The Mariners announced today that they’ve placed lefty James Paxton on the 10-day DL due to lower back inflammation and selected the contract of righty Mike Morin from Triple-A Tacoma. The Mariners also optioned Gordon Beckham and Nick Rumbelow to Triple-A, recalling righties Christian Bergman and Casey Lawrence to fill those roster spots.
Luckily for the M’s, the Paxton injury isn’t serious. GM Jerry Dipoto told Joel Sherman of the New York Post earlier today, even, that the plan is to utilize the All-Star break to get Paxton some extra rest after back discomfort forced him from last night’s game in the first inning (Twitter link). He’s scheduled to start the Mariners’ fourth game of the second half, so it seems this is somewhat of a procedural move to get some additional fresh arms in the ’pen.
Morin, 27, saw two games of action earlier in the season with Seattle before being outrighted off of the 40-man. He has spent the bulk of the season at Triple-A, where he owns a 3.60 ERA over 35 frames with an appealing blend of 9.3 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9. Over 172 career innings in the bigs, Morin carries a 4.60 ERA.

The injuries with this guy. So much talent but no health.

He’s missing one start, chill out. Lol

I believe he’s referring to his career as a whole, not this specific DL.
ThePriceWasRight
or maybe they should have realized his injury history and not pushed him up a day. was no point to that.

It’s not like it was short rest. They had Monday off.

Good news for my fantasy team since I just lost Richards all year.

This shouldn’t impact your fantasy team at all. He is just being pushed out one day for his start next week so he can start the Friday game against the Astros. Aside from going only 2 innings yesterday, he’s not missing any time with the break.

It doesn’t seem all that odd anymore for a pitcher they are stretching out from the minors to the majors to have a couple years of injuries. Then they take off and leave the little nagging injuries behind. They are more careful with them so anything that is out of the normal they go on the DL. Just to be safe. They also use some fake injuries to cut down on innings use. They might want him to pitch say 129 innings but do some of those late in the season when there is a possible chance for a playoff push. To see how he performs in that environment. I don’t think all these injuries are true injuries but little owies they could pitch after missing a day or two in the rotation or maybe not miss time at all. The one for Paxton and Felix came at a perfect time. They both had the AS game squeezed in there so they had a little extra rest to help them and the team out.
