5:26pm: It “looks like the Machado trade to the Dodgers will go through,” tweets Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com. Barring any last-minute hiccups (Kubatko notes that there are some “final points to review”), Orioles will indeed get five players back in the deal. He goes on to say that the medical concerns that appeared to be holding up the deal earlier have been “all but addressed”, noting that they were not a deal-breaker for the Orioles.
Likewise, Jim Bowden of ESPN tweets that the Machado deal should be officially completed this evening. A source close to the transaction tells Bowden that the medicals are “no longer an issue”, and confirms that Diaz is still the headliner in the package.
That said, it’s important to note that the trade is not yet official. As J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group points out on Twitter, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes’ lineup card for this evening shows Gavin Lux as the leadoff hitter, while fellow Machado-package prospect Dustin May is listed as the starting pitcher.
3:41pm: There’s a “possible snag” in the reported agreement between the Dodgers and Orioles that would send star infielder Manny Machado out west, according to Steve Phillips of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM (via Twitter). Precise details aren’t known, but it seems that some concerns arose in the physicals of the prospects that would go to Baltimore in the swap.
That said, the new wrinkle doesn’t by any means preclude the deal from ultimately being tweaked and coming together. Fancred’s Jon Heyman tweets that the holdup doesn’t involve outfielder Yusniel Diaz, the centerpiece of the return going to Baltimore. Rather, it’s an issue with a more “complementary” piece, per Heyman, which creates more optimism that the trade will ultimately be agreed upon and pushed through as had been widely reported.
While all indications are that the two organizations came together for an All-Star Game deal involving Machado, there has, of course, yet to be any formal announcement. And many have cautioned not to assume anything until all the boxes are checked. The Orioles, after all, have blown up several deals — trades and free-agent agreements — over issues identified in physicals. Baltimore’s medical medical standards are notoriously stingy, and today’s reports only serve as the latest entry in a fairly lengthy history of such hiccups.
If the snag ultimately proves to be insurmountable, then it could be that the Machado situation will return to the forefront of the trade deadline market development. It has seemed for several days that Machado would head out of the All-Star break in a different uniform, leaving about two weeks for other movement to occur. That doesn’t appear quite as certain now, though, which means that clubs who’d believed themselves to be runners up will likely hold off on making other deals.
To that end, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweeted last night that the Brewers’ offer was considered by the Orioles to be the second-strongest proposal they received. The Phillies, Diamondbacks, Yankees and Indians are among the other teams that were prominently connected to Machado.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Good for the O’s for doing their due diligence.
Hopefully, it fails and O’s get nothing and Machado leaves them end of the year.
There’ your competent management.
You seem nice.
Yeah I agree, the o’s always do this. Can’t be every major signing and trade gets nixed because of physicals. It’s why they’ll be mediocre at best
The O’s always do this? 4 players have failed Orioles physicals. Balfour, Colvin, Pagan and Gallardo. They saved over $10 million on Gallardo and the other players only Balfour played after the failed physical (2 more seasons). Pagan and Colvin didn’t play again at all.
I’d love it
Name the last time they’ve been wrong after nixing a signing or trade because of physical issues……
Don’t forget Markakis and the Moran/Britton deal last year…..there has to be that one exec in the Orioles FO……he needs to go
Markakis has an injured neck and we said we couldn’t offer him a contract due to those issues and let him go…where was he last night…Uh, The All Star Game, our doctors are quacks
Hahaha, yeah good call on Markakis
If it fails, then the Orioles will turn to one of the other four teams that made serious proposals. You’re a tool. Not even a good tool like a socket wrench. You’re like a hex wrench in a package of DIY furniture from Walmart.
Wow that comment really came outta nowhere. Are you currently assembling furniture by some chance?
Nick Markakis WAR at $11 mill per year in ATL so the first 3 years of value were all below his salary.
2015 1.0
2016 1.0
2017 0.0
2018 2.7
I doubt teams are willing to put their best prospects through a medical with another team’s doctors, if there’s a 50/50 chance that the trade isn’t happening.
Balfour pitched through injuries in a poor 2014 season and then retired after 6 games in 2015 because of, wait for it, injuries.
What’s his stats compared to any Oriole that has tried to fill his shoes in right field since…WAR, give me a break another stat…sometimes leadership, reliability and consistency is more important than a stat
Because the Braves and their fans were so thrilled with Markakis the last 3 years….Funny how things change.
