7:17PM: Manager Scott Servais doesn’t believe Gordon will be out of action for too long, he told the Seattle Times’ Ryan Divish and other media. “With his feet being such a big part of his game, we thought it was the best thing to do to let it calm down. It’s not going to completely heal in nine or 10 days, but certainly calm down enough to hopefully we can get him back sooner than later,” Servais said.
12:51PM: The Mariners announced today that outfielder/infielder Dee Gordon has been placed on the 10-day DL with a fractured big toe. He’ll be replaced on the active roster for the time being by first baseman Dan Vogelbach.
Just how long Gordon will be out is not yet known. The club says that he suffered the injury on May 9th and then reinjured it on Sunday.
This is the latest bit of unwelcome news for a Seattle organization that had just been forced into some juggling to account for an injury to and subsequent suspension of Robinson Cano. The loss of Cano had pushed the team to move Gordon back to second base.
Without Cano and Gordon, it seems the Mariners will need to roll with a combination of Gordon Beckham and Andrew Romine at second. That’s not exactly a compelling duo, though they will need to hold down the fort for a while. MLBTR’s Steve Adams recently looked at the possible options outside the organization at the second-base position, but any significant trades likely won’t come together in the near future.
Cano’s revenge…
Dipoto and Dayton Moore have made a few trades before….maybe Merrifield to the M’s for a gaggle of prospects. Not sure if the Mariners have enough on the farm that would get them Merrifield. Pretty sure the Royals think very highly of Merrifield.
The M’s do not have any good prospects, they have easily the worst farm in MLB and literally nothing to offer. They are just going to have to hit the scrap heap and pray some AAAA guy pops off for a couple weeks for them. They have ZERO prospect firepower, no one cares about Kyle Lewis or Evan White.
Have you seen the Mets system? ( )
Yes, it’s way better – I’d take Pete Alonso over anyone on Seattle’s farm.
I get your overall point but Lewis is #42 on Keith Laws Top 100 prospects list. There’s someone who cares about Lewis, and outside of Evan White- there’s tumbleweeds blowing thru that farm system
Pete’s promise will be diluted by front office incompetence and soon he will be a former prospect.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to swing a trade with the Cardinals for Kolten Wong. 3 years remaining on a friendly contract and it just might be time for a change of scenery for him.
i’d feel bad if it was a nicer guy who didnt use PEDs
Well that’s mean. PED suspension or not, wishing injury on a guy is pretty low. And Gordon seems to be a pretty popular guy around baseball FWIW
i just said i dont feel bad, not that i wished and hoped and prayed every day for this to happen.
I dunno, I kind of wish Josh Lueke would get his arms amputated.
Why do you care if he did or not?? How exactly did it personally affect you??
It’s affected everyone here for whatever reason – or no one would be here talking about it.
Daaaamn can’t catch a break
They did catch a break right on Gordon’s toe
Oaklands playoff chances caught a huge break too 🙂
scooters price tag just keeps going up!
lol dumb
Other teams have 2nd basemen surpluses
Regardless of if there are other teams with a “surplus” of 2nd basemen when a team is more in need they will be more desperate and yes the price tag could increase. Not to mention what other surplus of 2nd basement are as good as Scooter?
Not to mention the Mariners have the worst farm in baseball with nothing to offer. No one cares about Kyle Lewis.
No one cares about you and your stupid opinion.
$&@%
Karma hitting team cheat….
The Astros?
oh no. that team would be Team Champs.
@jeremytk42 if the m’s are “team cheat” then why haven’t we been to the playoffs in 16+ seasons? Sure doing a great job of cheating. And honestly no one really has s$&@ on Cano. Still don’t know if he was covering up PEDs or not. There’s actually no information about it. Pure speculation. So take your cheap shot and shove it somewhere. Mariner fans have suffered longer than Pirates fans have. Must be nice to be able to purchased your team. The mariners have a depleted farm because of crap GMs. Trader Jerry hasn’t done us many favors there, but maybe he’s trying to develop the talent that’s there already and maybe he’s made some damn good trades.
Why else would he be taking a masking agent ?
If the Mariners will pick up the contract, Starlin Castro is there for the taking.
With all the injuries and misfortune this team endures on a regular basis, they’ll be able to find Castro full time ABs even after Cano returns.
Even when things go right for us, they also go bad.
Nelson to LF? Healy to 3rd? Corey’s brother to 2nd while Vogey plays 1B? Interesting…..IMO we’ll miss Dee in the lineup more than Cano
We would have the worst defense in baseball if that happened. Not worth it to get Vogelbachs bat in the lineup
I’m mystified by the call up, I thought they’d call up Werth or Ian Miller but Vogey? I don’t get it? He is raking, I get that and It would be be the worst defense in baseball for just two weeks. 😉
Justin’s brother could play second. Idk a Corey’s Brother
Scooter Gennett and Adam Duvall to the Mariners
Kyle Lewis, Evan White, PTBNL to Reds
No lol
No from which side?
Reds maybe?
Why not? They picked up those guys for practically nothing, and would be adding to really good prospects.
By the way thanks for answering without just a condescending…lol.
*two really good prospects.
By the way they’re not part of the Reds future.
So your logic is: picking up players for nothing who turn into quality regulars means the team isn’t looking for a big return on them because they got them for nothing? When has that EVER been true????
