11:54pm: Morosi has now reversed his report, tweeting that a deal is in fact “not close.” He does note on Twitter that the Chicago organization remains involved in talks for Ziegler.
11:48pm: The Cubs are close to reaching agreement on a deal to bring veteran Marlins reliever Brad Ziegler to Wrigley, according to Jon Morosi of MLB.com (via Twitter). Details of the prospective arrangement remain unknown.
While the Chicago organization has already acted to bolster its relief unit, adding swingman Jesse Chavez, it obviously feels it could still stand to improve. The Cubs have been tied to a variety of names in recent weeks, including Ziegler.

They need someone to strike out the boatload of Brewers hitters that strikeout excessively.

Were they not after Hand? This is your Plan B?

Gotta play the hand your dealt
Djones246890
I’ve got to hand it to Theo. He’s really playing his hand well. We should all give him a hand. I bet their will be another deal before the stroke of 4:00pm.
justinept
Never realistically after Hand. When you see what the Indians gave up for him, the Cubs never could’ve been considered serious contenders. They don’t have a top 50 prospect and they weren’t trading off their ML roster for a reliever.

The Cubs were not in on Hand

Zieglers stats have been good lately. Plus he probably wont cost much. But I could be wrong seeing as what the twins got for lance lynn

I guess he’s a slight improvement over Duensing? That being said, just about everybody is this year, so that’s not saying much. Ziegler isn’t very good.
pageian
He’s given up like 3 runs combined the last two months. Not so bad….

Cubs have four lefties in their rotation. Submariners like Ziegler and Cishek are tough on righties due to the angle they come from, and they are also both high groundball % pitchers. With all the lefties, teams will be right handed heavy in their lineups, this could make another team run through their bench quickly.

Brewers struggle against him. Might be a good move. Not that there are a ton against the division rivals.

Cubs aren’t making moves worrying about Milwaukee, they’re worried about the playoffs vs LA, ‘zona, Philly & Atlanta.