Hahaha. That’s funny. But that hex wrench has at least one use. Maybe a hex wrench with rounded corners? I’m thinking a cordless impact with no battery. That is a useless tool.
Expect this happens with the O’s every time they work a trade.
you guys are both wrong but come on, saying maybe a top 15? nobody is going to take you seriously if you go really extreme to make a point. if we include defense and not just go off fantasy numbers than its safe to say that lindor, correa, seager, trea turner, bogarets, and maybe even brandon crawford might all be better all around shortstops than machado but he is much closer to being a top 3 shortstop than he is a top 15. i would love for you to name a dozen shortstops who are all around better. i named 5, i could maybe let trevor story, didi gregorious, jean segura, darby swanson, addison russell and the great defensive shortstop on the angels im drawing a blank on all slide but after that your getting into the names of alcides escobar and tim anderson and company
Was curious to find out how many times #Orioles have nixed players due to physicals and the results were alarming and giving me pause to whether the Machado trade will actually happen? #Dodgers article from 2016
fangraphs.com/blogs/its-time-to-talk-about-the-ori…
This article doesn’t even include the botched Moran/Britton trade from the Astros last year
Interesting article, a couple of years old though and it doesn’t conclude that the Orioles are significantly more likely to not clear a player through medicals, only that they have a reputation for looking harder at them.
The player (more likely players) who failed the physical in the Britton deal aren’t known publicly, so we really don’t know if the deal was “botched” or if the O’s had legitimate concerns–as they have have had in practically every other case..
There are easily 10 better defensive SS in the league now. What makes him top 5 is his bat so don’t think for one moment that his desire to play SS over 3b is better for the team. Its better only for him because he wants to go down in history as one of the best SS ever. Derek Jeter was an average fielder with an average arm what made him top 5 and HOF was his bat. Ripken’s final years were embarrassing at SS and his bat finally went away but they kept him there day after day. He made All Star games with a .220 batting average. Baltimore has a history of doing things the most backward ass ways and this is why they sit at the bottom of American League East with no hope of leaving the bottom tier anytime soon. Just think about it, for the next 5 years do you have any hope of making the playoffs? NOT A CHANCE IN HAITI! Horrible farm system, horrible management team, stubborn owner. He should sell the team to give you all hope because its bad and can only get worse.
You better fact check your Ripken and Jeter stats.
“The player (more likely players) who failed the physical in the Britton deal aren’t known publicly, so we really don’t know if the deal was “botched” or if the O’s had legitimate concerns–as they have have had in practically every other case..”
Read the article….
I did read the article, hence my comment. In the end their conclusion was, “Maybe the reputation makes the Orioles a few percentage points less likely to sign a given free agent.” And as you quoted yourself, “we really don’t know.” Nothing to take to the bank, that’s for sure.
That quote was from gelantinoscube, hence the read the article comment
Huh? I read the article you linked. It seemed entirely inconclusive on the main point of whether the Orioles are nixing trades due to medicals significantly more often than other teams (more scrutiny not withstanding). You seem to have found something in it that I missed, so why not cut to the quick and tell me what it is?
Orioles are infamous for that “due diligence.”
I’ll give the Orioles credit for Grant Balfour (at the time O’s widely ridiculed for having failed physical)
But Grant Balfour was not a prospect back then.
You are really delusional if you think this is Baltimore doing Due Diligence. Every trade they try to make they mysteriously come up with medical issues of the prospects. This has been happening for years & I don’t understand how you O’s fans can continue to take this crap. They should have traded him two years ago when it became obvious that they were not going to extend him. Of course he was not going to sign with you all in Free Agency and it was obvious two years ago you could to compete with Boston and NYY so you wasted a great talent, didn’t trade him for top value and now with the last chance to salvage anything, you are going to blow the trade for “medical issues”. JUST PLAIN DUMB!
I think everyone saw this coming lol
Who’s shocked…….? Not me!
I think the Brewers dodged a bullet..that’s not the kind of trade that Sterns promised us. I believe he said “no rentals, only controllable players” with the goal of building a consistent contender. I don’t mind moving some prospects but a bidding war for a 2½ month hitter isn’t my ideas odd a good idea. Often the best auctions are the ones you lose.
+1 Tim Newport. On Wisconsin…
I’m shocked it took this long. does that count?
Giants, Rockies, and DBacks Fans now have a reason to keep living
Yeah, the Dodgers getting the best player on the worst team in the league was really scaring us.
