The Dodgers have claimed left-hander P.J. Conlon off waivers from the Mets; the club announced the move. Conlon will be assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, and left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu has been transferred to the 60-day DL in order to make room on the 40-man roster.
Conlon hasn’t exactly impressed in his first taste of big league action; he’s allowed seven earned runs in his first two big league starts spanning just 5 2/3 innings. The Mets apparently didn’t need to see much more, as they designated him for assignment on Thursday in order to clear room to add a pair of right-handers to the roster. Juan Lagares was also transferred to the 60-day disabled list at that time.
Even in Triple-A last season, Conlon pitched to a whopping 6.58 ERA in 39 2/3 innings spanning eight starts. A mid-round pick of the Mets back in 2015, Conlon rocketed up the minor league ladder to make his MLB debut while spending no more than one year at each level of the minors. It’s almost curious that the Mets gave up on Conlon without ever giving him more than ten starts above the Double-A level, particularly given his serviceable results at Double-A in 2017.
The Dodgers have some rotation issues of their own, and Conlon could provide some decent minor-league depth. After all, they just learned they’ll be without fellow lefty Clayton Kershaw for another month (though obviously Conlon wouldn’t be much of a consolation prize in that regard).

Let me guess, organizational depth..blah blah, low risk young guy with potential…blah blah.
Phillies2017
Knowing the Dodgers, they’re gonna try to send him through based on the fact that he’s under team control through 2015.
Element3
2015 already passed !
Phillies2017
lol, my bad, I meant he was drafted in 2015 and he was under team control through 2022.

Whew, that’s reassuring. Thought maybe I’d missed something.

Really? How astute !

Teams claim young/controllable players all the time. Conlon wasn’t bad in the minors until he pitched in the PCL. He clearly wasn’t ready for a call up but the Mets’ injuries led to him coming up. Give him more time in AAA with a different pitching coach and he might turn things around.

one more mets mistake… mets keep blaming pitcher for the down fall . the main problem is lack of hitting outside of nimmo and Cabrera there is no consistent hitting. including michael strikeout conforto. and mr dl bench warmer cespedes..
callingoutdummies247
Yup 7 ER in less than 6 innings is definitely a hitting issue. You must smoke some good stuff
sluman46953
yes sir i do.. but the point is what has any hitter did .. this kid simply isnt the blame .. most mets hitters are under a 250 batting average ..compare that to elite team im major market most of there hitters around 270 +…conforto is a new york god but minus side of 240… cespedes is new york god hasn’t played in a year and half.. but all im saying this kid has not caused the mets to be below .500 when they were 12 and 2…
restingmitchface
Batting average…hmmm…
sluman46953
i guess degrom is the reason the mets are losing tonight.. he only done 6 inning 1 run 11 strikeouts.. ooo yea did i mention the mets have 1 hit …. i rest my case. so what is you reply now .. trade or cut degrom ?
restingmitchface
1. Pointing to a single game to make a point about one-third of a season is ridiculous.
2. Batting average is dumb. I can’t believe there are still people who cite it meaningfully. Case in point: the Washington Nationals have the third best record in the NL (currently five games ahead of your Mets) and yet they’ve got the eighth worst BA in the majors.
3. I agree that DeGrom is incredible. And actually, given the horrific state of the Mets’ farm system, a deadline trade isn’t the worst idea ever — regardless of how unlikely it is.
sluman46953
what would you like me to use to point out the mets batting is there problem . not a kid who pitched 6 innings in the major leauge
sluman46953
also its not a one night thing its nearly everynight.. or at least 7 out of 10 games.
sluman46953
also tonight mets pitching 24 strikeouts in 13 inning and mets hitting 5 hits thru 13 innings… if the mets lose tonight how can i blame any pitcher. even if the next one gives up 10 runs in the 14th inning… ????
sluman46953
well i was close cubbs only got 6 runs in the top of the 14 th inning. now look at this… cubs 7 runs 17 hits mets 1 run 6 hits in bottom of 14th inning
sluman46953
mets will catch the marlins real soon unless they start hitting .. they are already worst then tampa bay and there very cheap player pay scale.. and even tho im a met fan . i live in florida.. its awful the mets stink this bad..at what a 150 million payroll.. there farm teams maybe bad. but thats cause they gotta keepplaying for bums who spend months on dl. cespedes isnt worth the money he gets. move the lineup … nimmo.. amed..caberra.. then anyone 4 to 8 and pitcher at 9.
sluman46953
i guess you guy who say batting average dont count in new age baseball.are 100 % right .. bottom line is mets pitching stink… after all the mets 4 gam
e series vs the cubs amounted to this 6 runs on 20 hits. they should of won all 4 games with 2 runs to spare…
justin-turner overdrive
I think the Dodgers just want to have the most different countries represented lol
