The Athletics have selected the contract of lefty Jeremy Bleich, per a club announcement. To open a 40-man spot, the club shifted Andrew Triggs to the 60-day DL.
This move is ten years in the making for Bleich, a 2008 sandwich round pick who has never yet seen the majors. Persistence paid off for the Stanford product, who was selected by the Yankees and has also spent time in the Pirates, Phillies, and Dodgers organizations.
Now 31 years of age, the southpaw has turned in a solid showing this year at Triple-A. Through 39 innings in 27 outings, he owns a 3.00 ERA with 8.8 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9. While he has been tagged by right-handed hitters, Bleich has held opposing southpaws to a .200/.224/.291 slash.

I always respect guys who stick with it, follow their dream, and ultimately see it through.

Me too…my favorite is when John Lindsey played in the minors for 15 years or so before he debuted with the Dodgers a few years ago. I love it.

A’s go all in:
Sign Lowrie to a 2/20 deal, Davis to 3/30, Olson to 7/70.
A’s get: Syndergaard, Cespedes (taking all his contract), Familia
Mets get: Mateo, Howard, Dunshee, Dull, E White, out from whats left of Cespedes contract (2/58+whatever is left of 2018)
A’s get a heavily-injured possible ace in Thor, and a Familia rental in exchange for taking over $60M off the Mets very cheap hands. Return is pretty competitive considering the risk taken on, but this is a great win-now move for Oakland.
A’s get: Realmuto
Marlins get: Barreto, Luzardo, Murphy, Lucroy
Luzardo is a very ready-now SP who is a local guy with a tragedy the whole community has been behind the Marlins can probably put into the rotation immediately. They get a rental in Lucroy and also their future C and 2B in Murphy and Barreto. A’s contention window is open as of now, so they need Realmuto (the best C in MLB) the most.
If the A’s can pull these very-feasible trades, off they will have done a tremendous job.

Those extensions seem fairly reasonable, although Davis will probably cost a little more and I don’t think Olson would cost that much if he’s willing to sign an extension as a pre-arb guy. The Lowrie deal seems reasonable for both sides though.
Even taking Cespedes and his contract, that doesn’t seem like enough to get Syndergaard. It’s basically Mateo (whose stock is lower than it used to be) and a few lottery tickets, which doesn’t seem like enough.
Realmuto would be an incredible fit for them, but I think they’d be better off giving Murphy a chance to be their future catcher than to get rid of him, Luzardo, and Barreto for a more immediate catching upgrade. That seems like a fairly reasonable proposal for Realmuto (maybe they’d even have to offer more though since he somehow keeps upping his value), but I think they could use their resources better and either keep those guys or move them for more starting pitching.

No. They are both troublesome trades but they arent giving away Luzardo, Barretto and Murphy.