Ignorance at its finest lol
Okay, so I didn’t agree that fans of three teams shouldn’t commit mass suicide because of one player and I’M wrong? It’s one guy. He is not going to guarantee the division title. Mike Trout is the best player in the game and has been to the playoffs once. This isn’t basketball.
He’s either the best or second best shortstop in the league. What on Earth are you babbling about?
based on what? defense? cause he’s the worst when it comes to defense.
If you don’t think Machado is a top 2-3 SS in the game overall you shouldn’t be watching baseball.
Do you watch him play SS? One series I watched of him in Boston, and he looked completely lost. So top 2-3, no, top 15, maybe
Top 15? I say this as nicely as possible…are you drunk?
Better SS than Machado:
1. Carlos Correa
2. Francisco Lindor
3. Andrelton Simmons
4. Corey Seager
Bdallen What are you smoking crack?
Simmons who has proven it one year offensively and Seager can’t even stay on the field.
I agree with this. I actually think that Machado is like the 9th or 10th best in the entire league at SS. Now 3rd base, that’s a different story. That’s the only red flag I’ve seen about Machado and his determination to call himself “a shortstop” He’s not. He’s a 3rd baseman and a damn good one too.
your crazy. but ill rattle off some names. correa, lindor, seager, crawford, story, simmons, trea turner, segura, didi gregorious, bogarets, swanson, addison russell. because defense from a shortstop is soooo important you may very well have to put simmons and crawford ahead of machado but he is still top 10
Machado is not a SS anymore, those days have passed. He should be playing third, but the Dodgers need a SS. He has the worst defensive metrics in baseball with less than Jeter range.
5) Al Weis
defense is important, but not to the point where it completely overrides his contributions on offense, which judging by some of the names you listed you seem to think it does
Seager has had one injury, a TJ situation, which takes a year to heal, so….
Please get up to date.. look at Simmons’ offensive numbers last year.. and THIS year as well
And him being that good has led his team to a .250 winning percentage. So what does it matter?
Going back to 2017. The best SS are as followed and in order
Lindor
Simmons
Gregorius
Bogaerts
Machado
Your opinion. Personally I would have Correa on there and Trevor Story is much more than a Coors Field guy as well, although I probably wouldn’t have him top 5 it would be close. I do agree that Lindor should be #1 though.
Dream Big!
Shocking.
Baltimore always got medical issues. Jesus christ
Yup, and is always proven right.
Nope, but you will always be losers. Good luck
And well they should; they’re very smart about this.
Like clockwork…
It ain’t over til the fat lady sings!
Hey now, Kyle Schwarber’s mom is a user on here. That’s just not nice.
Yours is juvenile.
I have laryngitis right now.
You mean it’s not over til the fat lady passes her physical.
Figures
Saw this coming…the Orioles can’t do anything right!
The Dodgers are the ones with the prospects showing problems with the physicals
Orioles are only sending Manny
water is wet
So is your Mom
my mom is dead
lol
Welp, there’s that. Again.
Here we go again. Typical Orioles.
Would be funny if it was the Dodgers.
Even though it clearly says the issue is on the O’s side with the prospects.
Staxxxx that would be funny
It would be
Cashman get off your a** and get this deal done.. You screwed up by not getting a deal done last week, don’t screw up and letting him go again..
And for all the people saying don’t trade prospects for a rental.. They can flip Andujar for a young SP.. Are the yankees better with Machado and a young SP or Andujar and Happ or Hamels.. Ill go with machado and a young SP
This year yes. Why trade Andujar who’s an all star 3B in the future for 2 months of Manny. Did you see what the Dodgers were giving up? Nowhere near a player of Andujar’s talent. They were giving up one top 100 prospect that’s it
Andujar isn’t a very good 3rd basemen when it comes to defense. In fact, he’s one of the worse. On plays that 3rd basemen make 40-60%, Andujar had made ZERO % up to last week.
Where did you pull these numbers from? Space?
Fangraphs
This is silly. Have you even compared Andujars AAA stats to Diaz? Andujar was the 60th best prospect before this season and Diaz is in that range.
Diaz was upgraded to 31 in the BP mid season report.
Even May is a top 70 prospect this preseason and probably lower now due to his success this season.
MLB.com has May outside the top 100 and Diaz 87
What report? I saw mlb had him at 83
Diaz is up to 47 on midseason top 100,,,,,dont know about May
Yea, let’s complain about Cashman. The guy who turned two completely disposable relievers into Torres and Frazier somehow.
