The White Sox have outrighted right-handed reliever Gregory Infante, per a club announcement. It seems he’ll remain at Triple-A after clearing waivers.
Infante, 30, gave the South Siders 54 2/3 innings of 3.13 ERA pitching, with 8.1 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9, in 2017. That was rather unexpected, given that six seasons had elapsed between his first, brief stint in the majors and his return last year.
Unfortunately, that nice story has not continued into the current campaign. Infante was knocked around in nine MLB innings before being optioned to Charlotte, where he surrendered 14 earned runs in his 18 innings of action.

Juan Minaya should be away from the team too he’s worse

Yup. So many better options like Ian Hamilton. I’d take Tyler Danish over what Minaya and Infante had done this year.

Simply outrighting Gregory Infante off of the 40-man roster is enough satisfaction for most White Sox fans. However, this does free up a spot in which to add another player. We’d have all loved it to be Michael Kopech a few weeks ago but he has struggled mightily with his command since and clearly needs to correct this at AAA Charlotte before earning a promotion.
Most of us would also love to see Eloy Jimenez make the jump from AA Birmingham later this month when there is more certainty regarding his super two status but he is already on the 40-man roster. Perhaps the spot will be freed up to add a pitcher like Jordan Stephens from AAA or even a more elite arm like Dane Dunning from AA who possesses excellent control and could probably make a seamless jump to the South Side. My guess is that the spot will most likely go to a less significant waiver claim or maybe to veteran reliever Jeanmar Gomez who is pitching very well at Charlotte.
Avisail Garcia should also be activated within the week after being evaluated on Sunday as he continues his rehab assignment at Charlotte. Even though he has missed nearly two months due to a hamstring injury, the White Sox never moved him to the 60-day disabled list so he’s also currently on the 40-man reserve roster and not in need of the spot.
