The Astros have designated backstop Tim Federowicz for assignment, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic tweets. That move will allow the team to activate fellow receiver Brian McCann from the DL.
Federowicz did not see much game action during his brief stint in the majors, striding to bat only seven teams. He has seen time in seven MLB seasons, but only once has taken more than 78 plate appearances. Federowicz had been hitting quite well at Triple-A, though, with a .337/.407/.584 slash in his 113 plate appearances.

Have to give Fed-X credit for hanging in there all these years. 1st he was behind lavarnway when boston had those 4 catchers in the minors at the same time.. Lava, Dan Butler, Vazquez and himself, then he caught a break and got dealt away early on.
He’s one of those guys who will hit AAA pitching, then struggle at the big time and play good defense for probably several more years.

He may not have hit well in his second game but there were quite a few balls in the dirt yet no wild pitches or passed balls. Thank you Tim for your service.

Met him in spring training while he was with the dodgers. Super nice guy, I washed him walk up the entire left field line (home to outfield) and sign autographs. I
Always thought his defense, and how he handled his pitchers was spot on. Saw him a few times in vegas (playing AAA), good dude.

He’ll find another job, or go back to AAA with the Astros to continue coming to the park each day and getting paid for it..something we all wish(ed) for

.337 in AAA will make a good side piece to whatever trade they pull the trigger for this summer