You mean Frazier that they’re currently destroying by calling up and sending down a week later. Im not bashing Cashman, he is a great GM.. But Machado would really help this team. He is a better bat and defense compared to Andujar. This team needs pitching and I think theres a better chance to get a better pitcher than Happ or Hamels with Andujar in the deal .
I’m a yankee fan and it’s comments like this that make the rest of us look bad. Why would the yanks trade Andújar for a rental? And what makes you so sure they can flip Machado for a “young” SP? Yeah Miggy isn’t the best defender but he’s not hurting the Yanks and his offense is above average. You’re a clown. Cashman has made great deals, trust the process
I think you should learn to read. I never said they’re trading Andujar for a rental or Machado for a SP.
But thanks for showing that you’re the real clown here.
Go away dude. Cashman has done a phenomenal job and Machado is not going to solve the yankees rotation problems this season. There’s a very good chance he signs in the offseason anyway
You screwed up by getting mad at Cashman.
Machado is not what they need. If Machado’s price drops and he falls into their lap the way Stanton did, fine, but I would not give up anything of serious value if I were the Yankees. Andujar and Didi are doing well enough at 3rd and SS.
As for “are the yankees better with…” you’re asking the wrong question.
The real question is:
Are the Yankees better off trading Andujar for a strong SP or for Machado? That question is pretty easily answered. Because to land Machado right now, it would likely take the same kind of prospects they would use for a starter.
Time for the Brewers to strike!
No no no….
seriously, who didn’t see this one coming?
Shocker!
TYPICAL ORIOLEZ LOLZ!!!!!
Wait, their strict physical requirements have never been proven to be wrong? Huh.
Wonder what Casey’s Partner will think of this.
hot take incoming….
I swear the Orioles are trying to become a meme.
This is surprising to absolutely nobody
notoriously stingy? That’s putting it mildly.
The tired phrase rings true – “The Orioles gonna Oriole”
I know, right? Those dumb Orioles and their wanting healthy players!
Oh please. I’m an orioles fan and can see the ridiculousness of their medical examinations. No other team in the majors is this hung up on it.
Stop, this isn’t picking the perfect apple out of a basket of 200. This is a very limited business and market. You have perhaps anywhere from 4-6 suitors, probably 3 or 4 that are ideal so you take the best of that or what you can get and move on.
I gotta agree, the O’s seem to go over the top with medical reviews and fits the Angelo’s mold of greed/ which in term has really hurt that team
its their master plan to keep the trade rumors going.
Somebody called this a few days ago in the comment section. Props to them.
Indeed they did.
Many people called it, because the Orioles have nixed trades due to “failed physicals” so much that it’s become a joke.
I knew it
If the other team gave them $15 million in cash Baltimore would have issues with medicals.
I didn’t know you can nix trades because some prospect has a strawberry? Orioles are rediculous…..its a poor tactic in trying to get a better haul
The Orioles are such a poorly run franchise
Exactly, they should just automatically approve all deals regardless of potential injuries! That’s what all the good franchises do.
The problem is how common it is with them. Its all the time- no other franchise is so high maintenance with it. Add this to all of the other stupid crap Angelos likes to do and you have a fun commrnt section
holding up a franchise altering trade over a secondary piece isn’t good. You’ve had months to pull the trigger. Just take another 4th best piece. Plus it wouldn’t be the first time they were wrong on a one of their medical tirades.
Plus they refuse to use the international market and wonder why they have had one great player they actually drafted in the last what.. decade?
Please tell me all the other times they were wrong about medicals. And PROVABLY wrong, not speculatively.
When’s the last time they’ve had a player relevant enough to bring back a decent return from a trade?
Britton, Machado and Jones…2 years ago when they had more value.
You mean 2016 when we were in the playoffs?
With not even getting into the medical exams they are still a poorly run franchise.
Was it the “Can’t lift an entire 18 wheeler” clause?
Or the “Can’t read a physician’s handwriting” that was the problem?
Of course there’s a snag.
Dustin May probably sneezed during the physical, and that was the end of that.
I guess the turn your head and cough method didn’t sit right with the Orioles phsyicans
Sanchez would never get through that medical staff.
I’m guessing that May wasn’t included in the package, and the “failed physical” will be attached to the pitcher the Dodgers included in lieu of May, leading the Orioles to insist on May’s inclusion to save the deal from collapse.