Give up, Seattle’s prospects are trash and they couldn’t afford either of those two by themselves, let alone together.
Sounds like something Jerry would do to me. Might as well trade our last remaining solid prospects now so we don’t have to worry about what crummy veterans they will eventually be traded for at the deadline or next off-season.
How much would it be to get Brock Holt?
As much as Holt’s name has been thrown around here? I don’t see him being moved with him able to play 6 positions fairly well and able to save a roster spot for either an extra IF/OF that way. Possibly Nunez, but not Holt unless it’s an overpay.
“Hey, you wanna play second base for Seattle?”
“NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!”
You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don’t wanna know about it, believe me. Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o’clock this afternoon… with nail polish.”
HahHhahhahabbab
Finishin’ my coffee…
Wonder how excited a 2b might be to get traded to the Mariners to start at 2b right now. Karma not good in the middle infield in Seattle right now……
Ah, one of the best lineups in the majors. Playing next to a SS who leads the majors in hits (22) and RBIs (29) w RISP? I’d think a 2B would be happy to be a part of this lineup/team
Adam jones. And cole hamels. Both will come decently cheap. Infield depth can cover a few weeks.
Schoop and Jones to the Mariners for their minor league system. How about expanding it to send Davis to the Mariners for Cano.
Hmmmm… that brings up a question. Are clubs allowed to trade a suspended player?
Ughhhh Vogelbach….The guy is a triple A player would never met a burger he didn’t like…
Seems like this would be the perfect time to finally bring up Tyler O’Neil…..oh….um….wait….
Oh… um… wait… he was traded for a SP who currently has the 2nd best ERA and WHIP on your rotation. 😉 Can’t count LeBlanc who’s a spot-starter w SSS
I’ll still take O’Neil in that trade every time! He’s taking in the majors
Raking in the majors ! LoL! He looks really good at the plate right now
The Yankees have Neil Walker, Tyler Wade and Brandon Drury available. anyone of them would be better alternatives
Yankees aren’t trading Wade or Drury, and Walker has to approve a trade.
I disagree on the Wade part. Assuming Andujar stays, Drury will become that super utility guy moving forward, so Wade is blocked and pretty much finished in the eyes of the Yankees. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him dealt at the deadline.
It’s way to early to judge anything.
First 100 AB doesn’t even have an OPS of .400. Since then Andujar, Drury, and Torres have all passed him on the IF depth chart. Barring a serious injury, he’s done as a Yankee.
Good thing you don’t follow them.
I don’t think that’s accurate. Walker signed a 1 year $4 MM deal. There was no “no trade clause” included in that.
There wasn’t, but since he signed as a free agent he can’t be traded until June 15thish without his permission. It’s a provision for all FA signings.
Maybe Cano can offer Gordon some medical advice
Brewers can help you with this situation very easily with a trade for Keon Broxton and Nate Orf and I’m sure you have something in your organization we can use .
I love how people in this thread are acting like Seattle actually has worthwhile prospects to trade for quality players – they don’t.
Oakland lookin really good to scoop up a wild card now, just as I predicted.
Please, A’s lineup is trash and they will fade to the cellar soon with the Rangers. Manaea’s been absolutely terrible his last 4 starts. They have zero shot at the wildcard.
The A’s have the 4th best team OPS+ in MLB, stop talking.
The team is run like their stadium, a complete dump. Maybe when the move up to Portland they will stop being a development team for the rest of MLB.
Doesn’t matter how much you score if you can’t keep the opposing team from scoring.
I am going to laugh when the M’s take another series from the A’s the next 3 days..
There’s 1 game!
4th best, want a participation award. I just saw the A’s schedule to date, and to term it soft would be generous. BTW their a pathetic 9-18 in the division. Perspective.
*they’re
And their BP is (sneaky) filthy- Trivino, Treinen, even Petit has owned the Ms. And just wait until Emilio Pagan sorts things out. They’re a dangerous team- that’s coming from an Ms fan
justin-turner why are you obsessing over the Mariners’ farm system? Do you have ties to the area? It seems as though you’re an A’s fan, plus you have a Dodger player user name…. so it doesn’t look like you are an M’s fan, so what’s your obsession?
Machado would help immensely
So now the Mariners need a 2B and a CF. The Padres have Jose Pirela and Travis Jankowski available, and they’ll throw Kazuhisa Makita in to sweeten the pot!
M’s seriously need to consider trading for either Joey Wendle or Daniel Robertson.
Didn’t we trade away Daniel Robertson? Or is he different from the DR that played for the Ms?
Skinniest player to ever got popped for steroids. Gotta love it
What are you talking about Gordon didn’t get busted for PEDs Cano did. It wasn’t actually PEDs it was a diuretic which is a masking agent. Keep up or sit on the sidelines and hush.
Yes, Gordon had an 80 game suspension for banned substance two or three seasons ago.
Neil Walker will be in Seattle within 2 weeks
i would rather wait it out for Gordon to come back than trade more. it’s just too reactionary.
Exactly. Beckham might not be able to hit, but his defense is adequate. Other guys can hit.
Yeah but M’s can go out and get Phillips cheap, who can hit. Not sure why they’re not pursuing this…
It would take the same time to get Phillips game ready that it would take for Gordon to return.
Great point
