can’t throw above 92…no secondary…no wipe out pitch…he gets drilled every time I see him…but they won’t send him back to AAA where he belongs. He just blew the game!
sammysosa
dude has a sub 3 era and one of the best curveballs in the system. you sir, don’t know wtf you are talking about
bleacherbum
Yeah Maton has actually been pretty good this year so far, but what else is new a potential trade chip Kirby Yates thrown into a tie game with runners on first and third and 1 out in the bottom of the 9th? What!!!!!! Andy Green.. what are you thinking dude, miss-using Yates just like the did with Hand. Why are you bringing in the closer with 1 out in the 8th and a tie game! Like that’s absolutely disgusting miss-management, its just so bad.
sammysosa
he brought in his best pitcher in at the most critical part of the game. i don’t see how that’s miss management.