Maybe one of the Dodgers prospects has elephantitus of the nuts……when they told him to cough, Doc got frightened and failed his physical?
Are the Orioles physicals performed by Dr Zoidberg?
Mengele
Thought he was with the twins, joking of course
Yet they signed Alex Cobb who is been pitching like he is still injured the whole season.
MLB is aware of this in Baltimore as well as all the teams. Why try and deal with them. Let them sit with Machado til end of year and get nothing in return. No team should deal with them.
Everyone keeps saying “perfect time for xyz team to jump in and grab him” yet fail to realize this is standard operating procedure for this joke of a baseball organization. They’re either or dumb or dense, but likely both. Take what you can get man. Jeez Louise. You have a superstar player on the worst team in baseball who is out of contract in just 3 months. You’re getting quantity and it’s already a given that 2/3 of the prospects you get probably won’t work out, but that’s just because that’s the average for the game. Prospects miss or get hurt. Take what you can get. Don’t mess this up. It’s almost like the Orioles don’t baseball. SMH
Reply to myself (or edit), they’re treating this like this trade will pave the way for generations of success in Baltimore. No, dopey. You need to make like 10 of these trades to get Baltimore in the right direction, but you have to start somewhere.
So you’re saying Baltimore should assume more risk?
lmao this was probably predicted by everyone I would be surprised if a deal didn’t get done though. However, if it doesn’t Cashman you got a 2nd chance make it count the pitching is looking available is not looking so good. TIME TO WIN NOW don’t hold guys who are blocked for 5 years
didn’t mean to say looking twice
MLB is aware of Baltimore’s past history rejecting deals (which is their right) but I wouldn’t deal with them and let them sit and not get anything for any of their players.
Said its not with the main center piece though. So no one else will anti up a top 4 prospect dodgers still gonna get him its just a matter of what else goes with him.
The Orioles medical offices…the place where deals go to die.
“The Orioles medical offices…the place where deals go to die”…..
Kind of reminds me of that documentary series on HBO “Autopsy”.
Is it possible one of the dodgers prospects found out he was being traded to the orioles and threw himself down a flight of stairs?
ouch! that would explain the many failed physicals part of the process.
I think he’s onto something
Orioles gonna Oriole. The real news will be the one time they complete a trade or a signing without some kind of snag.
“Hahaha! Terrific!” – Grant Balfour, on a couch somewhere, dreaming about yelling at Victor Martinez some more
That’s so Orioles.
This would be one of the highest profile trades to never happen if it falls through.
To be fair, o’s haven’t always been wrong with this stuff. Same thing happened with Grant Balfour and he was pretty terrible.
Omg please just make the deal so the trading all around the league can get started
I hope the medical reason isn’t due to Machado’s bad taste in clothes on the red carpet.
This is all SOP for O’s and a couple of other teams. I doubt there is a professional baseball player, or college, or high school player who does not have some type of injury that will be found in medical history or examination. The O’s know this and it is in its negotiating playbook how to use that information and attempt to extract additional consideration from teams. Fortunately EVERY other MLB team knows this so negotiates with those teams accordingly.
I just want to know what the Orioles medical staff require that causes so many failed trades regarding other players that most other organizations don’t seem to have an issue with?
you’d think by them doing this they’d be filling their roster with top notch talent.
doesn’t every trade to Baltimore have medical issues
Name 3 failed trades in the last 10 years, Britton to Hou last year and ….?
shocker!
Assuming the deal is done, How close to MLB ready is Diaz? I know he’s only played at AA so far.
MLBPipeline says 2019 ETA
Probably sometime in May/June next season when the Os will want to get an extra season for him but also avoid super 2 status as well.
I think he will play for O’s no later than September and be a starting OF’er in 2019
Should have seen this one coming with BAL’s history. Can’t blame them though.
Because the Orioles.
geez. this deal may fall apart. the orioles lol
Orioles deserve a lot of grief. But not on this issue. Yes they are strict on their medicals. But when have they been wrong and been burned? Machado is their only big piece that can pull a major prospect haul so they have to get this right. Furthermore, I’m certain lots of other clubs run into snags in completing trades due to physicals as well. The O’s just seem to get their information leaked to the media more.
I don’t think the Orioles have ever been wrong when finding a physical issue with a player. I don’t get all the hysteria when they’re doing their due diligence.
