The Orioles announced that they have outrighted Renato Nunez to Triple-A after he cleared waivers. The Baltimore organization had just claimed Nunez itself.
With the series of moves, the O’s will gain control over Nunez without occupying a 40-man roster spot. Though he does not really fit well on the current roster, it’s certainly possible that Nunez could get a look in the majors if the Orioles undertake some summer trades.

Lucky them to slip him through outright waivers. Nuñez is still plenty young to develop into a more complete player. And the Orioles are a perfect organization for his skill set.

Doesn’t seem right a team can claim someone then outright them right away without activating them first.

He was again exposed to waivers. If no one else wants you in the bigs you have to go somewhere.

Minor league infield depth. Sardinas and vielma are out long term. Nunez can fill in at AAA at 3rd. Not a prospect in our AAA infield. He’s already the most interesting infielder we have down there.

Never heard of Ryan Mountcastle?

Does he play AAA baseball now? He probably won’t be a 3rd baseman for long anyway.

I’ll never understand why they’re okay with giving these Latin guys their 500 thousand dollar salaries but they won’t give Latin prospects with higher upside any contracts

Awhile. He’s outrighted. No reason to think he’d get released at any point.
