Adolfo is a really interesting player. I think he often gets overlooked because of how long he has been in the system in addition to the pieces the White Sox have recently added, but he’s still very young and has a ton of raw talent. It’s crazy to think that when they signed him as a 16 year old out of the Dominican in 2013, he was the #2 international prospect – #1 being Eloy and #3 being Devers.
His biggest problem – in addition to the strikeouts – has been poor luck with injuries throughout his entire career. Personally, I’m still not sold he’ll ever hit enough to take advantage of his huge raw power, but he has absolutely raked against High-A pitching so far this year. And perhaps unsurprisingly, he’s doing it while dealing with a potentially serious injury again. He has been limited to DH all year because of two tears in the ligaments in his right elbow. Apparently the doctors said that as long as he didn’t feel any pain while swinging a bat, he wouldn’t be doing any further damage to his elbow. Hopefully nothing goes wrong and it ends up healing itself over the season (apparently it’s a possibility), because if it doesn’t, he’s looking at an 8-9 month absence, which could be a huge blow to his development.