Let’s be real here, the O’s have been wrong more than right in everything they do. They should have extended Machado years ago instead of giving Davis that contract.
Nick Markakis?
They were right. The injury existed.
Well how much of an issue was it? He’s been nothing but the player he was on the Orioles, if not better. They’ve missed markakis since he’s left.
We also don’t know about the others that were nixed. And there’s also the very real chance that they over analyze and ruin deals that everybody else would make.
Typical O’s Deal ! Other Teams should Boycott ever dealing with them !!!
Cubbies just got Machado for Penilla, Elia, and Bowa, just waiting on Penilla medicals, Baltimores owner said if these 3 guys can’t kick my Gms ass I’m selling the team
Dodgers are a buncha weasels.
Turner, Taylor, Muncy, spy 🙂
A leCarre reference. Well done!
Won’t draft international players via international drafting period but will trade for them later?
There is no international draft.
So id guess youd rather have x oriole player is out all of two seasons due to tommy john surgery. must be fun.
and that padre trade to the marlins must have been overblown for all of you? player was injured, who cares, right?
Surprised to see that the Phillies don’t even have the next best offer. I feel like the Orioles are just begging the Phillies to up their offer, probably trying to hose the Phillies. Or maybe the Phillies never put in that good of an offer. Maybe they’re not serious about adding Machado
I think they want him, but know where to stop. They know they have as good a chance as anyone once he reaches free agency and aren’t willing to give up the farm for 2 months
Yeah your right. This is all about trying to get the Phillies to up their offer. You also probably think the song “You’re So Vain” is about the Phillies too.
I can’t help it if the Phillies are the center of the MLB universe
I think the orioles do this because they like the attention. They have the entire baseball world talking about one of the worst teams in the past decade. That’s brilliant marketing right there. What’s that old saying? There’s no such thing as bad publicity. The Orioles are geniuses at that.
hahahahahahaha great take
I hate the Orioles FO, so much. They should have got 3 pitchers for Manny to begin with, now their stupid medical team gets in the way again.
(I like the team though, iconic name/colors/franchise players etc, I don’t have anything against any of the their players, other than they’re almost all the wrong players who should be on the team)
If the O’s medical staff were wrong about any of the players they turned down for medical reasons then this would be laughable. As it is, its just expected. This deal will get done by the end of the day.
Can’t wait till Baltimore gets DNA test results!
23 and me
Maybe it’s just that the players don’t want to play for the poorly run Orioles so they make up an injury to avoid being traded
I can only imagine your frustration; but, I think this will get worked out. It’s probably a pitcher (Dustin May) and the Dodgers will end up allowing the O’s to select another pitcher (Ferguson, Kremer, Cooper). Diaz could be a very solid corner outfielder. I do hope it works out for the sake of the O’s fans. If its not the Dodgers, another team will come through with a decent package. Machado is a tremendous talent and he needs bring a player(s) that will meaningfully contribute in the future.
Appears it already has been worked out. See the most recent update.
Have the O’s ever missed on one of the players they turned down for medical reasons? Let me ask that another way, have any of the players they turned down ever not had a major injury?
In all seriousness, how many outfielders do the Orioles need?
Austin Hays was supposed to be pretty good and a possible starting right fielder for years to come and now the O’s trade for a RF’er?
SMH
Also, I am not surprised about the medicals, but I am glad it’s almost over
Baltimore needs everything.
Yeah!!!! At least one more day of inane MM trade speculation!!! Yippee!
Browns, Kings, Senators, Orioles
There is certainly hypocrisy regarding medicals – there are a huge number of people saying “Oh, BAL needs to just do it, stop being difficult”, but then when something like the SD-BOS trade/injury fallout happens, people are quick to jump on the fact that there were injuries hidden deliberately, how the Padres were dodgy and how Boston didn’t pick up on the problems.
Well, here’s a Team that is picking up on problems.
Absolutely no one burying Baltimore here, will be here putting their hand up when one of those players ends up on the sideline and saying “Oh, they were probably right to have reservations”.
And it’s not like Baltimore hasn’t been right before. Terrible organization, terribly run – but they have hit the nail regarding injuries.
It’s cool to make fun of them, but that’s just people getting their kicks on an easy target.
Orioles have one of the most stringent medical exams in the league. That is their prerogative. There is no guarantee that the next package down from the Dodgers would pass medical muster. At the end of the day, the team needs to get more for Manny than a draft pick when he’s out the door.
